I was just complaining about having to be outside in the heat today... I'll hush now.

I am looking at this while laying in bed and I still get that weird weak feeling in my legs looking at this!

holy shit ... the harness only hanging loose from his torso, nothing to actually catch, let alone buffer his fall. Only secured through one rope+hook, of course not secured while standing at the edge and unhooking his only line while sitting on that bench. There's no point complaining about a lack of helmet, he won't live long enough to need one.

At first I was like, well, at least there’s *some* edge protection… then I realized it was a single rope… then I saw that dubious figure 8… then it kept getting worse.

This made my weenie tingle

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah…that’s a no for me dawg.

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Fuck every little bit of that.

8 months ago | Likes 275 Dislikes 1

I fazed out watching that. Wtf happened...?

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For example the frayed rope he is relying on?

8 months ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

I was literally muttering under my breath, "oh fuck no oh fuck no oh fuck no oh fuck no..." the entire time I was watching this.

Dude I've been on those types of roofs before and crosswind is no joke. That dude better sprout some fucking wings.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

DUDE! Your fall arrest webbing is NOT on correctly. I repeat, your fall arrest is not on right. If you fall off that bosun's seat, you're going to have a fast shrugging motion be your last act on this earth as you plummet to your death. DUDE, get your ass back up here!

Yep, my vertigo would kill me as I try to set the first part of that rig. I felt it just watching him.

8 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I don’t have vertigo and feel like
I would still just fall over that ledge.

If it was a choice between living in poverty on the streets for the rest of my life or doing this for at least 10 years and making $500,000 per year I'd get real comfortable with the fact that there are no park benches to sleep on anymore.

Tryna guess the language... Thai, maybe? Anyway, fuckin stones on that man, shit

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes, as katashimon13 says, it's Vietnamese. He's carefully explaining how to, er, do what he's doing with the equipment I think. I've seen a lot of similar workers there, often with no safety equipment at all, like painters with just ropes and a board to sit on. They're brave and skilled and tend to dismiss the safety aspect. But of course it's ultra-dangerous regardless. Things are better there than they used to be, but still not good :(

I hope he secures his tools. His employer is going to be devastated by the loss if they fall down.

All of the gear, while it would do the job, it is still something that it is far from good compared to the current industry standards like Petzl iD and Petzl ASAP combo. Also, the thing that looks like fall arrester doesn’t have shock absorber connected to it so in the case of fall it could produce high forces to the body resulting in injury. Finally, although I am not IRATA rope technician, I believe that while rigging your gear you should always have a backup in the case of slippage etc.

I doubt that harness would do much to stop a fall anyways. No leg straps and way too loose on him. Also looks worn and discolored. God knows how many chemicals have been soaked into it.

Oh. Hell. No.

i have vertigo.
this is it.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Used to do shit like that. The hardest part is getting lunch sent up.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I used to work on oil towers and it was often white knuckle, mostly from fear of dropping something more than falling. The best part of the job was no one ever bothered you. They might call you on the radio, but they sure as hell weren't coming up. Worst part of the job was the actual job. STILL, this looks more intense than what I did, the swaying in the wind was wild on steel towers or when cranes were flying stuff in on a foggy night, felt like you were on a ship or something.

That IS cool! :D

Where are his safety sandals?

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What part did most people not like? The part where he is secured by a single rope, or the part where he's secured by a single rope?

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's a 10-year-old carabiner in this equation, too.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought it was an owl

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That made my plums tingle

8 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I always feel it right in my gooch.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I wonder if women experience that, and if so what form it takes?

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Felt it in my legs and the bottoms of my feet. Not a tremble, exactly. A very odd sensation like the nerves were flinching. The message was very clear: uncomfortable! do not like!

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also a tingle/zap.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm curious how much his compensation is for doing that.

8 months ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

As an IRATA Level 3 I was earning about £400 a day

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As the only person who has potentially viewed this, is he safe?

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can pretty confidently say, not enough...

8 months ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 1

Pay in Vietnam is still very low in general. I would guess that he's not getting more than USD 500 / month. Could be wrong if he's paid more for the danger or skill, but often that just doesn't happen. Even if it did, it wouldn't be much more, sadly.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I do this in Australia. Not like this, but it's $50au per hour. which is not great it is $40 for bar work. But it is also kinda fun.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait, you wash exterior windows of high rise buildings and make $50 an hour doing so? I think that’s… well, I guess I don’t know if that’s fair or not.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, if it is anything like the Cambodian construction workers, in 2016 they made a whole $7 a day.

Too lazy to look it up, but i wonder the actual buying power of the $7 is there

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not enough

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck "Be quiet, others have it worse." Absolutely others have it worse than I do. That doesn’t mean your pain disappears or your problems don’t matter. You don’t need to be on fire to justify saying you're too hot.

8 months ago | Likes 438 Dislikes 11

Especially when it’s too hot to be barefoot outside

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Absolutely! This is why we don't do comparative suffering in my house.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Parents’ slipping “children are starving in Africa so eat your food” applies here. Also racist.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Comparison is the thief of joy.

8 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Saying you shouldn't feel bad cause others have it worse is the same as saying you shouldn't be happy cause others have it better.

8 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Absolutely true, but weirdly enough it can also make people feel better about their own situation.

And that’s the danger

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Absolutely agree. Suffering is not a competition.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A rope? When I was your age…

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you have only one arm you're better off than someone with no arms, but you still won't be able to tie your shoe laces.

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

But can still jerk it, so a wins a win? Lol
