After rehabilitation due to exhaustion and a head wound from plastic netting, this blue penguin was released back where it was found. Once beyond the breakers, it swam out far and strong.

We can live beside the ocean Leave the fire behind Swim out past the breakers Watch the world die

Aww, was a happy and sad occasion. Such a tiny one. I hope he will fare well out there in the big ocean.

I feel ashamed how this brave little creature faces the deafining vastness of grey eternity without as much as flinching while I almost 1/2

chickened out from a week-long trip to India. I wish I, a member of the apex species of our planet, had half as much courage as this 2/3

AD highlight.

Do they know where to go and what to do all alone?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As far as other comments have discerned. This species of penguin is a solitary type. It is likely to survive on it's own.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oooh, o.k always learning new stuff. Thank you.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish they'd release these near lots of other animals, it'd help keep them feeling (and actually) safe, this poor guy looked terrified. :(

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don’t worry, this little guy is actually an adult and this species is solitary so he will be happy on his own :)

Thanks for the snack

no orcas in that part of the ocean, AFAIK

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've watched orcas for hours while drinking beer on a beach in Kaikoura, I'm 50% sure they're there

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I daresay that beats my "I'm only vaguely aware of what part of the planet this is occurring in" knowledge

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kaikoura has sperm whales year round and shit tons of dolphins and seals and usually a bunch of orcas. Swimming with wild dolphins there 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is one of my most fond memories

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't it be best to release it with a bunch of other penguins to increase its odds of survival?

6 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

Little blue penguins are solitary so he will be ok on his own

6 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

"OK", meaning he might survive the next 2 weeks or more. Mother Nature doesn't care, predators have kids to feed, too.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Thank you, sincerely.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

that's all i wanted to know

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I feel a bit better about this too.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

This is said every time this is posted... and each time it makes me feel better about it.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We should designate someone to say it every time so no one gets unnecessarily sad. Next time it’s your turn!
