All credit for the compilation goes to goodgoodgoodco on IG. Definitely a salve for the rest of the headlines.

Savor the victories, friends

Tuberculosis has nothing to do with this.

We need to stop supporting the IOC and FIFA

#5 Charlie Kirk would not approve. But the only thing that Charlie Kirk is doing is decomposing.

Not nearly as abundant as bad news but very welcome. Thank you :)

#4 The IOC did the same thing with Haiti as well. A Haitian team (I forgot what sport) had a custom painting of Toussaint Louverture on their uniform. The man is an integral part of Haitian history, having led the first successful slave revolution, who was later captured by the French and died in a French prison. The original artist had to paint over Toussaint, leaving only the horse he was riding on. It ended up being an even bigger statement: here was Toussaint, disappeared again by colonists.

Thank you for highlighting the good news, friend!

We slog in a lot of science denialism, extremism, sociopolitical conflict, race and gender dynamics, on the day to day. Everyone deserves some good news and savor the wins where they are

This, is a good post.

#1 I've been supporting one of their main charities for this project since it's inception and they send me awesome socks.

#4 they did what?!

They disqualified an athlete for having pictures on their helmet?

The governing body of the Olympic Games can fuck right off.

First, they allow Israel to compete and now this. Before it looked like that they don’t give a shit about genocide but now they are actively against showing an even a minuscule amount of resistance towards it. Hell, not even resistance. Just awareness, I’d say.

The Olympic Games have always been a bit wacky but now they are completely dead to me.

Also, I seem to remember that last time they forced athletes to swim in rivers of shit and pools with water that was literally green.

They also included video games for the first time but they did it like a disconnected grandpa would: by including some shitty mobile games rather than actual proper esports titles like Counter Strike or Gran Turismo or League of Legends or what have you.

Absolutely out of touch.

So, Olympic committee can disqualify people for wearing memorial helmet to recognize fallen brothers and sisters, but not disqualify those wearing pro-war or pro-genocide symbolism? Is cruelty and apathy just baked into large institutions? How did we get to this point, which wrong turn was made?

I don't know what you're specifically referring to, but Russia for example is banned from the olympics.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you referring to the Israeli flag, or something else? Not arguing, genuinely curious

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Valid questions that are interesting to look back on the last 10 years of news

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Supposedly, the helmet is political, but I don't see it. How is it different than having a picture of your deceased wife or something? Unless I missed it, there was no anti-Russia writing so the IOC is full of shit. Seeing its president cry because they had to disqualify the Ukrainian athlete, bullshit. Stop crying fake tears and reinstate him you coward.

#1 listen, I'm not one to care that much about celebrities and public figures, but Hank and John are pure good souls and I adore them and hope good things happen to them.

I feel the same. It reminds me of the scene from Parks &Rec where they ask the police chief for a favor and HE says yes, "because Leslie Knope uses her favors to help others". Love the Green boys. DFTBA

TO BE CLEAR they did not donate 50 million, they led a fundraising effort for over a decade to raise 50 million, including running multiple companies. With that said, comitting such time is even more impressive IMO than some billionaire dropping 0.5% of their wealth.

No need to shout, I wasn't really addressing that exact thing; I hadn't thought it was their own personal money.
I just made that comment because of everything else I already know about them.

Their makeup shorts on YouTube are astonishing

I love this comment for no particular reason other than tying random headlines to daily life makes me happy even if it doesn't make an ounce of difference to me personally. This is how it's supposed to work folks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0scq03Z6Ow They did not give $50 million, which this video by Hank Green himself talks about. What they did was very different. It's worth listening to the story, it's a short 5 minute video.

Cool beans. Thanks for the link/sauce.

Thanks for sharing this. They are clear that their businesses and theri community came together with philanthropists and foreign agencies to help make that happen. BUT YES TO A TEACHING HOSPITAL IN SIERRA LEONE!

1 month ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Correct.

They instigated and helped *raise* that amount. I'm sure they also gave generously, in the form of running multiple businesses where the profit went entirely into that cause. But they had a ton of help.

Having said that, if it wasn't for them it wouldn't have happened. Well done guys.

I love the Green brothers so much! Such an amazing example of how to use privilege and fame to help people.

1 month ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

I honestly didn't know they were brothers. I thought they were a couple. I also don't know much about Hank Green. He comes across my feed once in awhile, drops a nugget of wisdom, and disappears

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They are a couple of brothers. They are also fish. They are tuberculosis as well. And they are the fault in our stars. But most importantly, they are turtles all the way down.

Lol I have that but with John

Paying for 1 month of Dropout is worth it just to see his special "Pissing Out Cancer"

#1 So like, I didn't really know who John Greene is until I learnt he was the author for Fault in Our Stars, which is aaaaaa problematic book at best, and at first as the youtube algorithm served me up the videos with John in them(I'm fine with the Hank ones) I was like "eh, miss, not for me" but no, books can just be kinda problematic even when the authors actually are genuinely good and awesome people.

Also, what the fuck, Hank is some kind of amazing.

I consider them to be the best liberals. They're good but often towing the line at the last second rather than leading. I think they've done a good job being better about it lately, but thats a taken with salt statement because the fascism is rather overt now. I really appreciate the projects they've used their platform to launch forwards. They've done a lot more good than other people in their position.

Technology Connections, on the otherhand. What a rockstar.

Problematic at best? Why's that?

Based on a skim, this covers it far better than I will ever be able to.

Betcha a dollar John has read this and added it to his anxiety pile already. ^_^

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

you should link it in his doobaleedoo just in case : P

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He probably has. As a person, he seems like a genuine dude who actually cares about the impact his books have, and like he'd learn from the mistakes.

I learnt that because I gave some of his vids a chance, and realized my bias was wrong.

The Ann Frank house scene is pretty cringy for sure but most of the other criticism in that essay is some pretty unfair projection. The inclusion of stereotypes in a book is not the same as perpetuating them. Disabled people experience those stereotypes. As long as the book casts those stereotypes in the proper context, they are not being perpetuated, they are reflecting lived experiences. We aren't supposed to agree with the characters when they are punching down at themselves and each other.

I'll take your word for it or something, I don't know I don't give a shit, fault in our stars was considered problematic for the whole time I was aware of it, in all the e-spaces I spent time in and that includes Imgur.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's because most e-spaces have the media literacy of a toddler. Incapable of discerning nuance. Context is never taken into account and purity tests are welded like hammers. It's the same place where LGBT characters can never be imperfect or complex because that's "bad representation."
