I hate how now you're a crazy vegan for wanting meat farms to treat animals better. I love meat,I just think we owe the animals decent lives
Consider that there are 7 billion people in the world, all looking for an identity. If there's a .001% chance that someone will take an...
extreme position on a given issue, then 70 thousand people will do so. How extreme the position doesn't matter given the population...
all that matters is what issues they have been exposed to. Every time, you roll the dice. We've got a lot of potential issues to take...
positions on. This is just a product of probability, global communication, and large populations.
GreatTeacherMichael
Not every issue, just extremists talk way more than more moderate people, who go unnoticed
Moderates are also less likely to engage in activism. Otherwise environmental & animal rights activism would be more focused on improving...
livestock conditions and reducing red meat consumption in favor of poultry instead of framing it as an all-or-nothing issue.Poultry has a...
much lower environmental impact (lower than some plant foods even). I bet lots of people could get behind eating chicken rather than steak.
egbertmoxie
Actually from an ethical standpoint (reducing suffering = main point of veganism) chickens are MUCH WORSE. Think about it for a second.
itsahorse
Exactly, it's good to avoid meat. Kudos to everyone who does. I'm trying more and more myself to avoid meat. No need to be a dick about it.
Red meat & processed meat, yes. It's less healthy to avoid omega 3-rich seafood, and to a lesser extent poultry & eggs. Studies show that...
pesco-vegetarian diets offer greater health benefits than vegan diets. E.g., fish eating vegetarians have a 43% lower risk of colorectal ...
cancer compared to mainstream dieters, whereas vegans only have a 16% lower risk. This means vegans could lower their colon cancer risk...
by 27% by eating seafood. See http://media.jamanetwork.com/news-item/vegetarian-diet-linked-to-lower-risk-of-colorectal-cancers/
Climate change is really a much more important reason to reduce meat consumption and to campaign for it.
FYI, I downvoted you solely for breaking up my comment chain. It's common courtesy to add your reply at the end. That aside, you're again...
[deleted]
framing the problem in a dishonest way. There are many foods that have an undue environmental impact. Some are livestock, others crops. ...
The only thing "meat is murder!" achieves is to harden the positions and cause knee-jerk reactions to all anti-factory farming activism.
Micah408
This the internet. People don't take kindly to non-polarizing opinions, mate. Or to polarizing ones either.
That being said, you explain the issues rather well, and you make a good point. Good job, mate.
Ivain
You. I like you.
rabbiebabbie
Cause its not really about pushing the cause it's about boosting their own social standing by seeming morally superior to their friends
For some. I believe a fair number of them do really believe in the cause but have poor interpersonal communication skills.
It might also help people alleviate their bad conscience for driving a car, buying the latest electronics & producing mountains of garbage.
To be fair, reducing meat consumption is one of the most realistic ways to contribute against climate change.
True. Giving up red meat is right up there with using bicycles & public transportation. The only thing that has an even more positive ...
Good point. Like "yes I buy products that are made with slave labor BUT I don't eat meat!"
DankeBrutus
By applying human concepts to other animals. What some anti-meat people call murder is just called life in the animal kingdom.
No animals torture other animals like we do pigs and chickens.
I was not referring to torturing animals specifically. I don't think animals should be intentionally made to feel pain for the sake of it.
This is in no way intended as an excuse factory farming, but nature is a lot crueller than you think. Many parasites condemn their host...

That being said, you explain the issues rather well, and you make a good point. Good job, mate.

No animals torture other animals like we do pigs and chickens.

I was not referring to torturing animals specifically. I don't think animals should be intentionally made to feel pain for the sake of it.
