Title edit: *IT won't matter.

MAGA eats up the lies, and you won't be able to convince them otherwise. Im still glad it's happening nonetheless.

Problem is that Trumpers refuse to believe anything but what Trump or one of his Pravda knock-offs tells them.

These need to look more patriotic. Seriously. They need to be red white and blue with an eagle and MAGA imagery and then they’ll trust it.

I have one of these billboards right by my house!

It's not for maggots. It's for everyone else.

And you know some folks read it as "tariffs are a tax paid for by Canada" ....

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They should have been more emphatic. "Paid for by the Mother Fucking Government of Canada"

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I'm worried that this will just come off to the Maga yards "well of course Canada would say that" sort of thing

Sorry, Canada, a good effort, but if these people were moved by facts or logic, we wouldn't be in this position.

I mean, if the people in Red States could read, these might be effective.

Saw this today in my red state and read it… then again I’m blue and can read. Boy did I laugh

No, they'd scream fake news.

I had a lady tell my mom that when my mom was telling her that she was worried about losing her social security. You can't argue with people who literally choose to reject reality and call it fake.

They can read. It’s not a skill issue. It’s a choosing to remain ignorant issue.

Literacy is more than just figuring out what sounds the letters make...

I know this condescending attitude feels good in the moment, but you know you are just underestimating your enemy (who has a coherent ideology and intends to act on it) as well as justifying the suffering of the many people held captive in red states through no fault of their own.

I am not underestimating their threat, I am accurately stating their ability to read new information, process it and change their minds based on new information... I have literally seen these people disregard sections of things that they claim to hold dear, because they do not confirm their worldview (e.g. the Gospel of Mathew)

There's no underestimation happening, we know they're stupid, and know how many of them there are.

No legitimately https://www.visualcapitalist.com/adult-literacy-rates-us-states-map/ we know its not everyone... but its enough that its causing a genuine problem. Yes the people leading them have a coherent ideology but the reason they contradict themselves and doublespeak and pander is because it fools people who are poorly educated.

2. I know educational performance (for white majorities especially) is lower in red states. It’s a huge problem, but glib “these inbreds can’t even read” comments that I see all over this site and blue sky are just elitist. It is a coping mechanism to stay sane in an evil nation, yes, but it is not an attempt to be in solidarity with the oppressed.

So I’m from Minnesota (2nd place in that data you shared). In 2019 (shortly after your data was aggregated) this state was ranked worst in the nation for racial educational disparities by the department of education. That data you show hides a lot of white peuple being really well served and native and black people in particular being viciously screwed in this highly segregated state. This is one reason why we must not treat illiteracy as a personal moral failure.

Tariffs are ideally a way to encourage domestic industry. By making things more expensive to outsource.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

More info: They are a way to allow a mainstay industry some breathing room to catch up with outside advancements. For example if we grow XYZ food because our climate is the only way to do it, but another country learns how to farm it inside a greenhouse, then a tariff could give growers time to finish their current crop and switch to greenhouses. Or when germany/japan learned a cheaper way to make steel, a tariff was used to give american steel time to build new steel mills with new tech 1/?

BUT... american steel didnt build facilities with new tech and has lost its oppressive lead to only being the 3rd largest steel producer. (and often of less money efficient steels too). You're basically just buying time and hoping your industries catch up. If they don't try to catch up then they stagnate and the whole industry collapses when the tarriffs come down, or when the competition outperforms the tariffs. The taxpayers are literally buying time. 2/?

None of the tariffs are being used to protect an industry. If we close down a factory in america to outsource it to china then we don't have an industry to protect from china. I can't state how to build industry in america, but tariffs are not it. 3/3
