Ahh, my favorite game, Character Creation!

Spend three hours designing your character, then slap a helmet on it for the entire game. Like a champ!

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Out of all the challenges this is indeed the toughest. Do you self insert and make a character that looks like you? Do you make a character that fits into the world or an utterly flamboyant being? How deep is the character creator, can I change appearances later or am I locked in? What class am I going to play!? Aaagh what do i name them!

One day I'll beat that part of BG3... (starts the game) Naaah I don't like that look.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I swear I spent a long time on Baldurs Gate 3 character just for the background song.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I usually spend at least 4 hours on this but I love every moment of it. I *want* to customize my character. I want it to be deep and detailed. And I want there to be options to change it later because I *know* I will not be 100% satisfied after a few hours of playing the game lol

Probably in the minority here, but I HATE games with the insane character creation. If I have to spend more then 5-10 minutes creating my character's look, I'm already doubting if I even want to play the game. I buy a game to play a game.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It should be mandatory that character creators give you a code for the settings you have chosen so you can recreate the character later. or easily exchange builds on the internet... (or get some celebrity build)

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Dragons Dogma 2 had ke stuck over an hour

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

TBH, I'm not big into the heavy customization. After a couple of tweaks - especially the hair - I tend to gloss over the rest because I'm usually impatient to get into the game.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Maybe it's just because I don't spend that long in character creation but goddamn does this tired joke get beat to fucking death.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

These days I just hit "randomize" until I get something that looks good.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They finish designing, and naming, the character only to then play the game in first-person view.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously though, watching your bestie play video games can be amusing too.

One of the most important things to tell a new BG3 player is "Very early on, you'll get a way to freely edit your character's look as often as you like, and stat respecs are easy too. So go ahead and PLAY."

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And then the game defaults to first-person view.

2 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

Least favorite part of games. I usually end up hitting the randomize button a half dozen times and if it looks halfway decent it’s good enough for me.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is why when I play a new Fallout 4 game, I reload from my first save outside the vault. I don't really care what my character looks like because you really don't see them very often while playing.

When BG3 came out my neighbor across the street spent like 8 hours customizing his character (not creeping, I swear we both have apartments with big windows). I was playing it too and I got up to grab a drink and noticed his tv. Later every time I got up I saw he was still building his character. And it’s not like he just left it on the screen and went and did something else. Every time I saw it the character was different.

So true

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I went back to the new free to play version of City of Heroes and was indulging in my nostalgia. I spent three hours in the character creator and then half an hour playing before I called it a night

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Try champions online. The customising is even better.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was mostly playing it for the nostalgia, as I used to play CoH / CoV back when it was still live with NC Soft. Lots of nostalgia for that game, but you can definitely see the cracks when compared against modern experiences. Still a fun trip down memory lane tho

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Saw that joke coming from a mile away. It's gotten to the point where I just choose the race for attributes and randomize everything else so I can get on the road.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This was me making a Hrothgar woman in the FFXIV Benchmark (cobbled together screenshots from various people online)

I like the void kitty in the lower left.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They still haven't added chocoboborns?

"Whew. That's done. Oh wait, what name do I choose?"

2 years ago | Likes 330 Dislikes 0

Nah, it's a modern rpg, it will crash right before the autosave.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Wait, that name doesn't really fit with my character's looks/style... Let's start again with customization"

Spoompls

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Close your eyes, hit one letter, then another. Add vowel sounds in between. Repeat if necessary.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hands down the hardest part for me

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“ what do you mean, already taken?”

2 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

this gave me some sort of anxiety

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If the character wields an oversized sword, the only appropriate name is Biggus Dickus.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Depends, is there a profanity filter?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Azura of course. :P

There’s always either too many options or not enough options

2 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

or both! lots of options for one race and not enough options for another

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've always found the minuscule choices odd when there is an excessive variety of one but not another; like 16 variety of noses but only three eye colors.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

You can choose from 25 different hairstyles but you can only have black or blonde hair

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Tiny octopus is stuck on this boss in Baldur's Gate 3. Seriously. SO MANY OPTIONS!

2 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 5

I want more

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I've never played BG3 but I too struggled with this so a long time ago I decided if there was a Random button I would hit that and live with what I ended up with. I've gotten some interesting looking characters.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Spam "randomise" until it either doesn't look too ugly… or look so completely ugly that it is hilarious.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I wanted to play as a Dragonborn. Went throgh so many options. Ended up using the white Durge because it was the one I liked best after all.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My biggest problem is not being able to save all the ideas I have, for later. So frustrating.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

im stick stuck on the wallet boss of being able to afford a pc that can play it

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can also get fully nude and adjust...other character components

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

The most DEVASTATING part of the character creation...and the reason I didn't get the game. I watched my husband spend SEVEN HOURS trying to copy himself down to the little dark spots on it...

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In the 4 months after Balder's Gate 3 was released players spent a combined total of over 8196 years in character creator which was 16% of the total play time.

2 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 0

had to make a thing. Jfc

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Which is hilarious because as far as character creators go, BG3's is middle-of-the-road.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wat

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know it takes up a high percentage of my playtime in the game.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Full release or early access? Because if it's full release, the actual time is probably skewed even more heavily towards character creation. A lot of us just figured out what we were doing during EA.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

That was from Larians report on 5th December 2023 so 4 months after PC release and 3 months after PS5. The tweet started with " Since our launch in August..." so it looks like it does not include early access

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

…a sentient wheel of cheese?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

true polymorph is one hell of a drug

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes. Mild spoilers, it doesn't last very long. I was hoping to be able to play the rest of the game as a cheese wheel.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just please no actual sliders. I will never beat character creation if there are real sliders. You can dress up your menu as a slider, but don't let me change things pixel by pixel.

2 years ago | Likes 164 Dislikes 1

My fave with that was Fallout 4. I just... tweaked each slider once, going for what I found attractive. And after a lot of fiddling, I couldn't do better than the default female. My hubby was this really sweet, vaguely middle-eastern guy. Aaaand then the plot happened. ;_;

Ahh... wound up romancing Curie because I am severely weak vs french accents and brains. Good game for my bi-ass XD

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Spends two hours customizing the perfect recreation of my fiancee as my character in fallout 4* first cutscene shows a side view and oh gods why what have I done!?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Preach. Dragon Age Inquisition did this and creation literally will take 30-60 min because of being able to physically mould every microscopic detail of the person, which then looks immediately different in the intro scene.

2 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 0

Best is if you have pose changer(including movement and talking things that will be most prevalent in the game) and a background light changer.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

SO many games, I swear, the character creator is using a completely different engine to the rest of the game! They never look right in both.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the worst neutral lighting ever conceived by man or demon.

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

I hated the difference between the editor and in-game look. Slightly orangish hair became glowing neon and the face looked so off.

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

30-60 minutes? Those are rookie numbers

Game: Inserts sliders for the size of buttons, shape, luster, color...

I love you, but I hate everything about you.
