Weyland-Yutani gets around

2 thoughts first how the fuck does a laser bow string make any sense like at all. 2 the writers REALLY liked hell boy

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Sure, why the hell not?

They improved the CGI of the predator's face for this trailer, glad to see it. Trachtenberg loves the whole mythos, so I'm excited to see what this is like

8 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Unfortunately, I'm at a point where I can't get excited at all for any movie releases of beloved franchises anymore. All I see is "great, another cash grab, let's see how bad they fuck it up this time".

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

From the people who brought you Prey, the best Predator next to Predator itself. Hell yeah I'm all in

8 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

I just started rewatching Umbrella Academy and the way the mother charges is identical to this.

This is kinda like a Mad Max: Fury Road version of Predator IMO. Well, without the car chase, but just as metal and *mad*

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Wait, in theaters??? Really? This old man doesn't have to yell at a cloud today!

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What is the logo behind her?

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Weyland-Yutani logo

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I love Elle Fanning!

8 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Ah that's who she is. Was awesome in The Great.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't really care for humanizing the Predators. I get they are technically humanoids, but I don't feel right seeing them as personable to this extent. I'll still see it, though.

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

all these Predator movies, they need a new AVP

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Take a close look.

Wayland-Yutani shows up. And the loader scene at the end.

They 100% setting up shop for an AvP.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She seems nice

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I hope it's good.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I haven’t kept up with the Predator franchise but is this the first time The Company (Weyland Yutani) has appeared in a Predator film since the two AVP movies?

I mean, the two universes were always super compatible; The Alien Versus Predator title comes from books that were written . . . early 90's, I think?

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Why does the predator look more human like and red?

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

He's young.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They dropped many of the details around the face and head. Essentially they got lazy with the design. Kinda sad. I don't mind it being red, they have always had a variety of skin tones, I just wish it had more pattern to it.

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

There's an Independence Day alien skull on the trophy wall. This raises so many questions.

8 months ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

Quentin Tarantino when the female lead doesn't have any feet.

8 months ago | Likes 140 Dislikes 2

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well the actress has a lot of feet on the new game.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Although… that means the feet are available elsewhere…

8 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Ok, you've moved into a lonely section of the kink Venn diagram. You might say it seems dead there. [distant moaning]

8 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 14

Nice retort :D

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I didn't know it had come out, so it was neat to see and didn't include all the dumb adcopy that comes along with the actual ads

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Some of the creature design seems a bit lazy. The tentacle plant I like, but the flier is just a pterosaur, and the "boss monster" is kind of just a big, vaguely cat-like... thing?

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

yeah. One issue with today's expected CGI fidelity is that for full fantasy creatures, they basically have to develop full fantasy physiology with all muscles, sinew etc. So often they got the easier way of just copying actual real animals instead. Like the diamond shaped Mulefa from the HDM books. Just became an elephant/tapir mix in the BBC show because that was feasible in the budget/timeframe

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Copying the motion isn't a problem. But you do have to develop a compelling and interesting creature around that mechanical profile. Which I don't see out of the boss monster.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This reminds me, I still need to watch Prey.

8 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Best one since the original for sure. It's a very fun movie

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Then watch "Killer of killers", Great Movie

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Watched that one already. Great flick. I also love animated films.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

oh then Prey will actually be better, I think.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm not so cool with how much they're humanising and anthropomorphising the new Predator.

8 months ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 6

Don't really see how this Yautja is any more anthropomorphic than the ones that came before but ok chief

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 10

The head shape is just completely human with the exception of the mouth bits obviously, as opposed to previous designs where is was decidedly nonhuman. Obviously they were always anthropomorphic with them being bipedal and having eyes and a mouth in approximately the same location a human would have them, but the changed skull shape was enough to make it register as "alien" in my head, whereas this one registers more as "guy with weird mask".

8 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 5

There's that fucken word too. Yautja is such a dumb, pop-scifi name that bears no resemblance to the vocalisations of the original Predators, ie. more anthropomorphisation. It's got a rounder head, smoother skin, less-pronounced mouthparts, human-like hairstyle, shallower, more expressive eyes. It's a sanrio predator.

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 10

Wrong on literally every detail except for the hairstyle which the Yautja has always had ( unless your too stupid to think the predators hairstyle isn't inspired by dreadlocks) and the eyes which I'll give you

Other than that quite a bit staw-grasping

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 9

Even though they look like dreadlocks but aren't, I'm not talking about that - I'm talking about how they come off the front of his scalp like he's straight out of the Vikings TV show, rather than from the underside of his cranial crest - which coincidentally he also doesn't have because of the rounder, human-like head. You know, this whole section:

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Fucking thank you. I knew that something was off about the general silhouette but I just couldn't place it.

And yes. Looking at this side by side of all the previous designs, this new one is clearly more anthropomorphized. The head shape is just a humans with the fact bits. Everything else about them is gone.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Oh, that looks interesting!

8 months ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 6

I think Prey was really good and this is by the same people so I'm definitely interested.

8 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

The Predator: Killer of Killers was also fun!

If you are a WW2 history nerd though, you might want to deactivate that part of brain. Although it was nice to USS Ranger (CV-4) get some love for a change.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah! I still need to watch it but I LOVE the animation style from the trailer. It's like an oil painting come to life. My dad is the WW2 nerd, I'm the animal nerd, lol.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh it does.. Cyborg backpack watching ones back sounds useful.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is this a connection back to the alien franchise?? I know with Prometheus they retconned the AVP movies because it set fhe creation of aliens to be farther in the future than the previous movies had set

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Seems like they are ignoring Prometheus, I feel I saw an alien head in the trophies...

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fairly certain that's the Weyland-Yutani symbol behind her head at the beginning.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And in her eyes...

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The on screen text as she reboots shows the AI is MU/TH/UR and is part of Weyland-Yutani Bio-Weapons Division.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh ya!

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not a fan of these more human-like predators. They look like they could be in a star trek uniform talking politics in the next scene.

8 months ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 4

Good. They're not a uniform species and are advanced enough to be considered for the Federation, hell, they'd decline and give the federation a serious fight before even considering. I didn't like the new Klingons, but art should make you uncomfortable, art of alien species should make you feel uncomfortable in exactly that way, that they're not quite right.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's an episode in Voyager where one of the two aliens of the week, pretty much look like Yauthja

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It’s Star Trek, I assume there’s an episode for everything.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's only one here and his look is part of the plot (he's a young one who was outcast from his clan for being too weak physically)

8 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

Was he outcast or it’s simply his first hunt so it’s either a win or die?

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He was outcast. (See the video description on YouTube)

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ahh ok i saw the “first hunt last chance” thing and made an asumption

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like that they are fleshing out the Aliens and Predator universe, but part of the fun was the incomplete mystery

8 months ago | Likes 261 Dislikes 6

Knowing Americans who can't have anything stay as a mystery and everything needs to be explained it was inevitable. Just like Scott ruined Alien with an explanation and ruining the entire concept horror is built on which is the unknown.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Yup. Americans need to learn the japanese word, "Yugen," and stop being explorers-of-all-things.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Speaking of, with the inclusion of Wryland Yutani, I'm wondering if this one isn't actually a secret AvP movie. Or, at the very least, a set up for a proper one finally. They keep setting them on earth in the modern day, and just...man, the space Marines are right there, and a way better way to insert humans into the mix without them just being fodder straight up. Turns it from, "no shit, they're getting slaughtered" to a resounding, "oh shit, they're getting slaughtered"

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Thought they were going to take a new direction after PREY. Not really world building, just Predators hunting people across time. Lebanon, Iwo jima, Vietnam, Iraq, the trenches of WW1.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They are fleshing them out wrong though. I keep waiting for a Machiko Noguchi AvP movie I'll likely never get. Hollywood doesn't want to take the existing books and comics and create something fans already love. They want to put twists on it that don't make sense to the die hard fans.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I am a huge Alien fan (the good ones at least of which I'll definitely include Romulus which was the best movie hands down since Aliens) but goddamn the lore has ruined the universe. Aliens made by David? The dumbest woman in Alien history being experimented on (Noomi made every single mistake POSSIBLE including fucking her unquarantined partner RAWDOG!) by him? The Creators... It's just stupid. The mystery was what made it fantastic! Your mind ran wild. Too much exposition has ruined the myster

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I truly hope they don't touch Ex Machina.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And some of the paths have just been stupid. "Predators hunt to add different species genes to themselves." No. You're wrong. That's what Xenomorphs do. Predators hunt because that's fucking cool enough.

8 months ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

Was probably a Bad-blood.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea. Like, the hunt could have been something they did to gain social standing or a rite of passage of some kind. They could be like British colonizers who hunted "for science". Something that plays on their warrior culture which was featured heavily in the OG movies.

Literally anything would be better than making them knock-off "xenonorphs but intelligent".

Like, the whole thing that made AvP cool is just how diametrically opposed Predators were from the Aliens in their strengths.

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

One day, we'll get a movie that shows us Predator society and it turns out the hunters were just overpaid dentists on vacation.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's exactly why they hunt in the true lore from way back in the days of Dark Horse comics. Hunting is entirely for social standing.

8 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Hey look, we've really been waiting to take a good look at the planet that spawned these intergalactic sport hunters, and I'm loving this clip's energy so far.

Did Prometheus kill your enjoyment of Alien? Actually, maybe that's a bad example...

8 months ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

I love prometheus for the lore. I hated it for the players. Same with covenant. The characters were pointless npcs making bad decisions constantly.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What people sometimes forget is that Xenomorph fans already survived Alien 3 (underrated) and Alien Resurrection (fun movie that just shouldn't have been Alien-branded, should have been more like a tribute/parody). And since Prometheus we've had Covenant and Romulus. Prometheus barely registers anymore.

8 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Just as people did not like avp i enjoyed them. Sure i got a awkward view from someones camera and could not hear everything. But it was still enjoyable

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe I'm crazy but Romulus might be my favorite of the modern (post resurrection) alien movies. It's actually a good nod to the original with a unique twist. I like that it doesn't read necessarily like an alien movie.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It killed my enthusiasm to see any more of them. Prometheus was a supremely aggravating movie.

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Romulus will bring it back. In fact, based on the trailer, you won’t be able to guess what THE creepiest thing of the movie was.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can't explore without exploring. The trick is to have every answer provide more questions.

8 months ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 3

Ok JJ Abrams

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Like how Promethius did it with the goo

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

True but the trick is too many questions will turn your story into a bloated incoherent mess see Five Nights at Freddy's, Kingdom Hearts, etc.

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Pace your answering of questions and your opening of new ones. Keep them aligned in theme, and expand laterally into unexplored facets, rather than trying to keep going bigger.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But why?

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Why what? Why explore an interesting world? Why open new questions? The answers to those are 'because I want to' and 'to keep it from growing stale as we explore it.'

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

What do you mean?

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Only what I said. But if you can clarify the question, I'll tell further.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As long as the questions are more compelling than "but why is the Predator red?"

8 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Racism!

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

So they could call him the Red-ator ;^)

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Questions like ‘is pee stored in the balls?’

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, hopefully. But Prey was satisfying, and my understanding is that the director loves the whole mythos, so I'm hopeful.

8 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Watch the new animated anthology film. I’m interested in what they’re doing. Especially with cameos.

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Ooo, I wasn't aware of that. I'll have to take a look.
