Disney animators unionized back in the early 1940s. Also, 3D animators were admitted into the Animator's Guild in the 1990s, but Disney Animated Studios didnt release a 3d animated film until 2005.
Not that I'd put it past Disney to try to bust unions or to let labor dispute dictate their choices, but it doesn't seem likely to be the case here. More likely it was due to declining box office returns for 2d animated films, how well Pixar was doing, and new tech reducing costs for 3d.

I wish AI wasn't a disaster. It would be awesome to be able to replace actors that ended up being shit. So many of those people are amazing, not to mention everyone else that worked on the films, but no, my brain won't stop ranting the second I see Pratts fucking face.

Mulan, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, all with sequels. Treasure a planet actually NEEDED a sequel and we never got anything. I’m going to count my blessings, though. Did you ever see the Megamind sequel? I hardly ever give up on a movie but I turned it off so it wouldn’t besmirch the first one. It is belligerently terrible. It wants you to hate it.

They are side characters, only making appearances in the beginning and the end. They have a lot more screen time in the first movie which is also a good movie so watch that one and go to YouTube to get all their clips from the second one. But the second one is mostly Vanellope saying "hey cool, this is what I want to do" and Ralph saying "but I'm too short sighted to see how that benefits me" and then hijinx around that weak-ass plot.
