counterstrike :(

Why?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have been to many LAN parties when I was a teen. This typically was not because of privacy, but the glare/reflections on your monitor catching all the people and lights in the bright room. It was hard to see the game when most are used to playing in a dark room.

Last guy either isnt getting any kills. or cheating like mad

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How can people this into gaming who are this obsessed with screen blocking not know about monitor privacy screens? You can buy ones that clip on for like $40 on Amazon, and then you don't have to look absolutely fucking insane and/or destroy your posture like some sort of gaming gremlin.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

With everyone literally glued to their screens, do they seriously think someone will take eye off their prize to cheat? (the answer is yes)

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn, I thought they were supposed to be working.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How we have to watch porn in Florida

1 year ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Don't forget the VPN.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At that point I'd just bring one of those really curved monitors and keep it close.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess they've never heard of partitioning screens, like in office workplaces?

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Right??

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I guess dividers are too expensive for the venue?!

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lol, as a gamer. even my friends and I didnt take it this srs when we did halo lan parties when I was a kid! I had the biggest TV so I'd split with people a lot. Are these people getting paid? or they just sweaty players? Why not just use one of these.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

back in my time if you got caught they would just toss you out the lan uncle phil style so you better have a good case because that thing will get some airtime.

Back in college, we made a cardboard divider to prevent screenwatching in Goldeneye. It worked until we started using audio clues for where each other worked (e.g., timing between doors opening or ammo pickups).

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe they should just switch to circle tables or cubicles??

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel like any advantage you gain by preventing screen peeking is lost by being distracted by the uncomfortable environment of playing under a blanket etc.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t game that hard to warrant all this bullshit.

1 year ago | Likes 194 Dislikes 5

what a flex

1 year ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 9

I’m C tier at best in pvp arenas. It is really hard for me to care enough about my 3:1 kd ratio to make myself more uncomfortable to play a game.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

You can't really see the screen if you're taped to the ceiling too.

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I understood that reference...

I want you to see what I'm doing. GAZE UPON IT!

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Remember playing Goldeneye, and all 4 players had access to everyone's information and we just free-balled chaotically based on the honor system, and everyone cheated and we were kinda fine with it because what're ya gonna do?

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I loved prox mines specifically for that reason. You'd have to social-engineer distractions to get them placed. Or just taunt the AF while barricaded behind mined corridors.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We played with airsoft next to our PCs. Cheaters would be shot irl.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But did they notice you shot the shield many times to move the spawn location under the stairs?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It depends on how well you know the levels. If you all know the levels really well then you know where each other are. It's only a huge disadvantage if the game owner has it all memorized and invites a noob over.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If by "fine with it" you mean, you look to the side and your "friend" catches you looking he'll punch you in the arm, then yes, I do remember.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well sure! It was gonna happen, someone was gonna get upset, you were gonna do it again anyway because what other option is there, everyone passes out from Dr. Pepper overdoses an hour later. Good times!

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Last guy giving himself crippling eye and neck strain definitely takes the cake

1 year ago | Likes 317 Dislikes 0

Which one?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Even worse when he finds out they've been lying about the cake

*A few years later* I may be crippled now, but I flipping owned that match.

I'm surprised that the monitor viewing angles are that good. My monitor would look discolored and washed out from the angle

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

IPS mo itors have an extra wide viewing angle like that, and a lot of the new monitors use it or have nearly as good viewing angles now with other types of screens.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The polarized cellphone screens are likely the cheapest / smartest solution here. But they have full screen polarized ones as well.

1 year ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 2

I’m a bit slow so that’s the one that made me realize it’s all a joke

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea, my work has privacy screen protectors. They've been around for at least 10 years.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

definitely better than whatever the fuck screen pointed at the desk guy is doing

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The smartest solution would have been the place doing this building privacy panels in.. something you could easily raise/lower. Then it can be moved with them as needed. You having to bring your own solution is just stupid.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Cheapest, but also may ruin the monitor— they're meant to be on glass screens, not LCD/OLED panels. They have different tensile strengths and breakage force points, and then there's the strength of the adhesive on the protector itself. All together (especially considering the number of protectors on that screen), the amount of force that'd be required to remove them would most assuredly crack the monitor's panel, makeing the whole procedures cost far more as you've DEFINITELY ruined the monitor

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

What screen protectors are you using for literally anything that would have that strong of an adhesive..?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I think smarter and cheaper would be to put blankets over the heads of the people to either side of you.

1 year ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

"Night-night you parrot motherfucker"

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Having tried it back in the days. It's a fucking sweat tent and sucks in long games or matches.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cheaper than a blanket? Or tilting your screen down as far as you can?

1 year ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

well...maybe not cheaper, but less stupid

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Polarised privacy screens should be standard in an internet cafe.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

The medical bills to take care of the eye strain and neck problems do add up.

1 year ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

I dunno. That looks like a civilized nation with universal healthcare, not a backwards dystopian nightmare like the US.

Source: I'm from and live in the US.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But, my friend does not get it. Care to explain ?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

so those things she is putting on the screen or mobile phone polarizing film. essentially they block you visuals unless you look at the screen head on so sitting at an angle would make the screen look dark and hidden. they make ones specifically for moniters. but the best and cheapest solution.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bold of you to assume there are any women there

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah ok. Thanks mate

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd leave my screen wide open, thus way when I lose I can blame everyone around me like a real gamer

1 year ago | Likes 558 Dislikes 2

Exactly. How else can you also smash your monitor with your keyboard like a well adjusted teenager

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As is custom

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This is the way.

Gotta go fast, through your digestive tract.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

can someone explain why this privacy is so important here ?

1 year ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 3

No siblings eh?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They may be playing against each other, so looking at someone else's screen gives away their location.

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Porn.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

screen cheating

1 year ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 1

Clearly youve never played goldeneye or local halo multiplayer

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They probably don’t have computers at home.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

well duh. they are incentivized to go to PC bangs (PC cafe) you get extras just for playing there. its actually super unfair to the rest of the world. and yea they do have strict limits on kids and at home gaming.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it...isn't, not really. While reaction times are extremely important in counterstrike, and knowing where people are via screen peeking would help, the distraction of playing in an uncomfortable environment cancels it it out.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So the other team can't look at your screen to see where you're hiding.

1 year ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Team ? Isn't that an individual game ?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You must be young! 😄

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

I wish lol

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Or old.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

i mean...this game is nearly thirty years old soooo....

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks like they're playing CS:GO? If you're familiar with the game you'd understand how someone peeking your POV can be a major concern.

1 year ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 1

I've killed my brother many times like that playing America's Army back in the day

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would think one would generally play like complete shit with their monitor pointed at their desk, but I'm just a filthy casual who likes to view my screen from its normal direction, so what do I know?

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I'd imagine this is true, any advantage you get preventing screen peeking is lost by playing at such a weird angle and being distracted by neck pain.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They’re playing a first-person shooter game where the goal is to eliminate each other’s characters. If you can sneak up on an opponent, spot them first and open fire, or find a good sniper’s nest, you gain a significant advantage. However, if your opponents can see your screen, they’ll know your location on the map, negating your advantage and potentially allowing them to sneak up on you or take a better position.

1 year ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

thx

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You're welcome. And for added context - casual players generally don't need this kind of privacy. So even if you've played these kind of games before, you likely have not encountered this. Say we're playing a game like this, and I catch a glimpse of your character somewhere on your screen - I probably have no idea where they are. But skilled players, and/or those who have spent countless hours with a game, memorize the maps and are able to identify where other players are by their surroundings.
