when google search was actually good.

I literally turned to BING yesterday to look up something about path of exile after 4 failed searches on Google including going to page 2. I was like I guess nobody is looking for this?! Or maybe just maybe Google is screwing me? Google was screwing me.
Literally entire pages of answers to my question on BING immediately... Never knew I could be instilled with such a sense of disappointment from "Google is a failed search engine I guess I need to try BING as a backup".

#5 - An important distinction needs to be made between someone that "wants" a hierarchical world, and those who "are comfortable and lack means to picture a similar or superior alternative."
Most of them will be resigned to "that's just the way things work." It's not that they like the system, or want it to continue, they just can't imagine anything else - possibly even because they've seen the alternative fail horribly.
Anyway, our next topic is the propagandized use of Communism...
Navrodel
A better education - and a willingness to engage in it - helps deal with a person's inability to understand how the systems around them function and came to be. Further education can even allow them to understand alternates, and even the challenges that they face, to give a person a realistic understanding of how to reach such utopian goals.
Anyway, I also have this essay titled "The past 80 years of media has elevated athletes and denigrated nerds," but I'm sure that's off topic...

#30 And if it’s the Abrahamic god, the Old Testament talks about many other gods that used to be your God’s peers. Including a story of God losing a war to one of them (Chemosh, god of the Moabites) in one of the few Bible stories we have an independent archaeological source for (Mesha Stele).

#3 My only nitpick with this whole post: the Phoenix arson is thought not to be politically motivated. He *wanted* to be arrested and thought this would be a low-stakes crime w/o knowing ballots were in there.
He does have a track record, including drug use and aggravated assault when he tried to grab an officer's gun. He had a current warrant
He was also very likely homeless (all I can find are guesses), which causes/worsens drugs use & mental illness. He wanted a roof & food. Prison has that
MirroredImage
The impulse is there to poke fun at a perceived fascist who DID do political damage. In reality....you're probably mocking a desperate, homeless guy.

But how ever will we find a real fascist to make fun of? Oh, wait…

#19 Shouldnt that kid be in the back seat? My son would love love it if his safety chair was up front.
GeneralDisorder
There might not be a back seat. I can't tell what vehicle it is though.
Leaps
Well the driver definitely should not be holding his phone and filming...
METROlD
Look at the kids eyes. He is looking straight ahead. If he were in the back seat he wouldnt be able to see the road like that.
Leaps
Yes, I wasn't disagreeing with you, just noting another safety problem with the video.
If a car does not have a back seat, kids are allowed to sit in the front with an appropriate car seat, at least in the U.S.

We all die alone. Unless you're in like a plane crash or something, though I wager that doesn't make it any better for those about to die.
idownvoteplottwist
yes, i love people being pedantic when people use a turn of phrase. well actually, keep going
idownvoteplottwist
people saying "dying alone" aren't talking about literally the last 6 hours before death, they're referring to the decades-long process of living day to day alone
SoftKleenex
Even if you died in a plane crash each person's death is experienced individually, there's no team play when it comes to dying

Thank you! The Republicans have done a great job the past forty years rebranding "politics" into cultural issues because they know their actual political stances cannot win. Politics and morals are two different things.

I remember years ago I did a charity event to help Syrian refugees and one of my YouTube followers said he was unfollowing me over it. I was flabbergasted. I thought a political issue would be "should the government spend money helping Syrians" not "should the Syrians be helped by anyone ever"
Pikkupanda
What the hell.
MylundTheMad
Regrettably, the issues on the right still count as political issues.
A whole different level of importance, to be sure, but people still make policies based on their own answers to those questions.
DukeDarkwood
This, @Illithidbane. When governments are actually using these issues to make their policies, they *have become* "political issues". They SHOULDN'T be; that won't get any argument from me. But, here we are.

1/ Boo Harris? Those of us to the left of center got the outcome pushed by the progressive "uncommitted" protest vote during the primaries - Biden changing his stance on Israel or stepping down. But because the primary votes were already cast, the DNC and Biden's delegates agreed to run Harris because she was already on the ticket. And in a move out of character for the establishment and party leaders in DC, she selected a governor that is a member of...
TimbiquiDarkThirty
... a progressive offshoot of the Democratic party, the Minnesota Democratic Farming and Labor party (DFL) Tim Walz for VP
Codified reproductive and LGBTQ, green energy, infrastructure, public transportation and letting protesters address their grievances without using state police. All things we could've had in the oval office and as President of the Senate.
Nope. Not good enough. We just had to teach the DNC a lesson for ignoring us. The vulnerable will pay for our hubris.
TimbiquiDarkThirty
Representation isn't spontaneous, leftist litmus tests won't get us shit when we act like we're not a minority caucus within what is now the minority party.
Either that or we have to admit we're not as inclusive as we like to advertise and Don't actually want a woman as president
Illithidbane
Protest voting in a PFTP system is the stupidest idea imaginable. Participate in primaries. Write your representatives. Protest in person. But when the general election comes around, vote for the closest person on the ballot to what you want. Throwing it to the opposite direction only moves the country farther from what you want.
TimbiquiDarkThirty
I have a feeling a lot of the people (rightfully) annoyed by the first past the post system would be just as pissed at their representatives when they learn about coalition governing and the comprise that is still required with democracy.
Illithidbane
Then they need to grow up. No, you cannot just get exactly and exclusively what you want every time or else you take your ball and go home.
