Been welding aluminum 4 years (boat docks), finished tech school with a degree and still love it. This stuff takes years to get to perfect!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"PLAAAASSMMAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah no. Still not messing with the molten metal.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Drafter here, no matter how much we Google or cry to visit shop/site, we rarely get to see welding in action. Priceless, even if animated.

They make me mig with C02. It’s been two months, I’m still pining for 85/15

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s really amazing...& super scary to the untrained person watching.

My instructor’s words on globular transfer: “Honestly, regardless of what anyone says, I would not use this.”

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah pretty much. It's such a specific heat range. Pretty much short circuit and spray transfers are where it's at.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My instructor felt the same way. I've never seen or heard about anyone using it since I was in school.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That last one is my grommet after Taco Bell.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

third from last is the clearest photo of MIG glob transfer I've ever seen. Anyone got high res for spray transfer?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the plasma cloud is the tell-tale sign of spray transfer. Highest heat MIG transfer method

Quarter inch fillet weld if I ever saw one

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

More of a dime inch fillet weld.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Nah those welds are a dime a dozen.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought so too when I started a welding career. I mostly spend my days grinding minor inconsistencies out of welds because I didn't have

Good enough access to lay a flawless weld to start with. Starting to get sick of it

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

The problem is there isn't such a thing as a flawless weld. Went to college for it and my teacher said we will never get a 100 in the shop

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because it's impossible to make a weld deserving one

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't be bitter, get better

BF had a similar experience. He'd been a welder for like 12 years, just gave it up about 2 years ago in favor of trucking and loves it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its rough to get into the field. Most community colleges have decent welding courses. Be wary of trade schools.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I got in through the union, am a 3rd year apprentice and turn out next year. I hear so much but I want to see for myself

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I only went through vocational at my highschool but it was still misleading. I'm 5yrs in now. It isn't a bad job, but perfection rarely

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Oh ok. Hope you can use it as a stepping stone to better!

Machinist here. Jump ship every 2-3 years. Learn new stuff. Network with high end guys. Get that wage up. Don't be stagnant.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

recently minted CNC Machinist. I just started a new job (last one was a button pushing gig) and I am learning SO MUCH but it is stressing

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Happens when working on industrial stuff. Grind it til it's good is just a part of it if you do top level work and I don't really like that.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

A grinder and paint make me the welder I ain't.
