1: That was deliberate, and 2: It's a Jetstream, they come in flat-packed kits you weld together yourself, then fit the engine out of a crashed jetski to it. They also sell HDPE armour-plating sheeting for the bottom of them so you can bash them down rapids etc.
Could be shock. I've definitely been in bad situations where I did not have the mental capacity to make my face do something. My interpretation is the kid doesn't know how to stop.
