Ok guys I just have a few questions. I'm going to use this computer to play games and probably use graphics overhaul mods as well as vr. Is it overkill? Should I downgrade the CPU and PSU? Also will having games installed on a HDD effect how they play and load. Currently going to get a 1tb SSD but could cut cost with a 256gb ssd and 1tb hdd. Parts below.

Also pic related. I hope it will look similar.

Also sidenote. Just realized I selected the EVGA 1070 instead of the EVGA 1070 sc

A SSD will almost be necessary if you want to go for high end.

How many games are you planning to have installed or run as 'main games'. 1tb SSD is overkill imo. You can always add more down the line.

Probably 4 or 5. I guess a 500gb would suffice and run anything else on a hdd

I had a 120gb ssd dedicated for MMOs, another for OS. My 2tb mechanical drive had 1.25tb used on the steam folder just this weekend lol.

I'm trying to clean it, but man - so many cases of 'i'm sure i'll play it soooon...' games lol. Had 81 games installed :/

I built my rig with 1 SSD for my main game and operating system. Then later on added another SSD when it got too big (expansions etc).

Also worth noting that your rig aint gonna look like the one in the pic. Pictured is using closed loop liquid cooling rather than heatsink.

You can ofc mess around with fancy fans and wires for aesthetics - but you're running a totally different cooling system.

Your pc looks good. 1/3

i have a 7200 rpm drive running my games and i haven't noticed much of a difference between load times on that and my m.2 2/3

so switching that would work well for your wallet. also never downgrade your psu, one of my friends fried his rig from a cheap one.

Agree with this - I built rigs for years. Had a number of cheap chinese shit PSUs blow up on me, get something good and reliable.

Sorry I didn't mean a cheaper made one just lower wattage

1 Unless you plan on overclocking really hard you could pick a PSU with a little lower wattage like 500/600

Seasonic are good

I don't for now but got the GPU capable of doing so for future proofing. I could always upgrade the PSU later though

Well sure, keep in mind that overclocking 1070 IMO, is not as power consuming as overclocking the CPU, so 550W should be enough

2 the stock cooler coming with Ryzen non X is more than enough, even if you plan on overclocking, so you can drop the cooler

3 ssd/hhd impact only on loading times, so an SSD is not really necessary, you might need only 500 GB , but that's up to you and the budget

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't realize it was m.2, if it's nvme you could get a normal(sata) ssd for a really lower price, nvme is really overkill for games

4 The CPU is really up to the budget, if you're comfortable with that price, go for it.

Also if it's only for gaming, consider an Intel with higher clock and less cores, i5-7600k or i7-7700k (these two need a cooler)
