What people are saying is true it's not just rich people it's everyone but that doesn't counter the fact that as a species we have traumatised other animal species to the point they're now attacking humans. The question should be "what can we do to make our impact as little as possible on the environment and the world around us to coexist with the rest of nature?"

I feel this is pretty specific and I think you'll find the orcas didn't start it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think the really rich people even care, they'll get new one pretty quick with the insurance money. And no insurance company is going to fuck sideways with the rich people who insure their houses, vehicles, horses, wives, kids, girlfriends and boats worth of millions and millions of dollars. They bring in so goddamn much money, that paying for a new couple million dollar yacht isn't anything in the big picture.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I don't think rich-people-yachts have anything to worry about, sadly...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your slightly off there, rich people’s boats have massive steel rudders that orcas can’t attack, poorer fishermen and shoestring sailors have puny plywood rudders that disintegrate, wrong target.

Sink the rich or whatever.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

What'd the orca say when he saw a yacht that was too big for him and his buddies to sink? Let's get Kraken... HFD

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Orcas are friends of the proletariat

To the rich peoples:

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I thought this was just a one time thing is this happening a lot now?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Your always richer than someone else... To you it's an orcha sinking their yacht, to someone else, it is a deer stepping infront of your car and writing it off.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My buddy's parents sold their home and live full time on a boat. They're not super rich. Wouldn't be cool if it was their boat.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 5

I'd say that the orcas are trying to save us from ourselves. "But according to the Monterey Bay Aquarium – which houses the nonprofit research organization Seafood Watch – “Ninety percent of the world’s fisheries are now fully exploited, over-exploited or have collapsed.”  and, they also just really like sinking boats.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

How about non-rich people who have a boat instead of the shiniest new car?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

All jokes aside, orcas are assholes and they're probably just doing it funzies, just like they enjoy killing for sport. Those motherfuckers have bee known to beach themselves trying to catch juvenile seals to torture to death.

A lot of folks on here concern me with the assumption that sailing = ima rich asshat.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

It’s quite sad, because in a weird way, it visualizes that these people are who they criticize. Conformality and black and white thinking. Somebody is able to afford a boat? Must be rich, because I cannot afford a boat. Fuck that guy for being rich!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah... I'm dirt poor but if I actually managed to make money, I feel like I'd be a target

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

"Yachts" don't always mean "rich people". There are a lot of people out on the water because they love the ocean. Don't shoot them because you are ignorant.

2 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 27

If you have a boat , chance are you have more money than 95% of the rest of the world. Except if you are a fishermen but then you are activeny killing them so it's part of the game

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

yachts are luxury boats, its like.. the point of that type of boat. Theres always a rich dude behind a yacht, or at the very least the person is wealthy enough to *almost* be considered rich. I don't give a shit fuck about any yacht owner.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 6

Every boat longer 10 meter is considered a yacht. I know people who bought an old sailing yacht for 10k and put in an additional 10k in material and work. Doesn’t make you rich… but I guess if you a poor af and living in the US, everyone else seems to be rich…

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Yep, my car is £500 merc i brought of a mate, it's 22 years old, I prey every time it makes a new noise.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lot of boaters I know are twats. A little splash in the drink would do 'em good.

2 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 10

I worked in the marine industry for 12 years before I left to go work on bicycles. You see a lot of Trump flags on boats around here, not so much on the bikes.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Same on lakes here. We have huge boats on lakes with flags. Probably the big boats without flags are not Trump people, but definitely flags for Trump are big, nice boats. Weird space on the lake as they are nice actually but the flag! Tells me something.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And it's everything.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not always the rich. It's fishermen, it's guys running transpo on these things too.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 9

given how much people are overfishing, can't say its overall a bad thing for the environment. bad for the fishermen absolutely since their livelihoods are now more dangerous and can be costly. in the end, i don't have an answer. i'm just more surprised that this behavior didn't develop earlier in orcas.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Is that number accurate?

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It's slightly less.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

410 billion boats? Yeah that sounds about right considering the whole Earth's population of humans.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Vaguely

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's not just yachts it's fishing boats, too. Still, I root for our aquatic cousins.

2 years ago | Likes 442 Dislikes 12

I don't eat fish anyway, so fuck em.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yawn - the rich people will just get another batch (from insurance) - if only the orcas could learn from us and "eat the rich"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I thought it was just sailboats

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it's not luxury yachts. if it was luxury yachts, some russian oligarch would pay to have orcas hunted to extinction.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Most plastics in the ocean cones from fishing boats that with the noise and over fishing, I don't blame them.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Small sailing boats, more like.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

An analysis of trash island found the majority of it came from commercial fishing: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/nov/06/dumped-fishing-gear-is-biggest-plastic-polluter-in-ocean-finds-report

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

eh, we're overfishing the seas as is. I can go a while without fish

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

It's not like the orcas have a ship silhouette identification guide

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not to mention the sailors who aren't rich, live on their boats & maintain them themselves. I watch plenty of youtubers in this situation. They just don't want their homes attacked.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

They should switch to something more sustainable. May as well ask me to give a fuck about coal miners.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

dont sail into orca territory idk nobody is like coordinating this they're orcas dude

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Counterpoint: Orcas do not want to be attacked in their home, to have their food taken from them, etc. People are not entitled to the ocean.

2 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

I'm torn, anything hurting rich ppl is good. But I fucking hate orcas so much I'd like to wipe them out myself lol.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 49

Lol that's a new one

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Orcas are brutal and intelligent predators, so I'm not saying you have to like them. But wishing them extinct seems like a bit much.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

How does one come to hate orcas? Unless, of course.... Did an orca sink your ship???

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

well with that statement being out there, Id root for the orcas against you

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

So if I didn't say it you'd have remained neutral as it happened?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Seriously though, are you really not going to explain the orca-hated?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

no? id be unaware, hug difference

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I would like additional information on how this hatred came into being.

Not every use of time HAS to he the best use. Optimizing life in such a way would be boring as hell.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

I'm not saying to optimize your life, but maybe be to do things more productive with your time

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We're all making imgur comments while taking a shit. The content of any comment here doesn't change the amount of productivity.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah, Orcas attacking yachts is them doing us a favor. Orcas attacking fishing boats is just fair play.

2 years ago | Likes 152 Dislikes 2

It's also them attacking sailboats which belong to rich and poor alike. In fact it's mainly sailboats

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If they’re working together, it means the attacks are well Orca-strated. All right, I’m going…

We've already destroyed their habitat. This is them "fighting" us back. We are the bad guys here.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Always have been.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

humans are an extinction level event

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Fight *back*? We're decimating ocean ecosystems across the globe; they're the ones fighting back.

2 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

I now live next to a fishing town on tge Oregon Coast. The fishermen arnt there because they want to be. The companies that own the fishing vessel pay them to but in the short time iv lived up here, their names have been added to the boardwalk. Fishermen lost at sea.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I don't mean anything against the guys on the boats, anymore than I judge the average coal miner. But that doesn't erase the damage done by the industry.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

But don't wish ill on the innocent endentured individuals

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I don't! But I don't have to endorse their endeavor, either. I hope most of them have to find different jobs in the near future.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Fishing boats have a pretty high carbon footprint (compared to farm fish which also has problems, so lose-lose) maybe the fish are sick of it? https://sustany.org/farmed-or-wild-caught-fish-which-is-better-for-the-environment/

2 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 1

Valletta, so, no fish, no meat, no plants. What's left. Must be something else we can't eat.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

See my response to knarledhalo

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, a lot of fishing boats are wiping out whole oceanic ecosystems because they're using smaller meshed nets to catch smaller fish. Why are they catching the smaller fish? Because there aren't many big fish to catch. Why arent there more big fish? Because fishermen are catching all the small ones before they can grow bigger, so they end up needing smaller mesh nets to catch smaller fish, which means there aren't enough big fish, so they need even smaller mesh nets to catch....

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

We're damned if we do and we're damned if we don't. The best I can do is limit my consumption and try to make good choices when it comes to fish.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

All you can do. Just remember, the best thing you can eat to reduce you carbon footprint is a billionaire!
