I get asked to work OT all the time, I turn it down often, and the response I give my boss is always "I can't buy time with money"

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And then they drop one of your shifts because they don't want to pay your overtime...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4vq9wHxCxw Our country is a fucking disgrace.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

300 for 12 hours? nani the fuck?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd say fuck you, my personal time is more valuable to me than some monetary value.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have never cared for money. I love my free time.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Get that extra day of 10hr in totaling 50: +$200 to the check. Miss a day totaling 30: -$225

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude as a salary employee currently understaffed (partly due to our great paternity benefits) i pray for OT cuz i gotta do it regardless.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Note: I LOVE our paternity benefits cuz it applies to men/women equally but it sucks being understaffed n we legit cant find a smart one

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Be careful! Money is tempting, but your physical and mental health is more important.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Exactly. How much is that six hours of sleep, that day in the sun.. etc.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I like money

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do it, but work like your Dr. Jekyll. Create a whole new personality for OT.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m getting an extra $25/hr to cover night shift for a coworker who’s hospitalized for covid. Getting a new guitar with the cash!

4 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I haven’t worked OT in 9 months. I worked out a deal to just work Tuesday night to Saturday morning to cover Friday nights.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So 25$ an hour?... just 10 dollars over what the minimum wage SHOULD be.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hell no

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nurse here. Major RN shortages everywhere. My hospital is offering 500 + overtime for first extra shift and 700 + overtime for second >

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Extra shift. I’m going to die.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've worked overtime precisely once in my life since the business had a genuine emergency situation. Still enough to last me. If any company

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

needs it on a super regular basis (and can afford more), then they can go out of business for all I care.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me working with covid patients

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish I got OT, I just earn PTO for the hours I work.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well the key there is to use them before they expire or you get fired/ laid off

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Exactly! I let 2 hrs of comp time expire last year, but I've more than made up for it working from home.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't normally mess with overtime but I've been out of work for a year, so six weeks of 6-10s is a helpful change of pace

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Ouch, I'll be happy that my wife and I can afford life and rent with just five 8 hr days

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly the only thing making it worth it is knowing it won't last too long, relatively. But it still suuuuucks

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get "in trouble" for getting 5 min of OT. like..sorry someone called me 5 mins before I was off and chatted my ear off...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me: Oh that's cool. Bye!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel that. Double time and an extra $12 an hour incentive is hard to resist.

4 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 4

Where the fuck

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I design network infrastructure for most of the country. With everyone working from home the networks are failing. Backlogs=big incentives.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Umm what company cuz I do the same and we get paid like shit here.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

let's throw tired programmers at it! /s

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Many problems have been fixed by sleep deprived programmers. And caused. But oh boy, SOMETHING happens.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Instead of hundos it's like $1's

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Get ? Those ? Onedos ?

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

My mental AND physical health or "Onedos" ?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Donating plasma. $40 for sitting on my ass for an hour while they take my plasma. Twice a week. Bonuses after 6th time per month.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Do they pay more depending on weight?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On average its $40. Light weight gets $35, heavy weight $45. And then their are bonuses depending on on certain antibodies present and

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

number of times donated that month.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Twice a week? That seems like a lot. Is that healthy? In Aus it's once every 2 weeks max.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They take just plasma, return blood. Even then the place I go to has strict standards. Too high/low of temp, denied. Too low/high iron,

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

denied. Refuse saline solution before leaving, no money and denied further.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the 2 weeks is for plasma in Aus, full blood donations are longer. They don't give you saline though, so maybe that's the difference

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Work to live, don't live to work.

4 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 1

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sadly, many people need that extra 12 hours just to live.

4 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

Can't live if you work, can't live if you don't. Conclusion? Kill all bosses.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

See? Video games do make us violent. And the boomers were right to be worried about it.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Fuckin why isn’t this upvoted more?!?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I found a job that lets me do my 3rd favorite thing and still have time for my 1st, at the cost of my 2nd.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll let my Mom know it's the jobs fault she's #2 :)

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I used to be like that, but then I realized I liked being at home more than time-and-a-half

4 years ago | Likes 331 Dislikes 4

I get double time on set days... Makes it hard

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If I don't work 12 hours overtime every week I can't afford rent or to feed my family.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I used to be like that now I am over middle age and always in pain.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I rather appreciate that my job refunds time-in-lieu instead of overtime. Doesn’t feel like I’m trading my free time for money.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same specially once I saw how much they took out in taxes

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same, unfortunately the company could assign mandatory OT per the 'needs of the business' aka (we don't wanna hire more people)

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah they can fuck right off with mandatory OT

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I get $400 if I work an extra shift, it's taken my a long to to learn how to turn that down

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

$400 for one shift? Shoot man, that’s more than half my weekly check

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sometime, money is too expensive.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

The few times they've offered overtime at my job, they only offer a 6th day instead of just longer shifts. I never take it.

4 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

/a/0s0visF retail schedule, it's total legal and you get no extra pay or anything ?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For me I just end up getting a bunch of OT without being scheduled, since sometimes I get stuck on a project and end up staying after

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

They offer me 7 day weeks with a few doubles sprinkled in.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At one of the places I worked they had some people that did 6 12s. They were all so bitter and after a while working 5 10s it got to me too.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The work culture in America is so fucking toxic.

4 years ago | Likes 1148 Dislikes 21

Then I get noted as not being a team player when I don't volunteer.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I work for an American company (I'm in Canada) and the conference calls in the morning are fucking cringe. Gordon gecko fetish shit

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's why I went from working 6 days a week to 4 days now

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I worked for a company that told everyone that they only care about money and that we should feel honored to work there.....

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's at least refreshingly honest, while still being toxic.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it's trash, i can't even imagine the people working the 996 schedule

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What is this 996 schedule ? Nine hours of sleep, nine hours of personal time and lunch and commute, six hours of work ? /s

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah yeah yeah. y’all want that time and a half tho?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Especially considering how much vacation time other modern countries are given… and then there’s us.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I mean unless its forced, people just want that extra money hard to refuse despite being tired

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well, $300 for 12 hours is $25 per hour, right, right ?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It really is. Management: let's save money on staffing by just handing out overtime!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It really is. Coming out of the army into work. Lets just say the military was less stressful than this shit.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

OT is the only way I can make more than my bills. I hate it. I make 14/hr and have a roommate.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Think of it as competitive.....

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 28

get out of here corporate goon!

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

We can still be competitive and not work obsessed. What if we competed over who volunteered the most hours at the shelters?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What and miss a promotion?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Give up my Guatemalan maid!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Been picking up a bunch OT and that's been going on for quite a while, now my lifestyle has adjusted to require it

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

America? Gtfoh last time I was in a factory I took every scrap of over time I could get. That shit was time and a half or more

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

And less productive.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just wait till you're salary and don't get OT anymore but are expected to work even more hours

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Or you work in a field like software development where they can legally not pay extra for OT

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

https://20somethingfinance.com/american-hours-worked-productivity-vacation/ We are the most overworked developed nation on the planet.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup I work 40 in a very high physical job they said work a Xtra 10 11 hour get a 500$ bonus

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agree

4 years ago | Likes 227 Dislikes 3

I e been working two jobs for so long, I forget to take a day off every other month. Also being a dad with no spouse. Fucking kills you.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Right there with you. 2 jobs taking over weekdays and weekends. Last day off was Fourth of July. My next day off is Labor Day

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's ironic because I'm guessing one way or another you'll still end up doing some form of labor

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I haven’t had a labor day in almost a decade now. March 2023 would be 1 decade without vacation, or acknowledge day off I don’t do errands.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy shit. I’m a new dad with just one job and a spouse. I feel exhausted all. the. Fucking. time. I feel for ya, man. Best of luck.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks man.. I hope you a great and happy life.. experience the little things for me..

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I turned down OT recently and my supervisors response was "what? You don't like money?" I have plenty and I value my time away more, thanks.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I love my overtime. They will also let u bank that time and have extra days off.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Substitute teacher here, it is horrible. It feels worse than previous semesters.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

it is not a work culture, it is a "low wages culture" that forces people to do/accept to work overtime to survive and pay the bills.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

They're the same picture

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's definitely not limited to low wages though

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It’s true, but when you are fearful of a huge medical bill around every corner - there is NEVER enough in savings.

4 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 2

Savings? Wtf is... savings?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At the same time you can't ruin your body so bad that you end up spending that money you were saving.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Gee, it's almost like that's by design! Hard to keep people working endless slave hours without the threat of loss of life and property.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Canada too man it feels like all anyone cares about is how much time you spend working. It's killing me on the inside.

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Yup, I lost my day off because of forced OT. I’m pissed, my girlfriend doesn’t understand because “it’s more money”

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There's no appropriate dollar value on my time, only ones I must accept so I can continue to play this stupid fucking game.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I feel you, I spend too much time keeping it real, and not enough time keeping it unreal, if you get me.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

OT is not an American thing, in France I've done a lot of unpaid OT under the "cadre" status which is supposed to be for people 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

With a lot of responsibilities who could "manage their own schedule" but it has been exploited by companies who gave that status to 2/3

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Everybody just to not have to deal with their OT and who were to young and naive to realise they were getting frakked (like me) 3/3

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This status is supposed to come with a salary that reflects it but it often doesn't. This time is behind me now but I did that for 10 years.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I mean most of us are poor too. So there's that

4 years ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 1

Surely a coincidence!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I not sure many Americans know what POOR really is......travel

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure you know what it means either. When Americans reference being poor, they are referring (rightly so) to their financial state

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I won’t waste my time further

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In comparison to the rest of the country. Being unable to afford the minimum lifestyle provided by your country means being poor. That does

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not detract from the impoverished in other countries that are worse off. However, just because someone else has it worse does not mean that

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not as work-obsessed as Japan at least.

4 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

You mean Japan that works an average 1,738hrs/year while the US only works 1,757? https://clockify.me/working-hours

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Well fuck.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think certain industries in Japan have "death march" hours but most dont.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

U.K. we work 40hrs a week, 40x52=2080. With 6 weeks off average includes that’s 1840 hours. So that 1738 figure is suspect tbh (I think)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So I feel that’s not the true number, maybe that’s contracted hours and does include unpaid overtime etc. That’s my hours and it ain’t much

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it is per capita, so total work hours/everyone, not just workers. So includes students, retirees, part timers, people on disability, etc.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn, didn’t know that…we really do have a toxic work climate

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you check the source you can see that both US & Japan worked a lot more in the 80’s, Japan was much higher but dropped more. Of course

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The important question isn’t just hours worked, but the quality. Productivity has doubled, so twice as much gets done in the same span.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
