Holy crap
This is Portland, Oregon, people! It's just a fraction of what's littered at this BNSF underpass under Willamette Blvd. Plenty more buried in the dirt. This makes Downtown Eastside in Vancouver, BC look benign.
It's a lot worse than it looks
It looks like the average homeless camp area, but extremely dangerous. Needles are strewn EVERYWHERE
A picture's worth a thousand words
There's been talk but just how bad? Time for field visit.
photog
But no haystack?
tikitoez
everything i know about portland, i learned from portlandia. the show failed to mention this.
jbilly90
What the fuck. Wow. There are no words for this insanity
letbaby
more than enough reason we need injection sites...
WetPawPrints
I saw an episode of Hoarders last night and she had hundreds of used needles in her house and thousands of cockroaches and black widows
monkeywelder
Well there it is, drink a big gulp, you're gonna need that insulin shot sooner or later. Quit raggin on the diabeetus!
ZephyrOrion
Fuck drugs man. Addiction sucks
cityofcorruption
This is at N Willamette Blvd & N Ida Ave, Portland OR. Hoping enough gawkers make junkies uncomfortable enough to cause them to leave
angelwind76
Those could be for insulin shots. My wife had gestational diabetes and the needles looked like that.
cityofcorruption
uh, that's what those syringes are sold for,but diabetics probably wouldn't go there at night to use them.
montypanesar
the drug problem in this city is disgusting. i hope these people get help because it is a blight
HebaruSan
Looks like you're cleaning it up. Are you volunteering with adopt-a-highway or something like that?
cityofcorruption
No, I just gathered them to photograph so those city officials who never step a foot into the field can see just how bad the problem is.
jwin503
I live here. Drugs and homelessness is getting out of hand. It's very unfortunate.
Fistymicstabbys
I find this stuff at work and its made me hate the homeless in my area I know its not all of them but I saw a kid step on one so no more.
ledtestlights
Time to break out the metal detector and sand sifter to get the subsurface stuff. Guarantee there's minimum 3x more underground.
probatus
Cover the whole area with pavement.
undertheinfluenceofcaffeine
Portland has always had a heroin problem.
JeannieMcG
looks like the war on drugs worked
stevegoodsex
Don't worry, keep working and you'll prick yourself with the antidote sooner or later.
cityofcorruption
Update: The Oregonian picked up the story and got in touch with BNSF which pledged to clean up if it owns the property
FireAuro
I saw it on OregonLive as well! I'm so grateful people like you exist in this town. Thank you.
991e
those are not drugs... they are flu shots
crazycatlady14
Not even right needle for flu shots. Source: I'm a nurse. Also, if you were being sarcastic, I apologize as I can't tell online.
OldIronsides
Obviously it's just a lot of diabetics with littering problems...
JeffGodofBiscuits
maybe try dragging a high power magnet to get the ones that might be covered?
LariCheltsy
Dig grind and sift. It's the only way to be sure. (Industrial machines, not by hand, God...)
cityofcorruption
I wish that worked. I tried that already. Those needles are barely magnetic. It's attracted to powerful magnet, but not enough to pickup.
badc0ffee
Yeah, bitch! Magnets!
JeffGodofBiscuits
If only someone could tell us how they work.
991e
napalm is what u need.
JeffGodofBiscuits
That would certainly sterilize them
SupaCabra
surgical stainless steel will require a VERY strong magnet
JeffGodofBiscuits
that's true... didn't realize the needles were stainless
SupaCabra
stainless is the preferred material for medical and cooking tools. it resists rust and has strength. regular steel will rust and infect you
