#3 I have a customer that asks me to process video from their surveillance systems sometimes. They had an event last year and, not knowing what happened, I automatically logged in and exported video from multiple cameras. I wound up watching an employee get hit by a car in front of the store from multiple angles.
That video triggered me a little. Wow, that was hard to watch.

This is exactly why you do your best to clear out all the ground debris before cutting a tree down... shit goes sideways, the tree falls too soon and not where you intended, or something like that and you'll need a clear path to escape... not only that, exactly what happened in the video could occur, but resulting in impalement...

No, legally the car driver is completely on the hook for that. You can't just throw your car door open without looking to see whats going on around you first.

If he had been on the street side if the car, then yes, the car would be at fault. But that isn't what happened. He was on the sidewalk. The skater would be every bit as liable in this instance as he would be if he crashed into a woman walking a baby carriage. Of course not every city has the same traffic laws.
