There is a machine that can estimate your refractive error, but it's not as accurate as testing with the lenses. It's not a quiz where you're trying to guess the "correct" answer to get a perfect score. The optician is trying to hone in on your exact correction values. If you can't tell a difference, say so. If you're unsure, say so. Don't just guess something or try to answer what you think the optician wants to hear.
