Today, I won't apologise for leaving out the politics tag. No American on this day should be burying their head in the sand.

I didn't even hear about this protest till just now

We had an amazing turnout in blood-red Twin Falls Idaho! If we can do it ANYONE CAN!!

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The majority of Americans still haven’t figured out how this affects them personally (I’m including non voters). It will take months for enough people to start getting hit with layoffs, realize that prices are higher, less service anywhere…. They just aren’t paying attention yet

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Americans must prevent another Munich tragedy. The orange fucktwat is sweeping off three years of valiant Ukrainian sacrifices off the table. This must not happen. Internationally recognized borders need to be restored.

It amazes me how local media here in NC isn't saying jack shit about all the people downtown protesting here or in the big metro one county over, either. I just got back home and... crickets in media. Sad they all sold out like that.

Seattle protest was huge

I'm really sorry, y'all, I don't have transportation to get to my state capitol

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Today's protest was at your state capitol building, or your city hall, whichever you can make it to.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Local PHX AZ NBC TV affiliate had footage, commentary, short interview with some leftist. There was a variety of movements there. Veterans, Native Americans, Trans kids, Black Power, Communists, Federal Workers, Labor honks, Pro immigrant, and more. No fazzshists showed up. No Anarchy Kids either - they're trouble. Fun time

I was there today but I don't begrudge people who can't or dont want to take the risk. We all resist in our ways

Good turnout in Austin TX still need more people showing up, another protest on woman's day March 8 and there is a federal workers protest this coming Wednesday

We are past the point of peaceful protests working. Fascists don't give up power peacefully.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Interesting note, Chrome actually blocked the site providing information on the protests. I know this because other users on Reddit had access via VPN and I did after installing Duckduckgo.
If it weren't important, they wouldn't be fighting us.

"If it weren't important, they wouldn't be fighting us". I've heard that before somewhere, and boy does it make sense.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Hope is a choice, and I haven't given up yet.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm snowed in. I feel guilty.

1 year ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Help spread the word about it, encourage people to participate

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't waste any time on guilt. You don't deserve it and it doesn't help. Spend just 10 minutes talking to friends about this, finding out ways to organize and participate that don't require showing up in person. Think about what is most important to you about democracy, focus on that. This is a huge subject and it's easy to get overwhelmed. None of us has to do it all. Heck, even organizing a bake sale or a twitch benefit gaming event helps!

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

This right here. We also got a ton of snow and had lots of road closes today. Couldn't make to my local courthouse let alone my state capital. We made lots of extra signs today to hand out for the next rally.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gee, it sure would be nice to get notice of these things BEFORE THE DAY OF, AT 6PM, WHEN IT'S ALREADY HAPPENED. Fuck's sake, how the fuck do people find out about these things? I want to be involved, but I don't hear about shit until right before or just after it happens.

As a Kiwi living in New Zealand, I knew this protest was coming up for over a week. If you watch out for them, you will find the info. Here's some info a fellow American of yours shared:

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

While I don't disagree with the feeling behind this post, I will disagree with its call to protest, specifically because, as a political scientist I can tell you that the LEAST effective way to foment political change is to protest.
Now that said, we won't talk about the most effective ways to create political change, as many are locked behind violence, but I will tell you that in terms of peaceful political change your best bets are two things; Boycotts and Strikes. So look up the product(1/2)

1 year ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

Boycotts: worthless without massive cooperation. The key is rolling withdrawals of service. Imagine if 1/2-3/4 of the services and businesses were either closed or crippled for lack of employees, for even a day. And then it happened again a week later. Then it was two days

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Boycotts - worthless without massive cooperation. A crowd with signs for one day that the politicians can completely ignore - priceless

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

s that you buy and see what ways the corporations behind them donate their profits. Ideally you'll find replacements within financial reach that don't contribute to the degradation of our political society
Second, in terms of strikes, it is great to stop work and arrest corporations abilities to profit, but even if you can't form a group to do it, or are reasonably too afraid, taking sick days or off days in a way to reduce the businesses efficiency is a stand you can still take. Stay safe

Your link is on the list of links I sent to a couple of my country's main news sites, asking them to please amplify your voices to the world, and to shine a light on the suppression taking place in the media, what with Zuckerberf/Bezos/Musk in charge of so much of it. I've asked people around the world to write to their news outlets, to publish that which your leaders don't want to have published. I wish you best of luck. May democracy prevail.

We're the people who just wanna live our lives, do our jobs, hug our kids, have bbq's in the back yard and who think the best use of the US military is to show up with aid when disasters strike, or defense against dictators. Hard to drop what you're doing when that thing is looking after your kids. Schools and daycare were all closed today. I've been at previous protests and wanted to go today but I wouldn't take a 3yo to one.

Glad others were able to make it but it's not an option for everyone.

1 year ago | Likes 205 Dislikes 7

Let's encourage others instead of excusing. This is the Pro-Democracy protest in Moscow, on a Saturday, in January. Use it as inspiration. It is possible.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It's okay! It's difficult for people to get to marches (especially in this weather). But there are some upcoming events that you can participate in that don't require marching:

1 year ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

It's part of why they're so hellbent on everyone having kids in the first place. It's not just for the economy, it's not just to control women, it's for how much it limits resistive action. Take care of your kids, show up when you can. Leave the riskier more consequential stuff to those of us who don't have to put lil ones in danger to do so.

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Same, especially 3ht drive to stand in -10F for hours. Would do that myself but not with kiddos. Will definitely go as soon as I can.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

no shame in that. There's more than one way to fight. Love your kids, teach them the value of love, of liberty, of democracy.

1 year ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

For those of us that can't go (deep responsibilities, disabilities, outside the U.S., etc.) we must continue to spread the word. An hour or two dedicated to making this information as viral as possible is just as important.

1 year ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 1

This! Check your representative's website, their voting record - call them - and be sure to compliment them on something specific they've done that you like. More of that, please! It can be demoralizing to hear nothing but anger and demands and complaints.

1 year ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

What if they have not done anything you like....my rep is Ron Johnson

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hey Rep. Johnson, I note on your record that you have meticulously obeyed the laws of thermodynamics without a single failure. Wow! No one else could have done it better, and I mean that with absolute sincerity.

Now, about your actual JOB...

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I went to one. Glad I did.

I was at the protest today. I support them and still won't force people who need reprieve to do what I do.

1 year ago | Likes 288 Dislikes 8

Exactly. I think mutual aid is more important than being at every protest anyway. We need to be able to feed, shelter, and care for each other so that a significant number of us can withhold our labor for a meaningful amount of time.

I wanted to go to mine (in Kentucky), but a) I got my covid & flu shot yesterday and I'm feeling it today, I stayed home from work; and b) it's very cold today, about 18°F at noon.

Hey friend, I was at Frankfort today. And I didn't know it until just now, but I was there for you. And for everyone else who wanted to be there but couldn't. We're in this together and we're all doing what we can. There's no shame in needing a break. In fact, rest is crucial. Recover well, and I'll see you soon (whether we know it or not).

I spent a good chunk of time in college organizing a divestment movement, attending and organizing rallies around the state. I design utility scale solar and have a family. In other words I've put in my time, and I am currently making a difference. It's time for the next generation / full timers to take the reigns. I will gladly support and attend but my point stands they need to get better at getting the word out and beating the algorithm to reach a wider audience.

I don't know much about this news site, but it's showing some news about the protests. I hope Americans will keep sharing this kind of stuff out. Apparently many don't even know they are supposed to be protesting today. https://www.usatoday.com/picture-gallery/news/politics/2025/02/17/presidents-day-protests-rally-against-trump-administration-policies/78976704007/

1 year ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 14

My first time hearing of it and you posted it like right when it was happening... the media isn't reporting on it, obviously. Most of us need enough notice to call out of work, others need enough time to catch a bus. There are probably upcoming protests we can post about instead of reposting ones that people missed already, just so more people can make it. Thanks for the info tho ofc.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That was posted today. Are people supposed to teleport to the protests the moment they hear of it?? Pay attention.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

There’s other people than Americans on this app, your post isn’t tagged as political, and other reasons exist why people may downvote you. Why are you assuming Americans are downvoting you? lol your comments on this thread are kind of wild.

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

"Kind of wild", to speak your language, is being in the position at all to beg the American People to not go full Nazi on the rest of us in the world. Kind of wild that of all the things you had to contribute to this post, on this day, was that comment. You do you though.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 13

I think they're getting down voted bc of reading the sources and seeing what else OP is ranting about. The news source doesn't really tell us anything other than everyone protested on presidents day. Which is really cool but like why nit be proud about the percentage of people who heard and showed up and then like spread some real resources for future protests? It kinda comes off like they're just looking to moan, not actually help 😬

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Not near big enough, but we gotta start somewhere.

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

True, we literally need millions in the streets, followed by nationwide rolling strikes. We have the power to bring the fascists to their knees, if we choose to use it. But this is how it starts

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Another thing we need to remember is that we didn't get INTO this mess overnight, and we're not gonna get OUT of it overnight either.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agreed. But we need to fight hard to reverse the arbitrary department cuts (ex: Yosemite National Park has stopped taking reservations due to staffing concerns). The structure of our government, the rule of law and respect for the constitution must be immediately restored. If not, it's going to get, and needs to get, ugly

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We had a few thousand people at our Portland Oregon protest. People driving by were honking their horns in the hundreds. Only two trump supporters showed up to cause trouble, thankfully nothing happened. They were significantly outnumbered.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

Don't kid yourself, he's absolutely a dictator. He's acting with impunity, violating the law and the constitution, gutting a government built bilaterally over generations. There is currently a private citizen that's been handed the keys to the federal government, and if something isn't done will like be the de facto president with a puppet on the throne. This is Marvel dystopian bad guy level shit.

Don’t expect MSM to cover the resistance, at least until it’s profitable and they stop being afraid of Boss Hogg and Skum. Americans are going to have to find safe spaces for organizing and communicating, since FB and X are not. This was to get the momentum going, inspire others to action, and show that the people can’t be stopped. Keep it up America, we’re all rooting for you!

On a completely unrelated note, when you are making a Molotov cocktail, don't stuff a rag inside and light it. Use a sparkler, or a bit of fuse wrapped around the neck of the closed bottle. It's much safer. Don't forget your masks, and don't film anything! And if you do, don't film faces!

Your comment seems to be implying that Murdoch owns the New York Times...

He does not. Posting an image (from a source I'm not familiar with) doesn't convince me that "NYT is actually our enemy now". People on Imgur are smart enough to look at reputable independent media bias ranking sites such as allsides or adfontesmeda.

https://www.allsides.com/media-bias/media-bias-chart

The picture has no bearing on why the NYT would be considered an enemy anyways. Biden's age and mental well being for the 5 month period of time between Jan-Jun 24 being the basis of articles, while he was the president, during the ramp up to the election?

Does anyone remember when Kamala entered the race? Does anyone remember the democrats replacing Biden for Kamala due to these EXACT reasons?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. My comment is implying that the NYT is similar to the WSJ in that analysis (which it is) and THAT paper is owned by Murdoch.

But go ahead, keep thinking the editors at the NYT actually care about the truth when they clearly instruct their reporters to only focus on what they're allowed to.

It's because our social media is being heavily censored. The current administration doesn't want to highlight any of the protests. It takes a lot to get people moving, and only a fraction of us have access to the information which is getting out. We can do our best to tell our family and friends, to get out there ourselves, but ... it's difficult. We'll keep trying, but it's difficult.

1 year ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

Social media circles are key, including OUTSIDE the U.S. The more viral it can become, the harder it becomes to suppress.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Memeify it. Make soundbytes. Spam if you have to. Take Steve Bannon's own advice and focus on muzzle velocity. Hit them hard, fast and constantly. Each new person that hears about it becomes a "carrier" of this viral load and can then spread it to another person. Momentum is key.
