You know there's Finnish folk sport called "eukon kanto" Which literally means "wife carrying", you carry your spouse (or volunteer) across obstacle course and if you win, you get their weight in beer....
Knowing Karlach is a big girl, I know for a fact that as a big guy, she can still cary me F. way, although, I've always wanted to be carried like that.
Have you installed any mods? Updated to the latest driver for your video card? Perhaps launching it in Vulkan mode instead of DirectX mode? (or vice versa)
I’ve not got a picture but, “keep that pretty little chin up soldier, the sun’s gonna rise just like it always should. Just stick close to Mama K, and everything’ll be okay.” That sound about right?
The Jaheira one is accurate. I always liked her character in BG2 and she's fucking hilarious in BG3 if you joke with her about being old she will sass you right back.
She'd start off carrying Gale like E but end up carrying him like F because he is, in fact, a precious baby man & *the* romanceable character who will not only stay with you if you become a worm but proudly marry said worm complete with a fancy worm wedding with the best worm food served.
I always have to ask Gale fans... what do you think about the scene where he whips his dick out without asking? I really couldn't get past that scene myself. What's your take on it?
This is hilarious but also deep gale slander. as a horrible gale craving pervert I tried every trick in the book to see that nerds peen and I can assure all it does not happen until after act 2 :P
I just got BG3 recently and Karlach is the best. She's got some absolutely fantastic dialog and she's written so you actually want to give a shit about her. The VA sells all of it.
I think the thing about a lot of the bg3 companions is they all have the capacity for good *or* evil, and a lot of them that seem evil at the start have just been conditioned. As you play through their story you find more about them and how they're not evil, just shaped by circumstances and actually can blossom into such *human* characters, and I find all of those cases to be very well-written as characters and I love them so much. Conversely, another example is Wyll, who is just a stalwart (1)
guy. This makes him likeable of course, and at the start I admire his goodness the most. But that's all it is, you know? His story simply involves being forced into evil deeds due to circumstances really beyond his control. As a "character growth" angle, I find that really boring. But Karlach, she stands out among the cast as a character that's fully good but still shows a lot of character growth. When you meet her, she just seems like (and is) a happy-go-lucky tough girl with a heart of gold.(2)
But as you progress her story, you learn that she became who she is because she *had* to to survive, and deep down she's just a little girl that wants to *live*, and when she finally achieves the goal she'd been pursuing this whole time she breaks down in the face of the reality of the engine, because she just wants to *live*. Her story had me sobbing at the end, such was the pure emotion her actress presented. I was so impressed at what they did with so many of the characters in bg3. (3/3)
That's actually not original content. I can understand why people pushed on Larian to update alternate fates for Karlach, because she is the most precious bean. I feel that while Wyll is the "best of us" of the companions, Karlach is, despite the things she mentioned she wanted to do when she got to cool off, is in a way, the most innocent of the party. Even if you look past her staggering amounts of copium
Glad i never got to play it without that ending then. I would've rioted if there was no "happy" ending for her. Also what makes Wyll the best of us? I never really liked him
As I understood his character, he was the most virtious and dutiful. Oh, yeah. As I recall, Karlach's ultimate fate before the patches/content updates were to... well, fatally burn out, and all you could do was be there and and comfort her.
Fun fact: Halsin is not strong enough to carry Karlach in D&D 5e. His strength score of 10 means he can only carry 150 lbs, and Karlach is canonically 180. I guess it's lucky for him that BG3 uses its own weight capacity system.
Halsin's stats get nerfed if you recruit him because game balance. Otherwise he has a STR of 16, his second highest stat. It also makes zero sense for the archdruid to be whatever low level people usually get him, but it would be absurd to just drop a high-level druid in your party.
D&D stats for STR have never made sense. According to their tables, Halsin can carry 150lbs and move 300lbs based on his 10 STR. Karlach with a 17 can carry 255lbs and move 510lbs.
This means that even with a strength of 8, you can carry 120lbs. So if the average human IRL (like non-athletic and grabbed off the street) can carry maybe 80lbs and move 160lbs, the average human has a STR score of 5.
So even at "only" a 10, Halsin is considered a trained athlete compared to average people.
With a STR of 5 and a negative modifier of -3 on any STR check, that means if you need to open a pickle jar with a difficulty of 3, then you have only a 75% chance of success. (10% based on difficulty and 15% from your negative)
Which makes sense in terms of math and logic, but in D&D they never clearly explain that having a 10 is considered above average and already into more hero-tier territory.
So, in a world of fantasy, we're all just 5's and Olympic athletes are 10+
Today I thought about Halsin's build (mechanical) and looked at Halsin's build (visual) and realized that he's an example of body sculpting versus strength training.
Karlach can carry about 4 dead tieflings at a time, I rounded up all the dead tieflings and brought them to (the town in act 2, barren light or something I can't remember) I made a big pile of them and everyone kept crying about how they were gone I'm like yoooo, bury your dead!
Especially given that Minsc' whole schtick in the previous BG games was being dumb and strong 18/?? Strength score meant he was a powerhouse in the first game
yeah, Minsc' stats are entirely in service of his class, as BG3 uses fixed point-buy. Thankfully Withers will let you not only reclass but change the stat array
Yeah, you can make him a strength Ranger even easily enough, like he was back in BG 1 and 2, though giving him high wisdom, which is useful for the class, feels weird for the character
granted he kind of strikes me as kind of a wise fool in BG3 once you get him, he's very naive and book-dumb, but he has kind of a good read on people but he definitely has been through a lot between BG2 and 3
Jaheira (10) has less STR than Minsc (12). But that's the only time the rule doesn't hold. Every other female party member has 13+ and the other male ones have 10 and below.
Ah, Jaheira starts with 15 strength according to the wiki, but then reverts to 10 strength when recruited. I think that's my mistake, shouldn't be counting their stats when not recruited.
That's because Rogue(astarion), Wizard(Gael), Warlock(Will), Druid(Halsin), Ranger(Minsc) are all NOT strength based classes, though I agree both Halsin and Minsc should have minimum 14 strength based on their character models alone.
It does, but he's also the most stat-flexible class in the game. Moon Druid only needs high Wisdom, the rest of their stats only really apply to skill checks.

Doesn't Shadowheart explicitly say that one part of her wants to be carried over the shoulder, like Minthara is in this list?
ZoBrightlance
Yes, the first time you meet Karlach, she mentions that Karlach looks strong enough to sweep her off her feet and carry her.

No mods. Done all those things. Just doesn't work for me. Can't find a fix.

Doesn't this just mean he's heavily encumbered with -20 speed and disadvantage on a number of types of checks? He can still carry her.

He'd be sweating at a 5' per round speed with a fireman carry, princess carry would be right out.

moonshadowkati
I agree, just going with the stated number..
MotherEffinSatan
sgnight13
And respeccing 😘
moonshadowkati
I respecced and gave him 16 str, but it kinda ruins his build. Strength is the least needed stat for a druiid.
4vie
So Halsin's muscles are basically just all volume, no density?
moonshadowkati
Impossibly so. His arms are as thick as Shadowheart's head but she can win in arm wrestling?
4vie
Narrative VS gameplay discontinuity....
JayDeeDubs
Halsin's strength is whatever the player wants it to be. Though it is ridiculous that both he and Minsc have low default strength
TinaEveFox
Karlach can carry about 4 dead tieflings at a time, I rounded up all the dead tieflings and brought them to (the town in act 2, barren light or something I can't remember) I made a big pile of them and everyone kept crying about how they were gone I'm like yoooo, bury your dead!
kbryant414
Before he joins the party, Minsc has 20 STR (and 6 WIS) if you Examine him. After he joins the party, he gets the default stat spread for a Ranger.

justfiguredoutimc4azyanddumbb
That's kinda hot
4vie
Such is the stats of the class, not the character itself....
Outlavv
Your stats are the stats of the character? The class is nothing to do with it. A wizard with 18 str would be absolutely roided out with huge muscles
4vie
But what does a Wizard need with a strength score of 18?
darkhalfbreed
I mean all the male characters are casters or Dex users; the female characters are martial classes or casters that benefit from a little strength.
FallWind
Jaheira (10) has less STR than Minsc (12). But that's the only time the rule doesn't hold. Every other female party member has 13+ and the other male ones have 10 and below.

Minsc used to be a STRanger, but they changed him for BG3. He has 20 STR in actual DnD.
moonshadowkati
Lower than Shadowheart! It's just weird. :D
7layerstorm
High str is a req for some armor types also str is a dump stat for druids so it makes sense at least in the ttrpg sense.
moonshadowkati
It does, but he's also the most stat-flexible class in the game. Moon Druid only needs high Wisdom, the rest of their stats only really apply to skill checks.
darkhalfbreed
She is a cleric, she needs strength for armor
kyro
Meanwhile Shadowheart's default wisdom is ridiculously low.
moonshadowkati
17...?
kyro
That is my mistake. I was conflating her low INT and early Firebolt struggles with her WIS.
