When You Finally Join The Master Race

Hahahaha this is amazing. Apologies if this is old. First time i've seen this. No i dont' mean back to the future -_-

Doom 4 plays at max settings even for my $650 Dell PC bought 2 years ago now. I think its just Doom 4.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

IDK run doom on a gtx1070 with vulkan and full nightmare but barely getting above 100 fps on 1080p...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just joined the master race myself, waiting on my 1070 in the mail

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Can finally say I joined that crew. Spent 700$ pre tax on a Nvidia gtx 1080 so I can play games in 4k

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just built my pc and got doom so I feel you

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Uses a console controller to play an FPS on pc. ...really?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

when you waste 2k of daddy's money to play Minecraft

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I'm relevant!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

NO

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is Doom really that good? I mean, it just seems like another FPS. Why is it so special?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My favorite description is its the video game equivalent of when the butter is soft and the knife glides through it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

PCs are where it's at.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

TBH, the original Doom probably plays on the guitar.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

160 fps on Linux. How 'bout that? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWZvwhwT1Sk

Video running Ironically at 24fps?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Doom is legit fucking mind blowing.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you really joined the PC master race then you would be using a keyboard & mouse instead of a controller.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

Using a controller to play doom *shudders*

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 6

Oh, stop being melodramatic. At least he's not using motion controls.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I just watched a video of someone playing it on console, and it seems way too slow for the gameplay. No thanks.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Must be something wrong with me. GTX 1070, i7 6700k, 120hz monitor, etc and can't really see a lot of difference with my old setup.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Newer hardware isn't always drastically better, how much research did you do on parts for your new setup?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How much RAM did you put in and are you booting from or using SSD?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

32g and yeah the OS is on a new SDD. So was my old one tho.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, the difference is that you can now play some titles you couldn't play before. And you should have more fps. Unless...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...unless your old rig was just as good as your new one. Which is not what anyone would assume.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But why is he holding a console controller still?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Because the xbox one controller works with pc.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

hes playing shitty doom and you're complaining about his controller? honestly some people.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 31

shitty doom? is it, really?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm just trying to make sense of the gif being PC based but him holding a console controller. I don't follow this war too closely.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

because its 2017 and controllers work with a pc now? this is old news

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Now? I used to play Carmageddon on a PC with one almost 20 years ago. But part of the PC benefit is using a mouse on an FPS.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

pc benefit is being able to use whatever peripheral you want

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I switch back and forth between keyboard and controller on PC. Using controllers are easier on my wrists for binge gaming.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Guuuys I'm buying a laptop soon and I know jack shit about hardware I need some guidance

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

what dod you need a computer for ? do you really need it to be portable, laptops tend to be more expensive for the same power than a pc

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I move allot and my old laptop busted so I need a new one, but Imma be honest it's for gaming

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i hope this can help https://www.reddit.com/r/laptopgaming/ , i dont know enough about laptops myself to give you a good recommendation

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Buy a pc. I made mistake of buying laptop instead of pc. works half as good with the same specs and gets 20000x as hot.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Also more expensive. Don't by a laptop unless you REALLY don't have the space for a PC. There really aren't any other advantages.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

This. As long as you don't really need portability, go with desktop computer. Better hardware for same price, easier to fix/mod/enhance, ...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

... easier to cool, therefore better longevity; better connectivity; doesn't really take up more space (footprint wise) than laptop either

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just ordered a 4K monitor and a gtx 1080..... biggest upgrade in 4 years.... I can't wait for the mailman

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The price of those 2 items are double the price of my PC, monitors and equiment. One day want a GTX 1070 maybe... or RX 480...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Rx480 will Rek the 1070 in a year I'm calling it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I got a good deal on Amazon for the monitor $400. And the card was 550. I've just been tired of fiddling with my settings. Time for ultra!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the Dutch amazon is limited to mostly books. The german one has the 1080 for 870 euro or something...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's a disgusting price. Sorry man

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

TIL there was a CRM 114 in Back to the Future... just like the CRM 114 year in Dr. Strangelove.

9 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

Thank you! I see this every time with friends and no one gets it... I need new friends.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

thx 1138

I immediately starting humming "the animals went in two by two" dr strange love, amazing film.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Major Kong, we got a message in over the CRM-114! Decoded it reads as Wing Attack: Plan R. R for Roberts!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How many times have I told you guys that I don't want no horsin' around on the airplane??

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We're not horsing around sir! That's how it decodes! Wing Attack: Plan R, R for rosengold!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But you are still using a peasant controller. Keyboard and mouse for FPSes.

9 years ago | Likes 202 Dislikes 62

And if you must it a controller for some reason make it a steam controller!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Until you try playing games like Super Meat Boy with keyboard - you're gonna have a baaaaaaad time

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Not always. Sometimes controllers feel better.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

You mean Racing wheels for FPSes

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Gabe himself, blessed be his name, bestowed upon us a controller. All input devices are beautiful in His eyes.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Steam just got updated to support like just about any controller. Still in beta tho.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Meh, I choose depending on the game. Doom is definitely a controller game for me.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

PC gamers can choose to use whichever peasant controller they please. Like drinking from the skull of your slain enemies.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'm relevant

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lol its a simple reason why its a controller instead of a mouse or keyboard, the original is a guitar pick, a controller makes more sense

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I just don't have the space to use a mouse. Still a diamond overwatch player. Season high is 3400. It's whatever you're used to that's best.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah man I'm plat in LoL using a controller it's pretty sweet

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Steam Controller motherfucka. Do you speak it?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Sheeeit. Unless I'm playing an FPS for the multiplayer, I'm using a controller. Just feels better to me.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

Doom doesn't really need the precision that other FPSes require, it does need the movement though - which I find better from a controller

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

I can only play shooters with a controller.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 7

then you suck at shooters

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 8

I actually do better with a controller than I do a mouse and keyboard. Use whatever feels comfortable and fuck what anyone else says.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Than you can't play shooter at all ...

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 8

The hell games have you been playing

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

Shooter without aimbots

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

The fact that you can't imagine someone playing well with a shooter on controller without aimbots is astounding. Ever seen a halo tourny?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

The glory of the PC however is using whatever you want.

Yeah let's just conveniently forget how console users experienced a mild panic when cross-platform FPS multiplayer was introduced. Peasants.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

You gotta admit the best way play games is with a microwave

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Or that fucking goldfish

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I use controller for everything it supports except multiplayer shooters. Couch gaming FTW

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. You people dont understand that it's called the PC master race not just for graphics, but also for the keyboard/mouse dominance.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 28

For shooters, maybe. But if I'm playing an arcadey driving game, I'm going to be using a controller because keyboards don't do analog input

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

I game PC and some games I use the mouse/keyboard and others I use the controller. If it's a game designed for console I use the controller.

9 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 2

My rule. Simulator joystick. Shooter or strategy. Mouse. Third person controller

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

MGSV:The Phantom Pain is unplayable with mouse and keyboard on PC sadly... Thankfully I have an extra XB1 controller.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's games designed for controllers?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 13

Beat em Ups, Jump and Runs and many crappy designed console ports.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dark souls is a good one for that. Keyboard controls feel clunky.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

*There are

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Beat em Ups and Jump & Runs ... and bad console ports where they fucked up the interface and controls.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Anything arcade-style is better with a controller, or local multiplayer. Nidhog, Tower Fall, etc.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Anything that doesn't need precision or indicate UI is often better with a controller. Generally platform, racing, actionRPG, fighting

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

More console-ish games. And thats just my opinion. But like, EVE or Starcraft, keyboard, Fallout/GTA controller..

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Unmodded Fallout, maybe

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I'm not saying never use a controller (as you say, for some games it is better), but Doom is definitely a keyboard+mouse FPS. I'm 1/

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

just annoyed by the incongruity, even though the controller is the only thing that would work in this animation. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

A controller is comfortable. And if playing on the TV definitely your best option. Mouse and Keyboard is only really necessary if you're-->

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

--> doing multiplayer. Otherwise who cares.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

When you drop $2k on a gaming rig and forget about a decent PSU

And the brown out on the motherboard wrecks it all

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

indeed i just had my 850 Watt gold shit out on me, didn't take any pc components with it totaly worth the extra 100-150$ over cheaper ones

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

WTF!? I will let you know i am only using the highest quality PSU that BESTEK ever put in my e-machines!! it runs my GTX 1080 just fine!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i've had bad luck with supposed brand name PSU's! had about 3 failed corsairs !

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ugh, I had a cheap one fail on me before. Replaced it with a much more powerful EVGA supply. Much better now :P

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

EVGA <3

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I have a friend who got a bad PSU off Amazon for £15, combined with a bad case it caught fire

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same except in my case it was proper cooling for my 9590

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seasonic lyfe yo.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's heavy

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ugh. EVERYBODY forgets this key part.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Or they massively underestimate how much they need because some dumbass on youtube says you don't need 800-1000w+ psu's.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

You don't in a lot of cases....

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Considering how long a good psu will last getting overkill will ensure you won't have to replace it when you build the next rig or two. (1)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That said its not a popular thing to do because hey short term gains and fuck the future upgrade path (2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

PSU ALWAYS GOES FIRST. Almost always unless you get unlucky with your ram. HD don't count, shit's a crapshoot.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, easily the most important piece of the rig

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had a vigorous argument with someone who has "worked on computers for many years" say that a $30 PSU was as good as a $60-$70 one.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or monitor...Not what I did at all

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I went cheap on my psu, and Mobo. Lots of regret. Almost no o.c. ability with Mobo, and 3rd psu I finally got a good one.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pussy sucker upper?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah, I have an awesome PSU, but it ends up molesting kids too often

9 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is there really such a thing as a poor quality 2kW PC PSU? I thought the poor ones are simply not into that market segment.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

While I did exaggerate, there are cheap PSUs that have specs that they can't sustain.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

*cough* "Bronze" *cough*

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

No, this is BELOW bronze. These are ones that don't even manage 60%.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The rating system has nothing to do with quality, only efficiency/heat waste. You can build something stable but inefficient. Like US cars!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Never cheap out on the PSU

9 years ago | Likes 294 Dislikes 0

Never cheap on anything, even the keyboard. That's the secret to a long lasting PC.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This. I built a 13 year old family friend a rig out of a [email protected] and a 5870 that I bought close to 10 years ago. Buy once, cry once,

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I learned that the hard way, it fried my CPU and motherboard when it broke 6 months in.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes. Never do. Talking from experience, my shitty Akasa PSU exploded.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*Seinfeld voice* How can you go cheap on the PSU? That's like building a house but skipping on the foundation!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What are the current respectable psu manufacturers these days? I'm building a new desktop soon (far from my first, but been a minute).

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Happy with the Corsair I bought. Big thing is to watch watts. Not enough power is bad, but if you go too high you just run bills up.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Power doesn't really work that way. PSU only puts out what's asked.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Corsair, EVGA, Seasonic and Super Flower are the ones I go for. Great warranty and very reliable on their gold+ ratings

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I really like my EVGA one, wasn't cheap but its been working with no problems for almost 18 months.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Corsair or evga with a gold rating. Can't go wrong with either. I have a evga 750 watt gold

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Got myself a Corsair 850i Platinum because they were out of gold at the time. Runs like a fuckin champ

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never has there been a statement more true.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They usually have 5 years warranty is one of the best investment in pc master race

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't consider this when upgrading one time. Bad mistake. got GPU replaced but had to buy a new board

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Even if it supplies enough a cheap one can take out your other hardware if it dies

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Buy from Corsair or EVGA. If it isn't coming from one of those brands, do a lot of research before you buy it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seasonic. Antec. Thermaltake. All good brands I've had zero issue with.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seasonic is also good. They make most of the power supplies for corsair etc.

Try working in video editing and rendering. 12-25k for a "desktop" (housing 3-8 GPUs). The Apple one's case is basically just a turbine.

Why 32gb ram? That's so unnecessary. Unless you like to run literally every Adobe program in the background while you play games?

Google Chrome

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Because fuck yo' pagefiling.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've had pagefile at zero since back when half a gig was a lot of RAM. Current VR PC build has 16gig, rarely bumps over 8 used.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was thinking about getting into PC, then I built .300blk, 9mm and 5.56 AR rifles and had change left over.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Dropped $3k back in 2012 and I have yet to need to upgrade anything. It pays dividends to bite the bullet and pay for the good parts.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Also got a $3k one only a bit over a year ago. Glorious.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I did it last year. Tied with the house for best investment EVER.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

if you want to get a maxed-out rig with some of the highest end stuff you're usually looking at a 5 figure price tag

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Jesus Christ that is ridiculous. Can't imagine too many gamers can afford that. Maybe the owners of gaming companies. lol

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you typically don't need it, $1k is a high-end gaming, $2-3k basically workstation etc.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How much for a decent one for my 9 year old son? I could start saving now and have it built (not by me) by next Christmas?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That being said I usually build a new comp every 4-5 years, if you drop $2-3k it'll pay itself off with longevity

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can get away with FAR less, like ~400-500USD. But often enthusiasts splurge after the first system, Dual/triple Monitor, Dual GPU...

I definitely over killed then. I bit the bullet on a gtx 1070. My processor is an i5 3.5ghz. Wondering I should have gotten an i7

$1k is tolerably low. Check out Linus Tech Tips on YouTube to get actually informed.

here we see a Troll in his natural habitat, gracefully dispensing bullshit while trying to give his statement just about enough credibility

I have no experience with US prices, but in the UK you can build a basic PC that can handle 60FPS 1080P on most games (high-Mid) for ~350GBP

Thanks for the reply! Haha actually this is the post that convinced me to take the plunge. I just got all my parts, sans the case and ram!

High end graphics cards alone can run you 300-700 a pop. It's an expensive hobby.

Um. 700 a pop? "High end?" Bitch the high-end cards START at 700.

Still cheaper than warhammer

Expensive if you want the best framerates at the best resolutions. If you just want to beat a console you can usually make one cheaper.

I'm a computer nerd and aquarium nerd, and compared to building a new tank, I'd call pc building pretty cheap

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Doesn't really explain why they are expensive. Just lists them.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah Just showing examples of expensive ones. I'm not sure on why either

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What makes them so expensive? I thought it was all processing power that made a PC kick ass? Graphics allow HD during processing I guess?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Every time there's a slight % increase in any aspect, they can charge what they want, because dick waving. $$$

R&D is expensive, and we're reaching the limits of silicon. Get ready for it to get pricier. Pray for graphene.

GPU = Graphics PROCESSING unit. It handles a bunch of the advanced processing that a CPU isn't built for like rendering and physics.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

GPU does physics too. CPU can only do 1-8 things at a time and a GPU can do 2000 things at the same time but is slower to do 1 thing.

Ahhhh. I see. Thanks. I'd love to see one of those things in action. It would probably blow my mind.
