There was a birb in our satellite dish that did this...in to the the mouths of my 3 dogs. She learned after the 3rd baby birb.

it usually depends on how long a species lives for and if they're a mamal, like bears, humans, and whales all take care of the young

because they have smaller litter sizes where as rats have huge litters so they don't feel the need to watch after them
