Linus Tech Tips actually did a video with 2TB of RAM and Google Chrome. It was neat.

My laptop doesn't notice chrome like at all.

Firefox is the offspring of the greatest browser ever: Netscape Navigator. There is no reason to use any other.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seems to me 5 years ago Firefox had this distinction.

It's typically: Browsing imgur entire day -> task manager -> imgur: 2.5GB.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One reason is because of all the testing Chrome/Chromium/Brave/et al do in the background, irrespective of the number of tabs.

How many kapwing watermarks does this gif need, literally just sign in and no watermark, delete account when done, repeat steps for next vid

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And that's why i use Firefox

Steam destroys my computer. I don't use Chrome.

Best chilhood ever. Growing up watching these early sundays, not a worry in the world..

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just built my computer for cad cam work. 64gigs of ram. Come at me chrome... I use Firefox like a civilized human but my point remains.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Unused RAM is wasted RAM. It's there to be used.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

people don't even realize steam's new friends and library ui is an embedded chrome (steamwebhelper exes)

Windows also eats up like 20% of my computer's ram. I upgraded from 8 to 24 GB, with only internet/steam/discord open, it went from 3 to 7.2

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It generally will be the same but a lot will sit in the page file on a low ram system. On 8GB ram its 3GB % 4GB Paged vs 7GB unpaged on 24GB

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get that Chrome is a RAM hog but honestly, who actually has to deal with this these days? Unless you’re using a PC with 256 MB of RAM?

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My PC has 8GB ram and chrome has successfully crashed my whole computer multiple times in the middle of class. Any tips?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds like it's not just a matter of the amount of ram, as my laptop has 4gb of ram and can run a dozen chrome tabs pretty quickly.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

32 GB is the new 4 GB

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Chrome using more ram than a modern AAA video game...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Chrome is trash. Mozilla gang 4lyfe!

I've always hated firefox. Opera was good, now I use brave. The poopy design is a turnoff imo. To each his own though.

That's why I download them and put up on my Plex server.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

hey, what I do with chrome is my business. & BTW, that's 2 dozen porns running @ once.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I work in IT. I've seen ppl using like 16GB on a couple tabs. Chrome is a hog

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

After 99 tabs open in Chrome, the tab count just shows a " :D "

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Everybody should Install an extension called The Great Suspender. It will immediately solve the problem. Works for everybody.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

420 you mean...?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Nah that doesn't matter. As long as they are not actively loaded its not a issue I currently have 299 tabs in 8 windows open, 803MB RAM used

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you count all the background tasks and stuff that cant be seen in Task Manager its more like 2GB, but still who cares on systems >8BG Ram

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How else am I gonna watch porn?

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Get a tab suspender extension so you can have literally thousands of tabs taking up less than 2GB of RAM

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly!

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've had it freeze my entire computer with just 4 YouTube tabs open. My computer runs on ultra quality with games, it's not a bad PC.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really? That's weird. I've never had issues with Chrome. What's your specs?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly it only happened once or twice out of the 3 or 4 years I've had this PC. 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But I've got 16 GB ram, a GeForce GTX 960 (kinda old, but I don't have the money to upgrade), and a AMD anthalon x4 860k CPU. 2/2

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Edit: So yeah my computer specs are pretty low for current gaming but it does alright.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have personally seen someone have Firefox with 3500 tabs open and not kill the system. 30ish Chrome tabs cripple the same unit.

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

huh, firefox dies at around 550 for me

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is my current firefox instance as I type this. Holding up just over 6gb. Wheeee.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

What?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All those Pornhub tabs. I can respect that commitment to get the best nut.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

42 sounds like quite the improvement these days...

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Seriously. That's how many are left after a nice purge or crash that closed a bunch on me.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

42 tabs per window, 3-4 windows is my rule.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bruh, I've had Chrome lock up systems while uninstalled.

5 years ago | Likes 189 Dislikes 2

Learn how to take care of a windows installation and dumb shit like this won't happen.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Chrome is an insignificant blip on my radar because I have 32 gb of RAM.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

All those insidious background processes. Might as well nuke the MBR from orbit just to be sure.

5 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 0

haha damn dude.. great combo references

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

One fuckin tab open and my poor surface's ram is already showing 36%.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

idek what to even do to solve it and keep it from overheating aside from what I did: use firefox instead and halve it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Weird cause firefox uses the same amount of ram for me....

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I thought the same would happen and yet... it works?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

how much fucking ram do you have? I ran 8gb for 5 years and never once locked up.

5 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

32gb; Chrome can still tie up a quarter of it with just three or four tabs open.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Sounds like something else bruh, I have like 8 windows open w/ 10 tabs each of articles I'll never read from months ago, 16gb, runs fine.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

As an IT professional, I can assure you Chrome has memory leaks out the ass.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Don’t tell me how to live my life. Those 42 tabs are all important, I’ll finish reading all those articles someday.

5 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 0

And those recipes to attempt and projects to work on.. It's like my own 'honey do list' ! And just as productive... Hmm.

Maybe Youd like to meet my friend "the bookmark"

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

We all know bookmarks are the land where links go to die and never see the light of day ever again

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I have two tabs open from August 2019.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Chrome will grab as much as you can offer without compromising the system. 4GB if you have 8GB. 2GB if you have 4GB

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Ehh not so much, currently hovering 3Gb/32Gb...

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The base amount is still far too much for what chrome is. I've been thinking about switching to Firefox or edge recently

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

i was looking for a lightweight browser to be able to quickly use as a "secondary" and was led to Vivaldi, and in the day ive used it im >>>

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

considering switching it over as my primary. its really nice

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Edge is pretty good. It is based on chromium now

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you're not using it why not allow it to use it. It's literally just a cache to load webpages faster. It gives it up when another needs it

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My point is that the base amount of ram, regardless of what free ram it grabs, is still far too high.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The "base amount" is under 100MB, it runs well enough on even a laptop with 2GB of memory, I even tried for myself on an old ass PC.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Edge? Really?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yes Edge. I use the new version based on chromium.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Edge is good for majority users.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh yes.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You should try hard closeing Chrome and then hitting "restore tabs" when you re-open it. So that you keep the tabs but they remain unloaded

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I've noticed that when I've rebooted - I should use that more. Will do so on my laptop. Desktop is whatever.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have 299 tabs in 8 windows utilizing 805MB of ram. Only because I dont go and load all those tabs

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Who the he'll needs 299 tabs
