When I was younger I had to go to A&E in the US the guy in the room cryed for hours asking for water, my dad got so angry he ...
Pulled a doctor to the side and said give the man water it's been hours, the doctor said sorry I can't he doesn't have insurance.
OMG.
Makes the NHS seem like overkill if you can get away with that in the states
kikiohearts
They do this to old people in the hospital too. My dad is 71 and he has dialysis 4 times a week. Hes still very much there in the head. >>
Hes hooked up to a machine cycling his fluids and it beeps... loudly to say hes done. After 10 minutes my dad called a nurse. >>
she said she would get someone. He had to wait an hour and a half for someone to unhook him. All the while the machine was beeping.
PirateRubberDuck
You can't legally charge for tap water in the UK anywhere and in the US a doctor will let a man suffer due to lack of insurance? WTF!
Our national motto is, "I got mine, fuck off?"Applys to healthcare, education, living wage, hunger....the list goes on

Or the dad could use to get a dude some water. We aren't that heartless. This is an asshole with an agenda.

SuperIncoherentRantingMan
They won't unless you can push them to do it. Otherwise they'll send bills and collect whatever they can.

Not always. The one I went to did not, I made just above poverty. They offered me $360mo payment plan or go get a private loan. That's it.
They refused to work with me at all, even after multiple times of stating I cannot pay what they are asking. Its in collections now.

Dancepartyinmyhead
If you have cancer you can come through the ED and get some treatment for symptoms but without a couple hundred thousand dollars you 3/4
Dancepartyinmyhead
Won't be getting anywhere near real cancer treatments. 4/4
Ansatsunin
Did you even listen to anything the man said?
joeyecho101
I did, and he is incorrect. Source: 10 years direct patient care, 7 years hospital admin.
Ansatsunin
Then all should yield to your experience. Is this something nation-wide? Or would this be something that perhaps works the way you 1/?
Ansatsunin
describe in your state, while working differently elsewhere? 2/2
joeyecho101
Certainly state specific. And nobody needs to yield to anything man. Chill out.
laurenfirefairy
You don't actually have to pay the bill.
ANOMNOMNOM
This does make borrowing OTHER money a lot more difficult though. You know, car, house, credit cards.
BullfrogStormcroak
It really doesn't. Medical bills can't go on your trw.
InsomniaOlympic
What is trw?
BullfrogStormcroak
Your credit report
ANOMNOMNOM
They get sold to collectors tho. They don't preclude you from borrowing, but do lower your score, and other debts often come along with it.
yy0b
The medicals bills might not, but when the hospital sells the debt to a collections agency they can report
BullfrogStormcroak
But usually won't. Also, all you have to do is not answer you phone to unknown numbers and they're fucked.
ahhhhtomzilla
But at least you get to live! Just terribly!
kodiak931155
Jokes on you sucker! Im living terribly without any medical debt!!!

Don't quit your day job. Stand-up isn't your forte, ya fukkin clown.
laurenfirefairy
Yay tuition debt!
ButterfaceTaintClown
yeah, but that would also be true if you didn't have cancer and lived in poverty.
Kamba00
When I was younger I had to go to A&E in the US the guy in the room cryed for hours asking for water, my dad got so angry he ...
Kamba00
Pulled a doctor to the side and said give the man water it's been hours, the doctor said sorry I can't he doesn't have insurance.
sciencenf10
OMG.
Kamba00
Makes the NHS seem like overkill if you can get away with that in the states
kikiohearts
They do this to old people in the hospital too. My dad is 71 and he has dialysis 4 times a week. Hes still very much there in the head. >>
kikiohearts
Hes hooked up to a machine cycling his fluids and it beeps... loudly to say hes done. After 10 minutes my dad called a nurse. >>
kikiohearts
she said she would get someone. He had to wait an hour and a half for someone to unhook him. All the while the machine was beeping.
PirateRubberDuck
You can't legally charge for tap water in the UK anywhere and in the US a doctor will let a man suffer due to lack of insurance? WTF!
dunlapk33331415
Our national motto is, "I got mine, fuck off?"Applys to healthcare, education, living wage, hunger....the list goes on
TrynaHelp
They've really got this 'human society' thing sorted out sooooo well in America
unclefisty
Yes, because NOTHING ON THE INTERNET IS EVER A LIE. Promise!
1maGoh12
Fwiw, I call bullshit. They don't charge for water in any US hospital I've been in. There's usually a vending machine the doctor 1/2
1maGoh12
Or the dad could use to get a dude some water. We aren't that heartless. This is an asshole with an agenda.
thatguywhohasnoname
No what he's saying is they will forgive the bill
SuperIncoherentRantingMan
They won't unless you can push them to do it. Otherwise they'll send bills and collect whatever they can.
GrumpyOldMillennial
Not always. The one I went to did not, I made just above poverty. They offered me $360mo payment plan or go get a private loan. That's it.
GrumpyOldMillennial
They refused to work with me at all, even after multiple times of stating I cannot pay what they are asking. Its in collections now.
Hurtsdo
Often it works that they bill you. You can pre-apply for charity care, be warned that you will receive less treatment options due to it.
Chimichanga007
Never show ID
valvarsson
Or weakness.
gr33narrow
I thought i was having a heart attack, couldn't hold a pen or write and i had to fill out paperwork/give ids and card before treatment.
Chimichanga007
Fake name, fake address
GrumpyOldMillennial
The one I went to wouldn't process paperwork without valid photo ID, social security, and next of kin contact. Period..
jimbobular
How do they know your medical history then???
AgainstMedicalAdvice
This works in the ER if you get stabbed. Not for anything else.
valvarsson
Step 1 get stabbed.
Hurtsdo
Not at any hospital I've been at. Your pic is in their system too.
kakari
You've had your photo taken as a patient in A&E/ED?
Chimichanga007
