This is the Antler Restraunt & Bar in Toronto's west end. The specialise in "game" meats like boar and venison.

For the last 4 days it has been under protest by a group of vegans. (the restaraunt also offers a number of vegetarian/vegan options)

This is the appropriately named owner Chef Michael Hunter

In an act of passive-aggresion only possible by a seasoned Canadian, Chef Michael recently made headlines by wordlessly set up a butcher table in front of the protesters and carving up a venison leg. He later returned with a steak from the deer and ate it silently while staring at them.

I'm actually not a fan of farm raised "game" animals, but I am a fan of annoying pushy vegans like this.

Edit: Front page, wow thanks guys. Please send game recipes and vegan jokes.

"the appropriately named owner Chef Michael Hunter" What else are you gonna do with a first name like Chef?

Can’t you just eat your vegan food and shut the hell up about being vegan? WHO CARES! People can choose what they want to be. Dnt be A-holes

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 5

Okay now tell that to the people who can't just eat their animal flesh and shut the hell up about it. Don't be a-holes.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Fun twist, a new article just said they are overloaded with reservations now. Viral marketing at its best

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

nice publicity stunt right ? cheap to hire a few people for a day, make a sign, and have non-disclosure agreements

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

PSA, most of the protests were about the restaurant serving foie gras, which is based around forcefeeding geese to fatten their livers.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Joke's on the vegan protesters, the publicity they caused and the chef's response will probably increase Antler's patronage a fair bit.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I love this! I'd much rather eat at a place like this than chains who support slaughter houses. Good on 'im!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a straight man, I'd totally bang chef Michael

You are admiring Mike Hunter? Just don't say that you are admiring Mike Hunter out loud. Especially not 3 times in a row quickly.

I'm a dude and agree!! Give this man a hammer and some lightning!!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We need to stop posting grip n grin photos without context and show how much there is to hunting. Being in the outdoors, great food etc...

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

How many times does the same story have to be repeated on FP? At last count for me: 4.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ridiculously good-looking smartass is my fetish.

8 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 3

Once again it all comes down to “don’t be assholes to each other, live and let live.”

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Live and let live is exactly what the vegans are promoting though...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

"Live and let live as long as that life that is similar to us." The difference is the cutoff point for "similar to us"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Does arbitrary difference justify moral devaluation?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

It's a biological fact that we can't, in fact, "live and let live." Something has to die. And as you said, the difference is arbitrary.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If something has to die, does that justify killing any amount of beings regardless of their sentience?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

you could pick this intelligent self aware pig. or you could pick this unfertilized egg which has not and will never have a thought

But game meat is the most environmentally friendly and can help the environment #ImAnEnviromentalBiologist

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 6

What about human game, environmentally speaking?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah humans... the most dangerous game...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the most environmentally friendly

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a very large collection of human game that would better the environment if it was killed and eaten. It's currently in DC.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a vegan EXCEPT game: hunting deer doesn’t have huge C02 footprint, doesn’t waste water, fewer deer=preserves biodiversity along MS river

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It is sensible, environmentally speaking. Still raises ethical dilemmas for me, don't you think?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plus the deer populations are booming because of the decline in predators making most states implement a 2 doe for 1 buck law.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn the owner is hot.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I didn’t hear about this place until vegans started making a scene. Booked a reservation there with some friends to try it out now lol.

8 years ago | Likes 1319 Dislikes 30

Same here. I have always wanted to try venison, but didn't know where to go. :D

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's so FUCKING good!!! Love going there.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One of my fave places in Toronto! Have fun! I need to go back again to support them.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Next time im in toronto im doing the same

8 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 2

This is why i think protesting is stupid. All you do is annoy people and ensure that others dislike you and your cause

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

a friend of mine did put horseshit in front of his reastaurant at night to make it look like he got "attacked" by vegans. PR genius

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

What the actual fuck. Your friend is an asshole. Genius to attack yourself and point the finger at someone else, huh?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

never said pr genuises arent assholes

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hahaha my friends and I did the same thing

I dunno, I just read something pretty bad last night: http://people.com/crime/murder-charges-caleb-schwab-waterslide-decapitation/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really hope the guys business sky rockets because of this.

8 years ago | Likes 304 Dislikes 4

Their business is already booming because of it. Though they were a pretty sweet place before the protest too.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Look up the white moose cafe in Dublin. The exact same thing happened

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

From what I've read, the guy is pretty rude to people, but he's made a ton of money since the incident. I still want to go there

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

When someone puts so much effort into suppressing something, other people start wandering over to see what all the fuss is about

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bitching about it draws attention it wasn’t getting, from what I remember.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Plot twist: the owner hired the vegans as a publicity stunt

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Genius!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was going to suggest the same. I always think that when I see pointless protesting.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This can't be murder because murder is the intentional killing of a human being by another human being with malice aforethought.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Well, yeah. There's also a difficult task, punish someone, be angry with someone, defeat a game opponent or spoil by lack of skill.--

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

--Also, it's a group of crows, but I don't see how any of those definitions apply here.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"to slaugther wantonly", from Merriam-Webster. But the regardless of definitions we can understand what the protesters are getting at 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

2/2 likely that it is killing an innocent sentient creature that didn't want to die. The salad example is inaccurate, and seems dishonest.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Got food poisoning from eating a salad last Saturday, felt like salad was trying to murder me.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Should have made it out of meat.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm going to eat a bunch of broccoli and cauliflower tonight to avenge you.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Revenge is a dish best served with ranch dressing.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We should get married.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Animals are sentient creatures who suffer and are mourned by their peers, is this not what makes the word murder relevant?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

Only some animals mourn their dead and they are mostly respected. But like, chickens? Fuckin psychos. Plus why have plants thorns again?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I agree, but I can still empathise with their use of the word murder, and see how "salad is murder" is invalid satire. The existence of 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

2/2 a self defence mechanism doesn't indicate sentience or moral value.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

What if I told you plants had pheromone comunication so that when one is damaged the others can brace themselves for the impact? Small spark

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm sorry you disagree. If I asked why it would be wrong to kill you, would not many of your reasons apply to non human animals too?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Even if you did place humans and animals at the same level, why complain about us doing what animals do to each other on a daily basis?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Humans also kill humans on a daily basis, does this justify murder?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No, they wouldn't. Murder is killing a human. Animals are not on the same level as humans, socially or ethically.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I would love to hear your reasons then, and who is saying non human animals are on the same level as a human?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

An unlawful killing, specifically. If you're killing people for a government or animals for your table, it's just another day.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This comments section is a fun game of playing spot the vegan!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also a fun game of playing spot the hypocrites with cognitive dissonance.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Curiosity question: is venison nice? I've never had it.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

Tastes a lot like Vegans.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I really like it, but it's a strong taste (especially if it's from a buck in rut). Steaks and roasts are good, but pepperettes are amazing.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

had it once, didn't like it that much, but I guess it really depends on how you prepare it

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Venison tasted weird to me but Deer Jerky is good.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not a fan of "game" meat because it tastes too different...ly from what I'm used to.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Too lean for me.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My favorite kind of meet. It's very lean but cooked right it will blow your mind!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cooked right it’s amazing. Very lean meat.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Amen

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is an issue, but another issue.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They just want him to stop serving foie gras, not to go out of business. Foie gras is produced under insanely cruel conditions.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

The woman in that article literally says she won't be happy until restaurants stop selling all meat.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

*if I were rich* I'd bring in local biker gangs for an all-you-can-eat everyday the protesters were there.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Yeah but then you're stuck with them scaring off your customers

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why? Bikers are some of the most awesomely charitable people you’ll ever meet. Don’t believe everything you see on tv it’s not good for you.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Here’s an example, these guys are awesome: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_Soldiers_MC

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As a small business owner, thank you. It is people like you who keep us going.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I’ll start the changa line, straight through the protesters. “You don’t make friends with salad, you don’t make friends with salad...”

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I’m sure his restaurant is taking off big time because of this

Soon as the people see he's basically what men wish we looked like......

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Apparently the issue they were protesting was not very clearly communicated. Judging by the "MURDERER" sign in the picture.

8 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 1

It was not, none of the signs or sidewalk chalk they were using said anything about it. I Just assumed they hate game meat walking by.

Wow. A good read. Thanks

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't even know what that was until this comment, just read the wiki, it's pretty upsetting, and I'm a man that loves to eat a bird.

8 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 3

Damn, I can pretty much describe myself as 'fois gras', and looking in the mirror, I wouldn't eat me either.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

I love me some meat, but the whole meat industry is upsetting. The birds are only force fed for about 12 - 17 days of their 100 day life.

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

FYI: it CAN be done naturally without force-feeding the animals. It just lowers production and profit so its not done that way often.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

There's a difference between killing something to eat it, and fucking torturing an animal until you kill it.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

Tbh if I had to torture an animal to eat and survive, I would and wouldn't feel bad.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

It's really frigging good.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Which type. there is force fed and then there is the more natural option.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 5

Either one still sounds pretty gross, eating yourself to death until you burst at the seams is a terrible way to go.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 6

Natural as in not force fed sweet corn

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dunno sounds like many humans, I am fat... yet I still eat :/

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

They specifically targeted the restaurant for a sign that said "venison is the new kale." That they also serve foie gras came out later

8 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 18

The best way to protest something is to not patronize the place. Just don't eat it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

my friend is wondering what the ethical version of foie gras is i know but i dont wanna explane it to them

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The ethical kind involves letting the birds fatten themselves up by their own volition as they do just before migrating.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But kale is horrible and needs to stop being a thing, while venison is delicious so I don't understand the comparison.

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 9

I like both, but I guess it means game meat is a new trendy food.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It really never wasn't, at least not in Ottawa: There have been restaurants that have served it for something like 20 years or so.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I like both.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Kale and venison go well together.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Agreed. Kale is an excellent liner for the green bin, keeps the ants off the venison bones.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Had deep-fried kale a couple times, was surprisingly good

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kale tastes great.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

It does not. It's bitter and tough to chew. Have you tried eating damn near anything else? Lettuce, broccoli, peas, beans, carrots? all good

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

So he *does* serve fois gras? That’s a bit much, even for me. I’m out.

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 6

Damn, I can pretty much describe myself as 'fois gras', and looking in the mirror, I wouldn't eat me either.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

You don't have to order it. In fact, if you visit the restaurant and buy something else, you could contribute to them getting rid of it.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

If a bunch of people go and avoid the fois gras, it's possible they will get rid of it in favor of more popular/profitable options.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Dont order it then

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Does anyone know if its natural fois gras or force-fed fois gras?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is such thing as ethical fois gras but I've no idea which kind this place serves

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

ethically making a ducks liver swell and force feeding it food because it wouldnt naturally eat that much...do explain ?

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Ps. I don't actually eat foie. Just love food so I read about it a lot

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

There is one small farm in Spain making ethical foie, versus 23,000 tons per year made unethically everywhere else.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I thought there was also a spot in California?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There is also so called 'ethical foie' made in the USA, where rubber tubes are used instead of steel to scratch the throats less

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The ONLY argument I support is an environmental one, we should eat LESS meat, doesnt mean you shouldn't eat it at all

8 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 6

I pretty much agree. It is far more efficient on the overall environment to eat less meat.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I agree. Also my own experience is that less meat is better for my body.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why less?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And we overproduce and waste a LOT of meat and "non-edible" bits to supply the current demand for large amounts of meat. The amount of

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

food waste from grocery stores alone is terrifying and sickening. But people have to have what they want always available and we contribute

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

to supply and food waste.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It takes a huge amount of resources to grow livestock and get it to your table, but an only veg industry also has a huge impact

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So sticking to 2-3 portions of meat a week would be a relatively healthy balance, the world is over populated for the food supply we have

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At this point its either a case of making changes or we'll be om soylent green in a few decades

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

non-commercial hunting fishing are better for the environment than large scale plant agriculture.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 5

As someone whos never hunted and only been fishing a few times, I totally agree.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And yet, large scale plant agriculture is used just to feed the large scale cattle industry. Hunting and fishing wouldnt be good if every1/

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Person that wanted meat did it. I agree that hunting and fishing is healthy for you and the env but not as an ult alternative to all meat.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hunting and fishing on a scale comparable to how much industrial agriculture produces? Really?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

What??

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they're proposing replacing industrial agriculture, which feeds billions, with local hunting and fishing. Enough to also feed billions

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

No theyre not.. someone hunting and feeding himself is less damaging and more natural than turning huge areas of countryside to growone crop

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I concur with the other user: What?? I think you a word or two.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

the thing is it takes up land, less land for agriculture means more land for the environment.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

yes, it takes up land, and uses it very efficiently to feed billions.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

just saying is how it is comparable. the environment can ether support a natural environment with game or a large farm.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Would just like to mention that they serve foie gras. Which you don't have to be vegan to be against. Protest against THAT instead.

8 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 12

But it's fucking delicious!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

So is raping, I guess.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They are doing, specifically. And someones taken their picture of them doing so. All the text above is OP's anti-vegan circlejerk bullshit

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 6

I would never protest foie gras, it's amazing.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

I've never had it and I generally don't like liver, but I'd be willing to try it just out of protest.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

You can also protest against the cruel and unethical treatment of battery raised meats as well.

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 1

I for one love options and a varied diet with the option to indulge local dishes without worry. So, veganism is out the window for me.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I would love to eat guinea pig that had just been squeaking away merrily in some grass filled pen... Just don't butcher it infront of me.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The hell

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Steppes staple. Guinea pigs are essentially smaller rabbits and are efficient feed-protein converters. I'm just saying I'd love to eat one.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But to be honest there is no industrial meat well treated, even out of batteries and feed lots.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What is foie gras?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Duck or goose liver. They force feed both animals and restrict their movement. Force feeding sometimes leads to their stomachs bursting or

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

tearing, which leads to a painful and slow death. This is, of course, a French thing. Sigh.

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 4

Damn, I can pretty much describe myself as 'fois gras', and looking in the mirror, I wouldn't eat me either.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

It's not a "french" thing it was a "ruling class wanted more than we could produce naturally" thing. That's how the current method started.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just wanna say that I bought a duck straight from an open French farm in France and the liver was naturally fatty and intact inside the 1/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/animal. I toured his entire farm and there was nothing unethical going on. The ducks were roaming freely

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, that's fucking horrible.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

It CAN be done naturally without harm or stress to the animals. Its a much less mass producible and therefore more expensive option.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's why it's outlawed in pretty much every European country except France. They think it's cool.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Not to mention liver is just nasty and tastes like unscented brown crayons

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There are brands that do it ethical, letting the birds eat as much as they want on their own. Expensive of course since the livers are small

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

This is important information that people need. Its possible to have amazing fois gras WITHOUT harming the animals. Support this idea.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're describing industrial foie gras you transparent french hating jackass. Which is terrible like pretty much any industrial-animal food

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

My own Godfather and his wife produce foie gras. The ducks live free, they have a huge land and lake for themselves

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Can we NOT hate on French-Haters here? Hate on foie gras or not, but don't stop me from hating the French, it's tradition!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Too bad it's in Canada, I want to go there now

8 years ago | Likes 225 Dislikes 14

Road trip?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I sincerely wish I could

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Been there a few times, if it ever visit, I highly recommend it.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I mean, we don't have a wall, so feel free to come up when you have some time.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We share a 9,000km border with minimal security. 22 million Americans visit Canada each year and the US is our top tourist destination.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I just don't have the time or money right now to take a meaningful vacation

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unless you have a DUI. Then no Canada for you.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm going next week. Let you know how it is

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

steak with dots of sauce and some cabbage and fries

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you, I'll hold you to that

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't regularly "Dot" a comment, but when I do I am intrested in the outcome.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is it near Niagra Falls by any chance? (I'm too lazy to Google it) I'm going in a few weeks.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can take an hour long train to Niagara. You can do Niagara in an afternoon, unless you really want to go to weird museums/casinos

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

About 2 hours. Quite different cities though

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude Toronto is an amazing city. Highly recommend it. It has everything like new York, but doesn't smell.

8 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 4

The Mayor's a dork / they dress real stupid / and they think they're New York. https://youtu.be/iRjurRdep_Q

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

"amazing" "doesn't smell"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Never been to New York City either for that matter, there's quite a few places I want to see in Canada though

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I live like a 10 minute walk from the resteraunt, can confirm, no smell

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Whereabouts in the city is it?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dufferin and Dundas! West end.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and a sea of cocaine, just ask the former mayor.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well it does on the two days farmers from up north all do their manure spreading day. then it smells of poop here for a bit

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Worst case Ontario.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Its okay, just dont try driving there

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

This guy. This guy right here

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

More like don't go through Buffalo. I go above lake Ontario and it's just fine.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As much.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Well it is a city.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can confirm, lived in T.O. briefly, been to NYC before it got pussified. NYC definitely smells of piss, TO smells of armpit & shawarma.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Habibi...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah Amin.. Garlic Bubblewrap soup... it must punish my upper and lower colon, and don't spare the turnip.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would anyone go to Toronto when Vancouver exists? West coast is best coast.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 15

Incorrect. East coast is best coast.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ah yes.. Vancouver. From the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh sníchim word meaning "Costs 5 times as much it would in Toronto"

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

It's worth it to be that much further away from Quebec.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Quebec is pretty great, but if you want to stay away, then please, do. :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

100times more than montreal.. 67% of population below 34.. mucho mucho party! And the women!! Dam dont get me started

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I still like Montreal, fuck it, I'm over 40, it was a great city back in the day, and still pretty awesome.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's the end game put one guy out of business? Deer need managing anyway so is it better to use the meat or throw it away.

8 years ago | Likes 1448 Dislikes 27

Nature is astoundingly more ruthless than a (well-placed) rifle bullet.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The protesters just made this restaurant more world-famous than most Michelin-starred restaurants, so it's safe to say that's an epic fail.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The amount of people who will avoid it due to agreeing with the protesters will be far outweighed by all the extra custom this get them.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He isn’t going out of business, they just gave him tons of free publicity, he’s probably busier than ever.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

His reservations have skyrocketed now. Hahaha

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Plot twist: he hired the vegans as a "false flag".

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

anything to spite people that dont eat animals

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Probably more a case of any publicity is good publicity. This restaurant became world famous overnight because of these protesters.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Anything to spite people who think they have a right to tell US we can't eat animals.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Read the protest leader would scale back the protesting if the restaurant offered less meat options and more vegetarian options. Owner (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

...countered with an offer to take them on one of his foraging expositions. No response. (2/2)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The solution is more wolves. More wolves is always the solution.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

my "headcanon" on people like them, is that they have way too much spare time. no job, no real hobbies, and so their brain goes full retard.

8 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 3

Pure prejudice. They fight for what they think is just. What do you fight for?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Mayans tore people’s hearts out...they thought it was just.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The good thing with such relativism is that it also invalidates everything you say. Super effective.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not really, they thought it was just, but it really wasn’t. Killing people for some imaginary god? Come on...same with those hippies ->

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad once told me that in the 60's they were called "credit card hippies": well-off parents paid for everything.

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Never go full retard

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

you're just gonna admit its purely imagination like that?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is farmed "game".

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not real game apparently.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Like they have an end game...People just complain to complain, especially if you're different than them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The end game would be to end game, no?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"But meat is murder and the animals die when you kill and eat them"

8 years ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 4

At least the animal is dead before it is eaten. Salad is murder too! Salad is murder too!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Then I poop them out, that fertilizes the grass, and they eat the grass. Cue the Lion King: Circle of Life!

8 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

I hope so. Wouldn't want a deer running around in my stomach...

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You forgot "... and they wouldn't die otherwise because animals in the wild are immortal"

8 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 1

This applies to human killing you know

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Exaxtly ;)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yes let the wink mask using dumb logic

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

How are you assume an animals finality.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

How are you sir. HOW ARE YOU??

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

OH NO. I did not catch my mistake. Fuck.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

On top of these good points, hunters try to target the eldest males in the pack who have already reproduced many times in their life.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pure rhetorics. Vegans know animals die and kill each other.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

"But the animals are people too!" Is basically their mindset.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No shit sherlock.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Easy target, they dont want to push around Mcdonald who pushes 1000s of tons of meat everyday, cos..you know, their legal division.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Man, don't even joke about Mc.... Just don't.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's not the protestor's were specifically asked that question and they literally said he's the easier target (1/)

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

'Meat'

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are so many deer out there, it could possible replace cow.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The way they see it is that big chains won't listen to them, but small businesses might

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

I don’t think they do these things to change the mind of the business owner but rather that of prospective patrons

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They've said outright that it's the mind of the owner they want to change.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They also stated outright that they chose this restaurant BECAUSE it's small

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Right, because they are more likely to be able to change the owner's mind if the owner is there.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey that's kind of like the US military industrial complex...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imho from stuff I have read some if not many of these vegan and environment groups view humanity as a plauge and want to force us backward

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 4

You should read other stuff.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds like PETA. They're not pro-animal, they're anti-human. Not the same thing.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No you havent

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

there's nowhere to go back to though, it's more like going sideway

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Into teepees and crap so that we can't hurt mother nature anymore. But they also want to protect nature from doing what it naturally does

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

teepees are covered with hide

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Aka small forest fires, game predatation, and other such "dark side" of nature. This results in larger/worse Forest fires, and deforestation

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

By swelling herbivore herds, which results in mass erosion etc. etc. And the circle of life gets all screwy. But hey it's all mankinds fault

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yep, there are several kinds of environmentalism indeed. But most of them include humankind in their notion of sustainability.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In Canada you can't actually serve wild caught game in restaurants except in Newfoundland

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Quebec did a thing for a while where it granted some licenses to restaurants. PDC was serving squirrel etc

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TIL there's enough meat on a squirrel to bother with the effort of getting it.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've not tried but I've heard squirrel is pretty decent. Kind of like a snack.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kill 5-6 squirrels, skinning is easy, and if you cook them slow in a crockpot they’re awesome. Tough meat if you don’t do it right though.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So all these people talking about deer regulation etc. actually eat farmed deers? Oh the irony.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or they hunt for and eat their own deer. But in the context of this restaurant yeah it's just farmed deer

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sure, I was just talking about the patrons of this restaurant and those who defend it with this argument.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're not trying to put him out of business, they want him to stop serving foie gras, which is produced in insanely cruel conditions.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Source?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

when i had seen this on twitter a few days ago there was a few articles on it. they all said that was the issue. ill see if i can dig it up

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was reading some other comments on here about it as well. Didn't know what foie grad was till just now looking it up. Not cool.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

found some source https://www.blogto.com/eat_drink/2018/03/antler-restaurant-vegan-protest-toronto/ seems it is that and the use of farmed

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not a vegan or animal rights activist but I don’t think they need managing. Without humans nature would take care of it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Your conception of nature is a bit flawed. Nature is not a God, just a human concept.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Nature as in starving to death? Without the wolf population they need a predator. You would like to see them suffer? You are a monster!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Humans are nature.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Without predation, herds outgrow sustainable numbers and a die off begins through disease and starvation. A balance could be reached 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

but there would be more suffering. Also, herd pop. could swing past optimal equilibrium where good hunt practices could prevent that. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Guess you’re right, the grizzly and wolf population is so low, maybe we should focus on beinging those back up.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

The reason the wolf population was culled was because ranchers would literally go out of business with a wolf pack nearby. You have to make

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

That is a thought that is tossed around occasionally, but most people don't want predators in their back yard.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Considering predator species can and do sometimes hunt humans, I'd still prefer human controls. And deer is tasty.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Grizzly don"t hunt and wolf population is incompatible in heavy agricultural regions. So artificial control "hunting" works wonders.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This particular place has "game"=farmed deers.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Oh the irony. All these people thinking of them as tough eco-pragmatic men eating wild animals for the good of True Nature ^^

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Well that's because they can't hunt and serve actual game. It's illegal in most of Canada. As far as I know anyways.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hunting is very much legal there, at least.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes but what I mean is they can't go hunt the game and then sell it commercially in a restaurant.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hypothesis: get more people eating game meat, increases public demand for it, more people hunt, less deer/boar overpopulation.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unlikely. People already hunt for offered rewards if it's a "problem species". I think this is just dickwads harassing a business.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You'd be surprised how poorly advertised that is. Local gov't also likes to make it more difficult in a lot of places.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But it's not natural. Other than us no animal has ever killed another in the history of our planet. It just doesn't happen in nature.

8 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 1

On purpose, maybe.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

drink some rope and hang yourself with bleach kind of dumb?

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Yes, same with other animals. So many cow, pig etc species wouldn't exist without the meat industry. There's simply no other use for them.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Pig would. As wild boar anyways. Have you seen what they're doing in the U.S? They reproduce like rabbits. 300lb rabbits.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True, but I was thinking more of that nobody would breed certain species, if there's no demand for the meat.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So nice of you. There would not be black people in America without slave trade. Yet they still complain. They did not even pay for the ride!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

1/Dude, stop putting black people into that. I'm simply talking about economics - offer and demand...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That the parallel makes you feel bad is legitimate... and intended. Don't understand the supply and demand argument.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/what do you think would happen to the majority of cows, if nobody would want meat/milk? Is there a point in mass breeding them anymore?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3/ it might be sad that they die in the end, but a lot of humans eat meat, other animals eat meat - so we breed to have the meat.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is precisely the point to stop breeding billions of new ones again and again, so I don't understand your point.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
