I've been feeling off, went to the hospital, despite telling them I had a radical hysterectomy due to cancer, they MUST run a pregnancy test because its procedure for unexplained abdominal pain... I make a fuss saying it's a waste of time and hospital resources but they insist..fine fuck, whatever...

Aaaaannnddd...it's positive....what the fuck

Now everyone's confused to hell...waiting for the doctor to come back with what he's going to do next, he said he's going to look up my surgical notes (I really don't think he believes me anymore about my surgery, but I had it done here in 2016 so all the records are available) possibly to confirm and speak with an associate.

Edit 1: going for an ultrasound!

Edit 2: ultrasound shows no pregnancy, tumors, cysts, and yes the radical hysterectomy took everything from cervix to ovaries... redid blood draw and added more things to check, so waiting for results

Edit 3: latest blood test says negative for pregnancy so someone fckd up somewhere. Still no explanation for current problems, but at least I have a fun story for my afternoon here

Edit 4: being referred to a cardiologist, mentioned my daughter has POTS and hEDS and nothing else is showing to be the cause. Apparently I pass the test/have the symptoms so.... it makes sense, bleh...

Okay since it's going on below and MrJaunty seems to be misinformed, let me repeat, you CANNOT get pregnant if you do NOT have ovaries. Even if you don't have a cervix (no way for the sperm to enter) but say it does with a tear, yes a pregnancy can happen without a uterus but if there are NO eggs, please, believe medical evidence, you need a sperm and an egg to create life, without an egg, it is not possible

I hope everything is ok, @OP. Not knowing what's wrong can be super scary, but hang in there!

It's positive for the hormones not specifically a baby. Abnormal growths can possibly increase your hormone levels to give a false Pos

Holy fuck this thread needs some remedial biology lessons.

Now go on Maury and he'll do the test and say that you're definitely not the mother

You're like a lizard... but instead of growing back a tail after you pull it off you grow back uteruses.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Thus it is imperative you have as many babies as possible to pass on these extraordinary genes

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same thing happened to my ex, turns out it was a false positive because she had a pituitary gland issue

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but a sonogram certainly wouldn’t give a false POSITIVE for pregnancy!

Depends on whether or not Taco Bell was involved

*Story Time* As an ER tech, I once did an preg test on patient by chance because she was of childbearing age, It was positive. Pt claimed 1/

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I had a patient today convinced she had a complete hysterectomy yet she had an IUD placed not too long ago...

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To have had a hysterectomy. Every one thought I mixed up urine samples and thought I was stupid. Charge nurse runs another test and its 2/

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Positive. Now doctors calls previous hospitals for pts med recs. Turns out it wasnt a hysterectomy but a cyst removal. Her ABD pain was 3/?

7 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Labor pain. She gave birth in the ED 10 mins after the doc confirmed it

7 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Was she just really fat?

I had a (false) positive pregnancy test at 17 (I was still a fucking virgin) it scared the absolute shit out of me. “I DONT WANT A JESUS”

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Turns out I had cysts and polyps and that somehow fucks with the results sometimes.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

'Fucking-virgin' is kind of redundant, though. That's generally the default meaning of 'virgin'.

My grandma had my dad and his brother after a partial hysterectomy.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pregnancy tests look for a specific hormone. Men with testicular cancer can show the same effect. In your case a cyst or tumor.

7 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

Yeah. I work in a hospital lab. Was gonna say this exact thing.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Shit. If they switched up someone’s blood...some poor girl is out celebrating with margaritas only to get that phone call...

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or, hopefully, it’s the call they’ve been waiting for. Who knows. Either way, someone’s life is about to change.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or she gets an abortion and her life goes on as normal. She finishes school, pursues her dream career and lives happily ever after. Choices.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Didn't realize kids were so terrible. Wouldn't the default be *wanting* the baby? Safe legal rare, all that?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sure, plenty of women want kids. But their comments above implied that this hypothetical womans only choice is to have a kid.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My bad. It can seem there is only this dichotomy. I also forgot adoption. And abortion rights are necessary. Good call opening the choices.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good luck OP. My daughter also had a radical hysterectomy due to cancer and is still trying to manage the aftereffects. Keep us posted!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Please let us know how it goes @OP

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sometimes cancer can show up as a positive pregnancy test. It happens to men all the time. Be safe, and we'll pray for the best @OP

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The question there is why would a man take a pregnancy test

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They don't, but it's a good way to early check for testicular cancer. #HealthCareWorker

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow good to know

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sometimes a cyst will give a positive pregnancy test. I knew someone who had like that.

7 years ago | Likes 400 Dislikes 6

Now I’m watching that 6yo cyst at her first dance recital

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

So can testicular cancer but I suspect that's not the issue here.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Testicle cancer can lead to positive pregnancy tests too.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Someone found out they had testicular cancer by posting a joke prego test on reddit.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think hysterectmies involve getting testicles getting put in place of what was removed. But I'm not a Dr, so, I could be wrong.

Beta Hcg (human chorionic gonadotrophin)

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I'm not a doctor, but if she had a hysterectomy, surely any sperm wouldnt reach the falopian tubes/ovaries for an ectopic?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That'd be a looooonnngg trip for them little swimmers even if they're doin' the backstroke.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And they can use an ultrasound to check it.

I'm not a master of etymology (or Greek, either), but I'd think the intimation is that you were the spawn of shit.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nope. "Κωλο-" is used in many swearwords that don't have to do with that. κωλοφημερίδα, κωλοπεριοδικό κωλόσπιτο, κωλοφυλλάδα, κωλόφυλλο.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ectopic pregnancies are weird as hell....

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

But not possible without overies last rime i checked

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

True, but hysterectomies don't always involve removing to ovaries. They are two separate surgeries though often linked.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Op said sh aint got none

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The second edit wasn't there when I made my comment, my bad. Though that technically isn't just a radical hysterectomy then. It's a radical

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pregnancy test is a hormone check... you can have hormones out of whack. Now if an ultra-sound comes back positive, let us know! @OP :)

7 years ago | Likes 213 Dislikes 3

It can also just be a false positive. Tests are generally not *perfect*. The staff should know this...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

B hcg is negative outside of pregnancy or cancer

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, often true for the latter.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the tests can be wrong based solely off hormones.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah there was a story on reddit about a dude that pissed on a pregnancy test and it came up positive. Turns out he had prostate cancer
