I'd shout "wake me up in 3 minutes" and headbutt the ground.

If you get stung, have someone kick you on the balls. That way you push the threshold of pain to the limit, and then you can fly!

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I thought 3 minutes of running on a treadmill was bad

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The same scientists suggest a similar method when stepping on a Lego block at a brisk pace.

Someone needs to post the link to the video of Coyote Peterson being stung by one.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fun fact: the cazadors from Fallout New Vegas are based on these guys

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Been stung twice. Both times ended with me crying like a baby and cussing myself out for being stupid

7 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

about my response.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Does it really only last three minutes? Or does it just get easier to handle after that?

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

It never gets easier

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I only last three minutes

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

How'd it happen?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Picked up a recently dead tarantula only to have a tarantula hawk in it laying eggs and she decided to sting me on the hand

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was camping with my family one crawled into my sleeping bag....

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A study found that tarantula hawks often nestle in fresh cut grass with the level of dampness found on soccer fields

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

They're VERY unlikely to sting people though. Extremely docile and calm, much more likely to just fly away. As long as you don't sit on it.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I dunno mate, I grew up with them around. Not super aggressive, but boy howdy if you ticked one off! Scared me more than widows and wasps.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

+1 for boy howdy

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A severely under rated phrase. Much like, "The Cat's Pajamas". Cheers

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So that's why Nemar does that then. Dude's just probably getting stung be tarantula hawks.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Been there. It was when I was 15 it was brutal but not that bad.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Go find a bullet ant and compare!

I think he was making a reference to a different Tumblr post where they talked about them... your comment is still true tho.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That tarantula looks like a Brachypelma albopilosum. They are super sweet spiders who are little sweetypies and wouldn't hurt a fly.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

....doesn’t hurt a fly?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

.....Are you sure?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

.....the spider doesn’t hurt flies?....

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tarantulas don't eat flies. In the pet trade they eat crickets.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, that is good, then they won't hurt the wasp larva that will soon be feeding on its insides! (Nature is a wee bit brutal)

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Tarantula Hawk Wasp is my state insect. They're everywhere :(

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hope you are wearing your brown pants...

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

The pain goes away and you are left with one hell of an endorphin high. You shake and shudder and you feel kinda sick and numb.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

What is the evolutionary benefit of pain that high? Can't it be like a quick vibration and we just learn not to repeat that behavior???

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Because predators didn't give a fuck . no really google evolutionary arms race

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I think vibration wouldn't be enough to stop us from unhealty behavior, the only way to truly protect ourself is through unbearable signals.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But some of these signals are not self imposed and life long...what is the point then?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Attacker is in incredible pain so the Tarantula Hawk can escape.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

The benefit is it's simpler than pain having an upper limit, and if you're in that much pain you're probably going to die anyway so no point

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Developing a 'useful' pain range either hasn't happened yet or more likely wasn't useful enough to factor in to natural selection.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I dunno man I just work here. The designer isn't in today either so..

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Well most of the time, venom isn't evolved for defensive mechanisms, but to subdue prey. At an evolutionary point,

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

in order to be successful predators they need venom that induces this much pain. Unfortunately, we as "predators" can be caught in the cross

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

fire of this and, since we're not evolved to handle their venom in the slightest, have a severe reaction to their sting

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Venom is rarely for defense, it's usually for prey. Sting is so painful that the animal goes into shock and can't move, then it lays eggs

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Imagine if it was the size of a dog

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fuck Cazadors

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

well, thank you for giving me my new nightmare

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

y tho

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Their sting is "designed" to instantly paralyze a tarantula, and leave it paralyzed until the wasp egg hatches and its larvae consumes it.

7 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

I think they mean for humans.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well their sting evolved to deal with tarantulas. That gave them a super potent, high dose venom load that humans just happen to not handle

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

We can handle it better than tarantulas at least.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hence the question, why can we feel pain too intense to handle?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The nervous system is a host of competing needs, and our pain response is an evolved optima of sensation vs. resistance.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its a venom meant to overwhelm nerve response. We're too big to paralyze, but our receptors are similar enough to still "see" the venom.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They say that if a women is stung by these they can almost imagine what it feels like when men have a cold.

Then you have never had a man cold. Lucky.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

anyone who has survived severe pain: "Bulllllllshit!" I survived a kidney stone that last a fuckton longer than 3 min, and I very much /

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

fear and respect pain, so much so that every time the topic of kidney stones comes up, I go drink a glass of water. Never want one again.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I used to think I was a stud for having survived a kidney stone (by crying and begging my wife to make my unconscious somehow), then I /

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

learned of bullet ants and the irukandji box jelly. GAH!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Passing the stone was weirdly pain free. It moving through my kidney was horrendous though. Felt like a twisting dagger.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I didn't know stones could be felt in the kidney, thought the pain came from passing through one of the ureters. Doesn't matter. sucks.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I concur. A serrated dagger on fire. But my stone got stuck. Yeah. Try that on for size.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think I'll pass. The docs sent me home with morphine. They don't play with the stones.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Had them 3 times. Wanted to die. Imma go drink some water now.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Personally, this is sound logic. Never been busting by one of those but my pain tolerance has increased exponentially...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"oh shit is coming back, RUN!"

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Three *days

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

technically correct, death is the end of pain

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The pain can be so severe that the brain is permanently damaged so it can not fully recover and remains constantly stuck in a pained state.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

That sounds like a heaping load of Facebook mom B.S. right there

7 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 3

https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Peripheral_neuropathy can result from singular traumatic events, such as intense stings.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That is entirely different from what you described. It specifically states lingering pain caused by damage to the nerves.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It never says your brain is "locked" into feeling permanent pain just because you felt a lot of pain somewhere.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 393 Dislikes 11

So the sting is painful but not deadly?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sweet Jesus man. I saw a sheep get stung and it basically went insane for about 5 minutes (before dying of medical shock)

It literally panicked itself to death after being stung and running into a steel fence.

He did it with a bullet ant as well, apparently even more painful. Channel is “brave wilderness” on YouTube or something like that

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But is it worse than when you stretch both legs in bed, and get cramp pains to rival childbirth pains, in BOTH legs at once?

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Yeah and the video shows: it doesnt last 3 min. The worst part is over 30. And he takes over 24 hours to stop feeling it.

7 years ago | Likes 192 Dislikes 0

He's great taking care of the bugs that sting him. At the end of the day, it's not their fault; they're just protecting themselves.

7 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 1

He's like a 21st century Steve Irwin. Always has tremendous respect for the animals and wants to make sure it's safe before he screams

7 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 1

If I were one of these things, I'd honestly just say "What, does 'admire from a safe distance' not apply to you?!"

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's good. He followed the correct procedure.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

yeah, that "whoah gotta get it contained and keep everyone, including the bug safe, ... NOW I can die from pain" is impressive as hell.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

He had to. Since he agitated it he was afraid it would come after the cameraman too.

7 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 0

Cayote Peterson is a boss

7 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

That's not even his worst pain in his life. He made a series where he would be stung by the most painful insects in the world.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

iirc that was only like 2nd or third though.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What was after this one? Bullet ant, right?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I can't remember if this one was worse than the bullet ant or not. The giant desert centipede though was definitely worse.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Been a while since I saw the video, but if I recall, one was more painful, but didn't last as long, and the other vice versa

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the centipede was the only of the sting and bite videos he had to cut early because it got too bad. So yeah, that was definitely the worst

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are super common in southern Colorado. Actually scratch that. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE IN COLORADO! --Colorado board of tourism

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah the area they are common in has a tarantula mating season you have to drive around them on the highway.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The tarantulas are cool though, they usually mind their own business. The wasps are terrifying, so yeah a dome would be good.
