This.

How long is that in dog to human year ratio

I’m almost confident those aren’t the same dog.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Kinda also true for introverts

My rescue girl of 9 years is snoring her head off next to me. Would give her the world if I could.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OSU is doing a study on this. Acclimating is quite a process for pets. And patience is key.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I always tell people to think of their rescue as a puppy. Do short walks, don’t even leave the yard during the first week or so. There’s

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

a lot for them to process. And they need a safe place. Rushing it might lead to insecurity.

As someone who has two new year and a half year old kittens, this seems true for cats as well. And we just moved, so got to see it again.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Didn't read full title, read about halfway comparing it to myself until i realized something was up

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Great advice. We got lucky with ours. She settled right in right away and has been the best behaved pooch we've ever had.

4 years ago | Likes 221 Dislikes 0

Also got lucky. Almost immediately went on a long road trip with mine and then returned and then went on an even longer road trip lol.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

This is also me after I go anywhere.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My husband had a dog who spent the first 3 weeks under his bed. She came out for walks & food. Never met her, but glad they had each other.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Also true of cats. I felt like I couldn't read our younger cat for months after we adopted him and suddenly it clicked

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We've had our rescue for 9 years. She still freaks out when we put her in the car thinking we're going to dump her. When we get in car to 1/

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Come home, she's as calm as can be. It's only the first time on leaving the house.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I always knew it didn’t happen instantly, but I never knew the specifics. This will be something to consider if I ever get a dog.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Adopted a dog who in week one was like a different dog to the one visited, was very worried. He was terrified of everything until he relaxed

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mine literally was on the couch, feet in the air, passed out day one. I love her.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have a friend that only gave a new pup one week.. Very upset with them but happy to find the pup a real forever home afterwards

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cats: congratulations, you now maintain a home solely so this miniature tiger has a safe, warm place to judge you.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My chap took the no eating to town, was like 7 days before he had anything larger than half a sausage. Scared me silly.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How are the dogs supposed to read this?

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Day 5/7

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We had to return our rescue dog because she keep attacking our other dogs without provocation. She showed no previous signs of aggression.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She lasted 4 days. We were heart broken to let her go but our other dogs started becoming scared in their own home. We couldn't have that.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately some reacues have behaviours that are not manageable and disappointingly some centre will lie to perspective adopters.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They did lie. She whimpered every time we pet her. They said that means she likes it. She was frightened.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Took my Eskie a few days to come to terms with us being her new family. She would just look out the window and when I let her out she...

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

...would just stare down the street. Looking for the family that gave her up? She warmed up to us but those first days were heartbreaking.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Our pup was found running the streets. Got him from the rescue. First month didn’t think he barked at all….

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Took about six months and we realized he rescued us. It’s like a new experience everyday with him and have had him over two years.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Now he is very vocal! Very lovable! And couldn’t imagine life without him. We did have growing pains those first sixth months but worth it!

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

When I first brought home my pup, I slept in the same room with her while she was decompressing to help her relax. She is currently sleeping

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

On my foot, and occasionally wakes up to lick my toes.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

By-tor is in week 2 with us. Shes doing a heckin good job at getting with the program with our Goldie

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thats how i feel about her. Shes currently our foster, but i think we’re going to keep her.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I honestly hope it works out. Will you keep her name By-Tor? It's adorable and clever.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thats a pseudonym to protect the innocent. She’s going to stay with us now that shes met the health requirements of the rescue.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And remember, if the dog comes from a very traumatic experience/home, or if they were in the shelter a long time, it may take longer.

4 years ago | Likes 795 Dislikes 1

Took our anxious rescue a year and 6 months of anxiety meds. He still isn't a fan of strangers but he is right at home with us!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Took almost a year for my pup. He was effectively feral. It was like having a small, fluffy coyote in the house.

4 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Took my boy 2 years to show us the magical and loving goof he is I love my scaredy dog to death

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

It took mine a year and a half of socializing to learn how to be a real dog. She had no idea.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

6 years of breeding cage for mine. She's safe now.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Four years later and she still bites me....

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh hey, that's me

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It took over 6 months for our last rescue to not flinch every time you pet him. I have no idea went his life was prior, but I'm assuming it>

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

wasn't very kind.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Good on you.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Seeing his confidence grow and his personality shine, it was worth every second helping him adjust.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Had a rescue that was the stud dog at a puppy mill for 9 years, never really adjusted to people but started following our other dogs and

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

and would try to mimic their behavior. It was interesting watching an adult dog learn to be a dog like a newborn puppy would...

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It took just under a month to find out one of my rescue attempts was a no-warning level four biter over anything that displeased her.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The other two came out of their shells in about two-three months.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And training (for you and the dog) may be really helpful

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That is so very, very true. There's always something new to learn.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Took my boy a couple years. He still has nervous ticks from his old life. Gets me fighting mad thinking about his history.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It’s take a little over a year for my rescue pup. She was from Texas and I think someone was not nice to her. She’s happy and safe now!

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Or like the old Sheppard my family used to have, it never happens ?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

3 years and I'm still trying to kennel train a Pom. Her separation anxiety is a pain in the ass.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's approaching 10 years. I don't think she'll ever be as docile as we want. Always barking at everything. Still a bit bite-y

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think mine will always be a bit unpredictable and bite-y with strangers and new experiences lol still happy he is here!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

indeed! my old boy took a long time to settle in, and even to his last day years later would still snap when startled (mainly from sleep)>

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

he always looked so sorry/guilty as soon as he was fully awake and realized what he did, (we dk what all he had been through but clearly he>

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

had been chained at one point) but he was the sweetest guy, just had some trauma issues.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is so important. My neighbor fosters dogs and once a year theres an idiot who returns the dog because they are acting scared a day.

4 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 0

From alot of these comments to it looks like some of these rescue places aren't being honest about behaviors. Here its disclosed

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are they idiots or people who realized dogs are more work than they thought and couldn't provide what they needed?

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

We returned a rescue dog after we figured out it didn’t like men & had severe separation anxiety. None of this was disclosed beforehand.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

See thats bullshit, you should have been told. There needs to be a good match.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree. Our dog was returned by the previous adopter after a day. She was a stray and was3yo already we’ve spent a lot of time and <

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

>and $ training her. Not everyone can afford to do that. Some people have good intentions but dk what they’re getting into.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're right. My folks rescued several Great Danes and it amazed me how many times they were told "we didn't know how big it would get."

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Exactly! We had to return rescue as showed severe aggression towards anyone entering home and current dog. Couldn't risk it biting guests

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You should have been told. There needs to be a good match. That is super dangerous not disclosing something like that wow

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly better that person returns the dog since they clearly don't have the understanding/time/resources to deal with a rescue.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It feels like we should have checks in place before getting a pet - sterilise, register, and training (settling, nutritional, behaviour)

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People need to be matched with a dogs behavior that matches their life. Here they try to do that. Sounds like people are not being truthful

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To push dogs out the door and that makes legit rescues have an even harder time with good dogs.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All very true. Have seen it heaps esp with high energy dogs. Our 2nd rescue was pushed on us by the rescue group. A lot of people told us to

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll probably use this timeline for myself when I finally get the courage to quit my soul-crushing job.

4 years ago | Likes 185 Dislikes 0

You're gonna be looking back on your past steps soon. :) best oof luck,

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I’m in my first month at a new job and I wouldn’t say I’m acclimated yet but I am very confident I made the right decision to leave.

4 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I just told our company’s JVP today that I want out, and we worked out an exit strategy together. My last day will be November 1st.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

And I already feel such a sense of relief. I’m positive that this was the right decision for me.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This is exactly what happened to me, I started my new job in March, by mid June I was all good land happy. My new job saved me.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Do it. Just be honest with them and let them know it’s what you need. They may appreciate the transparency.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It took me a month to recover from the abuse of my old job. I've been at my urgent job right at 3 months, & I'm finally able to feel like I>

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Bit jealous, it's been almost 2 years since an abusive job, and I am better, but not 100% what I was before it.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Write it out of your head. Get the abuse out of your mind, & onto paper. It was the only way I could start to heal.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can breathe again. Then my old boss came in, & shot me a nasty look, tried to make a scene about "you abandoned us". My current boss>

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Wasn't having any of it, & told her to get out. Having that kind of emotional support in a business is... startling.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Holy shit that’s great. Just let my job know on Friday that I need an exit strategy. My last day will be November 1st.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bc of the support that I'm getting at my current job, I'm currently filling out the application for a move into management.
