I'm still boycotting Amazon
Do you think I could get a house on eBay?
CatDickTiny
zeacorzeppelin10
LOL
Whitewolf30
It wouldn't even surprise me if you could buy houses on Amazon
fartharder
You can purchase a house you assemble yourself from Amazon. No cat or human babies... yet,
nonojoejoe
I love how you wrote the baby’s text in a different font. I feel like I can hear the little guys voice!

I think there is a wiki for cnc cut house kits, and amazon is selling something similar now too.
TheFastpaws
I mean we are heading that way.
barbarian818
Well, eBay banned the sale of humans, in whole or part, a long time ago. I don't know if Amazon made the same decision.
MissSiesta
Not amazon. Let's not support the nazi supporters

Search ADU on amazon... totally doable right now.
CityYeti
This is the nicest the kids have ever been
RunawaySpoons
Excellent reaction image (wish I had the skills to put credit on it like some people do)

Also zooming in like this really shows me a lot of detail that otherwise go unnoticed because it all blends in to make such a good picture overall. Love the talent!
LitterboxComics
Honestly I don't mind leaving credits off for reaction images/memes -looks tidier 😉

Seemed appropriate!

Babies coming from Amazon is the logical modernization of babies coming from Kmart. And so the tradition continues.

if this were written today, he'd have said Ikea for most people.... and Temu for Calvin.

At the growth rate of Amazon, I don't think this is unexpected.
alittleglassvial
It’s already real, my area sells tiny houses on amazon
5m4llP0X
Nah, Amazon will let you *rent* a house they own, but none of those corporations are gonna let you own a home.
XEndeadX
Nah, they'll sell you the house part. It's the property they won't sell. If you already have a property to put the house on, sure, but if you don't you gotta rent it.
5m4llP0X
Oh fuck, I really hope they don't do that. That is fucking EVIL. That's shit HOAs might find disgusting.
Here4daCats
This is an old issue in some east coast US cities. Amazon didn't invent that. Look up ground rent baltimore and dc
XEndeadX
What do you mean, that's literally just how it is currently. Renting a house is more like renting land that also comes with a house. Selling a building kit is easy, but a prospective buyer needs land to build said house on. There are enough houses available, at least for now, that I think it is unlikely that a business model of renting land and then selling housing kits to force renters to build up their rented property, much less am I confident on the legality of that, if that is what you mean.
5m4llP0X
See, I read it as "You own the home, so we're not responsible for any maintenance on it! But we own the land, so we're gonna charge you a monthly fee to remain there. If you don't like it, you can have a moving company relocate the home!" The last part being insanely expensive and potentially impossible. Also, I could see them charging you for destroying their land, or "repossessing the home" for non-payment.
wadatahmydamie
Amazon is a cancer that has nearly reached the point of being terminal
justfillingthespace
Amazon is nothing more than a large cyst that is symptomatic of the *real* terminal disease.
wadatahmydamie
They’ve destroyed wages, they’ve killed workers, and Bezos is a staunch Trump backer.
Don’t ayckshualllllly me with this bullshit.
justfillingthespace
Yeah, I know they've done all that stuff, I wasn't disagreeing with you. I was saying that our society's (i.e. capitalism's) addiction to profits is what led to this situation. Why did me saying that piss you off?
wadatahmydamie
Because it came across like you were downplaying their role in what’s happening as a minor annoyance - I disagree that they’re a mere cyst
alittleglassvial
Killed workers?

Used to be able to order houses from Sears so why not?
Eiladar
Yep. I live next door to one of them.
AsianLeprechaun
Plenty of them still around too!
ubnty
Blueprints, and all the parts shipped by rail. You had to get everything from the rail yard to your property, then DIY from there.
Deltethnia
Imagine of Sears went the route of embracing the internet shopping experience like the good old days of catalogue shopping.
HighMagosSquidward
Amazon does in fact sell small houses that would be more or less suitable to put in a back yard. The only stipulation is that you have to provide the foundation and utilities.
sleepinggreenidea
Kids too
AyatollahBahloni
One of my favorites, since I remember the blue-light specials well. It was fun to watch the mad dash of shoppers descend like a flock of vultures on the unhappy wight running the blue-light machine. It was like a mini Black Friday every 30 minutes.
Kotarisu
Still one of the greatest Calvin's Dad's jokes.

This one has to get back to Shivering Isles now, sick leave tomorrow for mental reasons. Its reasonable.
TheCaptnemo
This one built in 1906 I think, is still in use by some relations of mine. https://photos.smugmug.com/Family/Caulkins-2002/i-VSWJwKd/1/K4HThN9Fn6xpTXBCWzMbdzHvZwt924RTqZNLJnsLp/XL/IMAGE001-XL.jpg ordered from sears and delivered by train.
AyatollahBahloni
The sad part is that it would still be in decent shape if it had simply been maintained. Those houses were not trash.
TheCaptnemo
It may not look it in the pic but it really is in fine shape- structurally all the inside wood looks great. Once they cleaned off the leaves and painted it it looks great. Helps that it is on a good foundation and mild climate.
KuroFluff
It looks like putting one of the old Sears catalogues on top would make it collapse.
Maybe we can buy 3D printed houses one day and make things more affordable.
SmoeAhsolse
DarkBusterBaron
What do they use it for cause there's no way anyone actually lives there.
TheCaptnemo
It was storage for a long time but about 10 years after this pic they cleaned it out did some repairs, it's now a sort of Family museum and home office for their business.
MaybeIllDisappear
You can order a house off Amazon actually.
MaybeIllDisappear
I was going to share a link, but just search for prefab houses.
Septcanmat
But can I order one from Wish?
TheLordFoxington
Just steal a shipping container.
PicassoCT
starts at 2000 https://www.alibaba.com/showroom/prefab-house.html
DragoWhooves
yep, prices are between 8k and 96k
Astramancer
Shipping is where they get ya, though.
dtallen243
The other part where they get you is that insurance companies may not cover modular/pre fab homes. 6 months after I bought my house got letter from Progressive stating that they don't cover them and would be dropping me. Then why the fuck did you cover in the 1st place?
DragoWhooves
quite a few have free shipping, though the House DVD boxset does cost for delivery (was looking signed out as didn't want to mess up my reccomendations)
Ivain
When it's a cheap prefab house and you don't need to care about building codes, the actual house part becomes quite cheap. It would be the land that's the big cost factor.
xlr82xs
If they do free shipping, I'm sure you can go far out into the middle of nowhere and get cheap land.
unsneakyLurker
How does plumbing and electricity work in those cheap prefab homes? Plugging them into the grid (or setting up your own water and septic tanks, and solar/generator) probably costs more than the house itself.
Ivain
Honestly I wouldn't know. I'd assume they'd come with basic water piping both in and out already built in, or just holes in the walls for an appropriate place. As for what the customer does about those, well, that's not the problem of the company delivering the house "as is", is it?
alittleglassvial
You can get tiny houses on Amazon in Seattle
abhorance
Used to be able to order a house from Sears...
rhixhikaru
They have houses you can buy anywhere.
alittleglassvial
We don’t have the luxury house option here…
rhixhikaru
Interesting
alittleglassvial
The tiny homes are marketed at the unhoused, amazons solution to the epidemic they’ve contributed to in Seattle
rhixhikaru
But that's socialism /s
I am in Texas and we just bus people to other cities and states.
