Most modern systems only give you 4-5 attempts before locking. Guessing a password hasn't really been an issue in a long time.
I'm 99% certain he got phished, and it was probably something absolutely dumb like that Netflix phish bc he probably signed up to Netflix with his work email.
Doesn't take much to make those emails look legit, our company sends us impressive fake phishing attacks. Sometimes I can only tell bc they don't generate the "external email" message XD
