Can't believe that the guy who lied about Mexico paying for his wall would lie about China paying the tariffs .....
elbowdeepinawhateverthatis
To be fairrrrr, even if China IS paying the tariffs, this is the money they’re paying it with. So we pay them, they pay the government. So it’s less that China’s PAYING, so much as being forced to waste time handling the money American citizens are paying its own government. Take…take that, China?
makeamericasmartagain9000
Yeah, she is still gonna blame Obama and Biden for that.
Igut
This is actually good side of the tariffs. EU should also try to stop cheap china shit blowing up the market and landfills
Pentjotal
Le's face it Karen son would have look so great in this dress !
Zalure17
REOJackwagon
Judging by that reaction she didn't bother clicking the (?) on those fees. Be curious, learn, adapt, or despair.
rijstewafels
She probably didn't know temu is chinese
JustAnotherPOG
Does this concept apply to raising the corporate income tax too?
RenaissanceFaireMan
Apparently Amazon is going to include something similar in it's price breakdowns. The White Ho says it's hostile and political: https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/29/white-house-blasts-amazon-over-tariff-cost-report-hostile-and-political-act.html

BUT JINA WILL PAY THE TARIFFS!
Zahnradfee
Gina will pay the tariffs.
yeahhedugit
Amazon won't do this because it will make Trump mad.
meme2zombie
We've been trying to tell them since Trump's first term that this is how they work and they won't listen.

I doubt it. I checked out her insta ( https://www.instagram.com/goucher_karen/) and she has made posts about the Gulf of Mexico & pro-LGBTQ+/Dolly Parton memes, so she's probably ok

and probably blamed the democrats
Nightchime
Apparently blames TEMU, with predictable short-sightedness.
ilikepot8os
Here's the most frustrating thing about is that if you assume they are right (They aren't) and China pays the tariffs they magats are still wrong.
If China pays, then they would have to raise prices or lose money. So if the 'cheap' China option is now more expensive than the American version, why wouldn't the American companies raise their price to get more profit?
Even if the tariffs magically just matched the price of American goods, all you've done is just raise the price to consumers.
sfrinlan
The assertion, dumb as shit as it was, I believe is that these countries are charging us these same amounts in tariffs. He kept saying the word "reciprocal", not that he has any clue what it actually means, but I think the people who taught the baby a word were trying to convey that we were raising our tariffs to "match" theirs on us, and in the end, we would both lower our tariffs, making everything cheaper for Americans overall. Obviously that's dumb as shit and built on lies, but there it is
marsilies
They told contradicting reasons for the tariffs: 1) That they're a negotiating tactic for negotiating a better trade deal, 2) They're permanent and meant to bring in revenue for the fed, to pay for the tax cuts to the rich, as well as encourage US manufacture. But both can't be true, and they alternated the reasoning based on whatever they were arguing in that moment.
sfrinlan
Part of the magic of being utterly full of shit is that you don't need an internally consistent strategy, and when idiots are baffled by your bullshit, they'll just call it 5D chess or whatever. Win-win
derekjohn
Probably doesn't know/understand that import charges = tariff.
StellaMatutina
Yeah buddy, but think of how much you're gonna be winning when he hikes your income tax too
themobileappisbroken
She hasn't learnt shit.
r1raceguy
This is obviously a lie... there's nothing perfect found on Temu for $19
DancingSwine
$19 for a dress... why ? how ? That can't be good
wihskey
"Where do all these microplastics keep coming from?" /s
Zahnradfee
Probably Uyghur labour camps.
FPAlpha
You get what you pay for. Better not wash it before putting it on or it might fall apart and better be prepared to only be able to wear it once.
TheobromineAddict
I've ordered tools from Temu and AliExpress within the last 4 weeks. Surprisingly, have not seen any tariff charges yet, but I'm expecting it and watching out for it.
arewenotkingsandqueenstogether
Don't use temu, it's quite literally slave labor
jplusc
nothing on aliexpress yet, but shien and temu started yesterday. however, if the item is listed as a "local warehouse" then there is no tarrif charge (yet) until they need to restock the local warehouse : )
they also don't list the tarrifs on the item page, it's not till checkout.
jplusc
oops, I stand corrected, aliexpress just started *today* I just went back and checked the save stuff in my cart, it now has a price breakdown like this:

TheobromineAddict
Checking borh my AliExpress and Temu carts, many items have suddenly become "unavailable' or "undeliverable".
Eidodk
They are supposed to come into full effect on May 2. as stated firmly in Executive order 14256. What is on here is the fees that CBP are charging Chinese exporters because CBP is tasked to open all containers, and "look for fentanyl".
crackajackin
Good. Buy local fuck temu
FlintNorth44
Hehehe...haha...HAHAHAHAHA!
smitmp02
Buy local who buys from China and charges a markup
landofbob
These people think $19 dresses are normal so, buying local is going to provide REAL sticker shock. "I can't believe a custom dress from a seamstress costs $300!!! What a rip off!" -MAGAT who says "Buy American" constantly but doesn't want to pay a fair wage for labor probably.
Frobizzle
Travel outside the US and local handmade items will be closer to $19 than $300 FYI. I'm not defending Temu, although not everything they sell is trash. Just saying many American products are far overpriced because we are greedy and all want to be rich.
ImgurIsOutOfUsernames
She's buying a $19 dress on Temu. She's not going to go to a seamstress for a custom dress, local or otherwise. She's going to buy off the rack. It'll still be $150, and she'll complain and bitch about that as well.
ThatDudeInTheMitten
I never have, nor will I ever buy something from temu, but her anger here seems misguided... I don't believe temu is the problem...
yaddiex3
Some woman in a FB comment (I know, I know) self righteously stated that she Only Bought American! I told her to take a roll of trash bags to her closet to throw out anything she found that wasn't made in the US. Told her also to not forget her lingerie.
Catumi
Don't forget to throw out the trash bags too!
wihskey
Do you know how their business model work(ed)? They are the problem. The de minimis exemption they built their entire business on was a loophole. Not to mention what they did to suppliers.
ThatDudeInTheMitten
Again, I have no interest in supporting temu or any service they provide...
I was commenting on this woman's experience and the import charge...
albaboss
I mean Temu is a pretty huge problem when it comes to fast fashion and creating incredibly low quality items. Obviously not the tariff issue but they are not without fault
ThatDudeInTheMitten
I don't disagree, I was only speaking contextually about the given scenario...
In a perfect world temu wouldn't exist and we would have more sustainable options...
Believe me, if you knew my lifestyle and wardrobe, you see that I'm about the furthest thing from fast fashion as one can be... I'm just now looking for a replacement pair of flip flops for the decade old pair that just broke...
ThatDudeInTheMitten
You'd see*
glittalogik
*A* problem for sure, but not this particular problem
ThatDudeInTheMitten
Well said...
DarthVaderDidNothingWrong
I'm not sure she learned. Seems she's mad at the platform, not the tariff guy
KillingTlme
Similar to how people are bitching about Amazon talking about doing the same.
Ninjainslippers
I would guess that she's even one step dumber and blames the Chinese government. And while the CCP can and should be criticized for a lot, they aren't to blame in this specific case.
ImgurIsOutOfUsernames
Yeah. I see no evidence that she learned anything.
micicle
Yeah she thinks this is somethings China is doing to them not their own government.
tetondons
There is exactly 0% chance she realized "import charges" are "tariffs."
ItsATrap
China pays that fee, not her! This is clearly Temu trying to rip her off, acting like she's some lib who doesnt know how tariffs work.
BlueDsc
Reminds me of the lady that threw a total bitch fit at us for not having a specific topping for a few months due to our distributer having problems.
ButteryBiscuitBass
Dude, you will not be able to explain this to her.
RocMage
Right. She's SEEING how tarrifs work, but not LEARNING.
Vebrandsson
Bingo
spiderjohn36
I wonder if she has connected "import charges" to "tariffs" yet? Probably not.
Eidodk
She shouldn't. Those fees are just what the US CBP charges just to CHECK the inports. Tariffs won't be added until May.
spiderjohn36
Also, from the official White House website: https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/04/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-declares-national-emergency-to-increase-our-competitive-edge-protect-our-sovereignty-and-strengthen-our-national-and-economic-security/
spiderjohn36
Today's CBS News: "The trade war between China and the U.S. has escalated over the past few weeks, with each nation hiking its import duties multiple times in a tit-for-tat. While Trump has given other countries a 90-day pause on the tariffs, as their leaders pledged to negotiate with the U.S., China has remained the exception.
U.S. import duties on Chinese products now stand as high as 145%. China, meanwhile, has hit back with 125% tariffs on U.S. products." (1/2)
Eidodk
Read up on tariffs in Executive order 14256 .... A CBS "news report", that hasn't actually researched it's data isn't surprising.

Mr21782Man
It didn't even take that long. I saw an interview with a farmer a couple of days ago. He said "they lied to us and didn't tell us what was going to happen, nobody explained what would happen". MFer, you're a farmer and lived through the first set of tariffs, everytbody not voting Trump tried to tell you, and you said it was a liberal plot. Maybe you shouldn't be planting your head next to your crops.
ilikepot8os
You joke, but I remember when the Senate overrode Obama's veto, and then BLAMED him for not explaining the problems of the bill that they passed, and overrode.
Congress suddenly has buyer's remorse for overriding ...

Biden?!! Really! How the fuck does that compute? It’s Obama’s fault!
bearstrap
I really enjoyed the recession of 2008 being called "The Obama Recession" - he wasn't even frickin' President when it started and yet... he was pretty successfully blamed for it.
nclu
Same for Democrats being blamed for Covid, despite it being Trump's fuck-up mismanagement that made things so bad.

Oh fershure. Seeing "Biden mismanaged the pandemic response in 2020" shit is just bananas.
