The US, recorded 1,219,487 deaths during the COVID Pandemic. While recognizing this catastrophe, here is an amusing glimpse at what some people did for self protection.

Blows my mind that kids in middle school during the pandemic have already graduated high school

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I preferred this era. I wish we could go back ... you know, without all the deaths and stuff.

6 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

How many of those deaths were because of Trump's negligence?

6 years after the pandemic began, republicans are still crying about the covid measures used to mitigate the number infections and deaths. Remember: republicans said the old and disabled should be willing to die for the economy (Lt. gov. dan patrick R-TX for example).

yeah, it was somewhat comical but the backlash by the self-absorbed Americans was horrific as they "followed the science" or loudly told you Jesus gave them an immune system.

The last photo does not appear to be taken in America.

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What does that mean? This platform is international. Numerous people from many countries contribute to IMGUR.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

The title of the post implies that Americans are the ones depicted in the photos.

Some people know how to avoid the plague. Others gave new meaning to "Avoid it like the plague."

6 days ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

What I love is that in December 2019, there was a meme going around in response to people's stupidity: "We need a new plague."

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was easier to spot complete morons from afar at that time. So it was not without advantages.

#6 Americans: “How can we make baptism more American?”

6 days ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

I wish all baptisms were like this. Dipping is so last century.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I went to Easter service with my wife because at least in Colombia when a family member passes(her mom) you can pay the church to perform the service in someone's honor. The main guy walked around with a metal bucket and a wand kind of like a honey comb to dip and flick at people. He was aiming right at peoples faces and the bigger the splash the bigger his smile. I'd love to get him some super soakers modded with co2 cartridges so he could blast everyone.

One of the misconceptions I am somewhat glad for is that the masks protected the wearer. Only the higher end masks did so and I think there would have been even less compliance with wearing masks if more people thought they were doing it for everyone around them and not themselves.

6 days ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Yeaaaa... I think they, while not willing to openly admit it, KNOW this. IT was THAT. The fact that they were sacrificing that little bit of comfort for *GASP* SOMEONE OTHER THAN "MYSELF" - U could instantly tell who were self serving, selfish asshats during that time, they were the chin diaper mask wearers (or worse, would yank it off after entering the building) - Some even went so far as the hostile/malicious intent and 'lick' hands then wipe it everywhere. Gross people.

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, I wore a mask because after MOPP4, nothing bothers you. But I knew that the type of mask I wore (that I could afford) gave me like 20% protection but 70% for everyone else. It was weird about that, but you're right- it's good the selfish bastards didn't know the stats on their gear.

6 days ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

I suspect a big part of the problem was that the advertising talking about masks was all 'Your mask protects me, my mask protects you' which went against the 'Rugged Individualism' the Far-Right is all about. There probably would have been more mask-wearing if people were told that wearing a mask PROPERLY, and wearing the right kind of mask, would reduce their personal risk.

Remember, the pandemic never went away. People are still dying and becoming disabled from COVID. Keep wearing masks in public.

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And so many people STILL think the COVID vaccines are evil. They really don't remember all the full ICU's etc. do they?

6 days ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

In 700 years these will be the new plague doctor outfits for masquerade balls

6 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They where the silly ones then for a bit, but at least they tried to be safe even if it was woth questionable methods.

Unlike the plague rat deniers... Wild huh.

6 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

#5 Why even bother, just take it off.

5 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I had p100 respirators I bought in 2007 when I saw Sars 1. Probably saved my life

6 days ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

I teach band. Companies made and sold masks that had holes in the front like how boxers are for kids to play instruments. Like- yeah their exhale is still blowing out the end of that trumpet bro

4 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#3 He's clearly cutting carbs..

6 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I still hear people say masks were stupid and I just don’t understand it. It’s common sense. We know it’s a virus that’s spread through respiratory droplets. Why not put a barrier? Is it perfect? No. But it’s obviously not a bad idea. To argue about it is just ridiculous. They laugh like it was ridiculous.

6 days ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Agreed but it's transmitted by aerosols too, which it took WHO a couple years to even acknowledge.

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's because like seemingly every other topic, it was politicized and propaganda campaigns were manifested around it, diluting the message or intentionally spreading MISinformation. To this day, I STILL have to inform people all the time the point of a basic cloth or surgical mask is to keep your snot and spit confined generally to yourself, NOT to save you from someone else sneezing directly in your face (though they can somewhat help against that also).

Truly, i admire your belief in common sense.

6 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Americans famously don't like being told what to do. Especially by someone they fear is smarter than they are.

6 days ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I guess when it's clearly a fucking moron, they're fine with doing what he says. Somehow.

6 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

"He tells it like it is. Ah-hyuck."

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In America on the very first time that the CDC said "Masks should be worn,"... in the same press conference... Trump said "but you don't have to do it, they said its not mandatory and I am certainly not going to do it"................. and that set the precedent.

Gen Y witnessed the rise & fall of CDs, DVDs, VHS... from 8-bit, 32-bit, 64-bit consoles to PS5s, XBox 1s... Sega consoles... from Solitaire to Diablo 2 to WOW to back to Diablo 2... from Nokia unbreakable phones to smart phones... from Napster, Kazaa, Linewire to Youtube and streaming... Y2K, housing recession, Covid...

So easy to just wanna be a hermit away from it all... if we can afford it

Who remembers 2019, November i believe, when Imgur was making fun of Chinese people in similar getups...?

6 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

funny, #8 is in Hong Kong.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well it's Imgur, of which is predominantly American and Americans infamously cannot decide if they want to be more ignorant or more racist.

6 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

That’s ridiculous! Racism IS ignorance so most MAGA USA’ans know that ignorance is the way.

I’ve never been more ashamed of the people around me, and that was already such a low bar.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

You can be ignorant but not racist...

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I want that number spray painted on Mitch McConnels urinal marker. When you put an idiot in charge you own the results not the idiot.

6 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I just wonder how low that number is from the ACTUAL deaths caused by Covid.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How do you tell the deaths by pulmonary failure while infected apart from pulmonary failure caused by COVID? Do you exclude the deaths from delayed care, even though COVID caused the delay?

A very telling cartoon. We will likely never know the true cost of both Covid and the stupidity of so many people who made it worse.

My favorite was the people wearing a mask over their mouth without it covering their nose.

6 days ago | Likes 314 Dislikes 1

I still fucking see this shit! It's been SIX YEARS!!! Have The Masses learned NOTHING???

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mine were the ones who would walk in the door, grab a complimentary mask, put it on, walk up to the counter, pull it off to talk to you.

6 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Or vice versa, it was a wild fuckign time.

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Watched a fight breakout in a checkout line over that. People are animals

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

“Excuse me…could you please put on your chin strap?

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They still do. Saw one yesterday, thought about that too.

6 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Or the people wearing a mask over their CHIN without it covering ANYTHING useful.

6 days ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

The chindiaper episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is amazing

6 days ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Back in 2020 I asked a lady to put her mask on. Shes like “my body, my choice”

Me in 2026: Well that certainly aged like milk.

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People STILL do this. I have customers who wear masks and they leave their nose - and often their mouth - uncovered. Like...it's been 6 goddamn years. How do you not know how to wear a little mask?!

6 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Mouth breathers? No problem

6 days ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

My favourite was people pulling it down to talk, ie. exactly when it was most important to keep it covering your fucken disease hole.

6 days ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 0

I saw someone pull down their mask to sneeze into their hand and I knew immediately this was gonna be endemic

6 days ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I saw that, like, everyday. Minus the hand. People be dumb.

3 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I saw that too.

5 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And the people wearing gloves everywhere, like those magically don't spread germs.

6 days ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Oh the ones who NEVER changed their gloves...or masks...

Like, I used a gaiter-style mask that I had 5 of. I wore them one day, and then into the laundry they went (and I just didn't go anywhere on the weekends). And I just skipped gloves in favor of hand-sanitizer which just worked better and didn't rely on me buying a box of gloves multiple times a month.

6 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I still see a variation of that all the time. Go to Dunkin and order at the counter. The person working there will keep the same gloves on while handling the register as well as pulling donuts out of the case to put in bags for customers, preparing coffee and putting the lid on (that you're about to drink from) with the same gloves, etc.

They are supposed to change them if they touch any non-sanitary surface. But they don't. Very poor training.

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are supposed to wash hands after handling money as well, people are clueless.

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was like 70% of people at some point.

6 days ago | Likes 106 Dislikes 1

I still see it all the fucking time. It just boggles my mind. Cover your mouth and nose, people!

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

On the wild chance you actually come back to this comment. I use to believe that "we can agree to disagree. Let it slide. Give them the benefit of a doubt. Trump being elected and the insane rug pull shift into facism/racism/greed/corruption/theft proved that If we give them that benefit of a doubt. If we trust them to do the right thing they will absolutely use it as a window to do the wrong thing. Tolerance of Intolerance is a paradoxical lie.

I will not watch my country fall to Nazi america

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is a Venn Diagram of people that were against masks/misused masks/made masks political/made masks about freedom of choice damn the consequnces on others the other circle being right wing ideology.

Those 2 circles...were far far to over lapped for what they should be.

If I had to flip a coin on which one you were. I wouldn't be flipping a coin. I'd be rolling a 10 or 20 sided dice where I guessed wrong on a 1.
