Who wants to cry?

Aug 16, 2017 3:33 AM

Watched this for a class in college, everyone in the room professor included was bawling out loud. This is great for a good cleansing cry.

I was promised a cry-fest for this movie, but it didn't make me cry, it just made me really angry.

Not just one of the saddest anime I've seen, but one of the saddest movies I've seen. Period.

The first time I saw this was in my Japanese Film and Theater class in my first year of college. There wasn't a dry eye in the room.

Best and saddest movie ever

This film utterly destroyed me. It hurt me on a level I didn't know existed. 10/10 would recommend. 0/10 would re-watch.

"The best movie I never want to see again," I think, is the way I once put it.

8 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 0

That is the best way to describe it.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Ever seen dear Zachary, I think it's worse

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Saddest fucking thing I've seen.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I agree this is an amazing movie and story. I can honestly say 100% that this movie is the only one to ever bring me close to tears. Amazing

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I tried watching this a few times. I couldn't get into it.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It's the Schindler's List of anime.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Awesome movie. Very sad.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NO. FUCK THAT MOVIE. I'm all down for a good cry movie (hello, Interstellar) but this is just punishment.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ridiculously good. And sad. Watched this twice years apart. Cried twice, years apart. +1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm torn about whether or not I wanna put myself through this..

It's an amazing film, but it will rip out your heart and stomp it into the dust.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't watch it if you have a happy/fun activity afterwards that day. It fucks you up, BUT it's definitely a great experience.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Once. It's worth it, but never again.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Give it a chance... The story is really good

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I really hope you watch it. It's so good even though it's devastating. It's kind of a Schindler's List type movie, really sad but so good.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You know what's the worst? It's based on a real story.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You...you stop that right now

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I cried randomly for two days after watching this film...

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

This is one of the best pieces of film making I have ever seen. I don't know if I will ever watch it again.

8 years ago | Likes 191 Dislikes 3

Exactly. It's that heart wrenchingly beautiful.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good way to put it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks guys, my cereal tastes much better with tears.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I gotta watch it again ne

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sobbed as a teen would probably die if I watch it now as a mom. Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 had me bawling for hours

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The Japanese sure now how to use emotion in their art. Agree about both the movie and the series.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Agree. Wholeheartedly.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I will absolutely not ever watch it again. but I am so glad I watched it once.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ditto. Breathtakingly gorgeous, heartbreakingly sad.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I watched it one time. That's enough for a lifetime.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I watched it 10 years ago and still makes me sad. I have kids now... No way am I watching that now....

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I think this is on the hard drive I have. Somebody told me it was sad so I still have yet to actually watch it.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

saying this movie is sad is like saying the heat death of the universe would be pretty cool

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was told it's the saddest thing, but honestly I only teared up a bit, but mostly it just made me really angry

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's worth it. But only once.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You would not believe your eyes...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NOT AGAIN!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah, I think I'll go watch Now and Then, Here and There instead.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not only one of the best films I've seen but one of the best narratives ever too. Such a sad, pure story

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Once was enough. Thank you.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My mom thought all anime was for kids... I was 8 years old when she picked this up for me at Blockbuster. Thanks for the therapy mom

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

DONT WATCH THIS MOVIE!

8 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 5

Dat movie...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

definitely watch this movie. cry for weeks after, and never regret a second.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I say everyone should watch it once its so beautiful but so heart renching

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've owned it for years and still haven't watched it for this reason. One day...

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Burn it, dude. Burn it.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nah, that movie made me actually sad for a few days after. Well made but, damn

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

ABSOLUTELY WATCH THIS MOVIE! Especially if you find that you can justify the nuclear bombs, you need to watch it.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

If I recall well, the movie doesn't show anything that has to do with the nukes. Only the 'Tokyo Fires.'

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I have never cried to any movie as I did to this one. Incredible it's just a cartoon.

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 3

Judging a work by its media is pretty silly. Would Starry Night be any less beautiful in crayon? Hell, it already looks like crayon.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

good point! for many of us older folks it can seem shocking that a media like this could evoke such feelings. but your analogy is perfect!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think because a cartoon has to be made from scratch instead of making people shaping themselfes in a role gives the option to display 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

emotions and personalities an a whole different level 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

oh that's interesting. like the director's vision is less affected by the performance of the actor. is that what you mean?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In a way yes :) It is not only the performence of the actor but often what is even humanly possible. Animating gives you direct control.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Amazing results!
