I was always falling. Mostly off bikes, out of trees, over my own two feet. Soon as I hit the ground, oops, there's something else that's sprained. Mostly wrists & ankles. I have literally lost count of how many times I've sprained those four. It's easily been a dozen... each.

Doctor's office now houses a new specialist. They send me to him, bc my usual doc has struck out on trying to figure out where my pain is coming from. Dude has already looked over my chart (which he blithely informs me that he was going to only glance at it the week prior, but "was glad I started that early, because your history is probably the most detailed, & the most injury filled, I've ever seen"... thanks -.-).

And then shit starts.

First of all, ow. Holyshitballsbatman, ow. I was doing fine with him moving my shoulder all up & around. But when he wrapped his hand around the joint & pinched it, I almost threw up on him, from the pain. And this is coming from someone who has been in some level of pain as far back as I can remember.

I have had 2 kids, broken bones, had concussions... & nothing has ever hurt this bad.

He gets REALLY interested in that response, tho.

... and then turns my whole world upside down...

... fuck...

I was supposed to start my masters program this fall... & I have to now postpone that, bc I have to get medical testing, & this doc, who specialises in this shit...

If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any.

Gonna be a fun meeting at work on Thursday. My boss was texting me all day, bc she knew I had this appointment today, to make sure I was ok, & "how did things go". Gonna ignore those texts until I see her on Thursday, to give myself time to figure out what to say to her.

Cat tax. Spooning kitties. No, I didn't pose this. I just took the picture. Salome on the left, Ivan on the right. & they both know that my day has sucked. So they're hanging out in bed with me, trying to make me feel better.

MV edit: Ok, so... this went crazy after I went to bed. I haven't had a chance to read over & upvote everyone's comments, but I'm working on it. Everyone that has messaged me, or the few comments I've seen, has been super sweet, & I thank you. Right now, I don't have any answers. Just suspicions, & looming tests. I'll try to make another post when I get news. Again, thank you all.

Hi. You have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Ok bye!

For fuck's sake I was thinking connective tissue disorder from your FIRST sentence. A doctor not catching that is ridiculous.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Yes, sounds like Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. A friend has it, good luck. There will be lots of testing before diagnosis. Same for my CFS/fibro.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry, my friend. I hope all goes well for you, and that you don't stub your toe in the near future.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

@op get the paperwork for your university's disability accommodations filled out by your doctor. Take care of that now if you want it.

Stay strong @OP There's an amazing Imgurian who got diagnosed with EDS by Imgur (crazy story) look her up she's @CheyAdeleRose

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Check her out. https://youtube.com/c/JessicaKellgrenFozard She's got a connective tissue disorder and a list of other stuff. She's fun!!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A Connective tissue disease isn't anything you haven't been freaking with already. Just a name for what you already have. Don't freak out.

Americans reading this be like "$, $$, $$=$$$! $=$$¢?! $!!! $... $?"

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Your boss can't legally ask you that. "I'd prefer not to discuss it." Is a perfectly valid answer. Also, go on to school. Work testing aroun

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

@op check out hEDS

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Getting an answer was the best thing happened to me. Hope you'll get there, too.

4 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

This!!! Absolutely better to know, than to live in continuous uncertainty...

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

ehler danlos syndrome?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Sounds like Ehlos Danlos. My wife has it, and similar story of injuries. If you have a doctor that listens, stick with them.

4 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

I have MS. Its not great, could be worse. If they have meds and supports for whatever you have, then you may have options to improve life.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

First sentence made me think- good on you for having a master's in science. Next sentence made me go- oop...(⑉⊙ȏ⊙)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ehlers Danlos?

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Don’t postpone your grad program. This testing and doc appts will go on for yrs. My mom has the same issues, I know. Don’t delay your life.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why would postpone a masters program for medical tests? Doesn’t it only take a few hours?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not when it takes 3-4 months to get the test done, & I can't afford the medical bills & school at the same time.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If it ends up being EDS, it is totally manageable with the right treatment and PT. I’m so glad you’re finally getting answers though!!

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Focus on what you need to do today. You don't have answers yet, so consider telling your boss you are waiting for test results. *hugs*

Always best to réciprocité dialogue when IT comes to work

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Been in therapy for 10 years. Focus on now, even if it's that minute. The rest will happen without your consent, so don't give it energy.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Good advice. Hoping the best for you OP.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is the correct course. Congratulations, op, on getting a good doctor. I'm on that journey again now that my prior one passed

4 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

Do Not, repeat DO NOT put your life on hold for testing. It can be worked around your program. You have lived this long with those injuries3

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They can wait for you to finish school. It is not life threatening just life altering. Keep your momentum going forward. Chronic condition 2

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

does not mean put yourself on a shelf & sit on the sidelines. It means create your own rules to cross the finish line.1

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What yoy describe coyld also match Ehlers danlos syndrome. How flexible are you?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I mean, not stupidly..? I'm almost 40, & still sit w/ my feet in my lap, bc it feels more comfortable. Even in chairs.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Worth mentioning to the doctor on your next appointment. You can also look up Beighton score for the flexibility test.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Noted. Thanks. ?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What would you be doing right now if you weren't waiting to hear back if something out of your control is true or false? Go do that. 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Do it again tomorrow, and the next day. You can't change what's coming, for better or worse, so tell life YOLO and keep on living it.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Getting up in the morning, going into the barn, & spending the predawn hours w/ my animals, before heading to work. Since I'm off tomorrow>>

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Getting up in 4 hours, trying not to throw up from the pain (again), feeding the cats, then getting a shower, before going >>

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Grocery shopping, & pretending to be a normal human being so the locals don't freak out over the fact that there's a sick person nearby.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Go head and respond to your boss, just say 'I'm doing ok, thank you for your concern. I'll speak to you Thursday about it further'

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

On Thursday, I’d simply say, “I don’t really know anything yet. Just that the Doctor finds me ‘interesting’ and wants to run more tests!”

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People would kill for a boss that is actually invested in their staff, instead of those begging for you to come in

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I have a boss like that too. He’s awesome

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes...BUT...I had a boss who ACTED like that then told all my confidences to our sociopath director & my career trajectory was toast BEWARE!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah definately keep your personal life as separate as possible.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ALWAYS good advice. Can NEVER goo wrong following it! No matter how “friendly” or “nice” or “sympathetic” your boss (seems). It is WORK.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Could it be Ehrlos Danlos syndrome

4 years ago | Likes 132 Dislikes 2

Came here to say this.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeppers!

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That was my thought on reading the very first image.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I’ll add another agreement, this was my first thought as well. My sister was just like OP all her life and got diagnosed with EDS recently

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or both if life hates her...

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

... Oh, I see we've met. ?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

sounds like it tbh

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Extremely possible! I was diagnosed 5 years ago after very similar life experiences!

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

That was what I came here to comment. Much more likely that you have EDS than MS. Sucks anyway, but a diagnosis is great anyway!

4 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Not great news but better to know than not to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehlers%E2%80%93Danlos_syndromes

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not enough information, there are lots of hypermobility related disorders. EDS is possible but in this case since he's actually seeing a >

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

specialist he might as well wait for test results before speculating further. It is worth signposting people about it if they're unaware >

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

that they have an issue at all though,I've done it a few times and was correct on two,one never followed it up because American 'healthcare'

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yup thinking the same thing, when you hear hoof beats, think zebras, not horses.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

well, not really, most cases of common symptoms are in fact caused by common diseases/disorders. not to downplay how frustrating it is to be

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

ignored by medical staff but this is how they are trained to function and it works for the majority of things

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Oops

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

NP, mate~ I've got EDS and I still suck at spelling it!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeahhhh my Master’s Program ended my marriage. Graduate degrees cause a lot of divorces. Be mindful. Best

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Only dude allowed in my bed is the 4-legged, furry one that calls me 'meow', bc the 2-legged ones are mostly annoying. & want sex.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I’m getting there @OP

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... NGL, I looked for a selfie... Also, You're gonna have to ask permission from the cats. & after my ex, Ivan is... irked. ?
