SgtChowdown
lmfao do you think we're just kickin back playing video games after having a baby? you're why we need sex ed in schools.
bearbug
I'm a teacher and our maternity leave is unpaid. It's a nice option to be able to leave and still have a job but no money means more bills.
weliveinaspaceshipdear
Ok but...FMLA gives 12 weeks of non-paid time off to recuperate. Men get it if they have surgery or a medical complication too.
thisisgettingannoyingalready
Everyone else fails to mention this. I had to work like a crazy person while pregnant so I could afford to stay home after giving birth.
You know, to watch soap operas and eat ice cream for 12 weeks...rrright. Just kicking back.
BojanglesTheFlyingCar
And paternity leave, but I only got a week... Versus like half a year in other countries
TheDudeanator
I got all of my remaining vacation/sick time. 5 days.
That sucks
Live in USA, my maternity leave only guaranteed I wouldn't lose my job. NO pay at all. So try again.
itsthevoiceman
Which is absolute horseshit. But I can also see it as an unnecessary burden to you and the company. Both sides are hard to balance.
But you know, it could be that men are hired for certain jobs because they're more willing to do them or have a better skill set.
intenseintrovert
Conversely, why should standards be lowered to displace men who are already in positions just to let women in?
I disagree with the lowering standards of the job itself, but the getting to the job for these roles needs a lot of help.
But why are they more willing? And on the flip side why are many less willing to do other jobs like deal with kids? 1/3
nerdyvet
This is really where the "sexism" lies. It's not the outright pay. It's the societal norms that pressure job seeking and hiring.
TerryCrews
As a commercial construction superintendent, we're at 99% male. We don't even get applications from women. They're sure they won't get hired
Out of curiousity, how true do you think that is?
I don't all men are actually less equipped for the job of teaching non-adults. A lot of it is societal expectations that train & 2/3
equip men and women with different skill sets and self expectations. Those that veer of either side of the spectrum often it more 3/3
difficult to pursue their passions to the point that they give up. 1 1/3
All men are less equipped? You lost me at "all"
*dont think all Lost a word there.
CephalopodLodge
Cause women are evolutionarily set up to be more child loving
Sure, on the whole perhaps, but teaching isn't strictly child caring it's a lot of group manipulation which men have been doing for
Yeah but men are just more likely to not want to be around kids
centuries. And to the point of only 2% men are in the field? Individuals vary more than that. There's more stigma/social

That friendo was the point. : ] the sarcasm was at the people who will say men are suited to labor but women are powerful still
Allaboardtheyoloswagon
Oh well sorry for being a jackass :p
GregorSamsa
Ha nbd friendo I expected flak when I posted

Now sort them by salary
Hurro
Would be skewed based on location is my guess.
Komer
Can add lots of grey to any argument to sway it in your favor.
HelloFriendly
And population.
InfiniDream
And also by the time at which people quits the job in the evening
Komer
Salary including benefits like maternity leave.
iamtheliquorrandybobandy
Also, and this may be weird, but not all women have babies. Ever.
Tomyris
What maternity leave? http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/09/26/u-s-lacks-mandated-paid-parental-leave/
SgtChowdown
lmfao do you think we're just kickin back playing video games after having a baby? you're why we need sex ed in schools.
I had to work like a crazy person while pregnant so I could afford to stay home after giving birth.
thisisgettingannoyingalready
You know, to watch soap operas and eat ice cream for 12 weeks...rrright. Just kicking back.
BojanglesTheFlyingCar
And paternity leave, but I only got a week... Versus like half a year in other countries
TheDudeanator
I got all of my remaining vacation/sick time. 5 days.
TheDudeanator
I got all of my remaining vacation/sick time. 5 days.
BojanglesTheFlyingCar
That sucks
thisisgettingannoyingalready
Live in USA, my maternity leave only guaranteed I wouldn't lose my job. NO pay at all. So try again.
itsthevoiceman
Which is absolute horseshit. But I can also see it as an unnecessary burden to you and the company. Both sides are hard to balance.
Komer
But you know, it could be that men are hired for certain jobs because they're more willing to do them or have a better skill set.
intenseintrovert
Conversely, why should standards be lowered to displace men who are already in positions just to let women in?
laonion
I disagree with the lowering standards of the job itself, but the getting to the job for these roles needs a lot of help.
laonion
But why are they more willing? And on the flip side why are many less willing to do other jobs like deal with kids? 1/3
nerdyvet
This is really where the "sexism" lies. It's not the outright pay. It's the societal norms that pressure job seeking and hiring.
TerryCrews
As a commercial construction superintendent, we're at 99% male. We don't even get applications from women. They're sure they won't get hired
nerdyvet
Out of curiousity, how true do you think that is?
laonion
I don't all men are actually less equipped for the job of teaching non-adults. A lot of it is societal expectations that train & 2/3
laonion
equip men and women with different skill sets and self expectations. Those that veer of either side of the spectrum often it more 3/3
laonion
difficult to pursue their passions to the point that they give up. 1 1/3
tinyhighlife
All men are less equipped? You lost me at "all"
laonion
*dont think all Lost a word there.
CephalopodLodge
Cause women are evolutionarily set up to be more child loving
laonion
Sure, on the whole perhaps, but teaching isn't strictly child caring it's a lot of group manipulation which men have been doing for
CephalopodLodge
Yeah but men are just more likely to not want to be around kids
laonion
centuries. And to the point of only 2% men are in the field? Individuals vary more than that. There's more stigma/social
