I'm a science teacher, language is important, this made me cringe... because its is oh so terrifyingly true...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

and there are a depressing number of 'educated adults' in the world who will see nothing wrong here

"Would of"... as a non-english speaking person, why do you English persons accept this to become a vernacular usage?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

GG, Ms. Jenkins.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I just spent two hours yesterday teaching 20+ year old on basic grammar so maybe I'll use something like his next.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are people out there that won't get this. And that's not good.

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

How long have you been out of school? This could literally be any grade that writes anything.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

@homophone

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What the hell is homophones replacing?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If 2 words sound the same but mean something else and the person uses the wrong one. Such as I know him v.s. I no him

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know the definition of the word. I meant what word is it replacing? "No" is replacing "know" in your example.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On one hand, it's terrible. On the other, I could understand it. There are a lot of people who both can't spell and form coherent sentences.

I got through most of it, but then "you're" hurt my insides

Tale and tell are not homophones. Not in any accent I can think of, anyway.

8 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 12

Fairly close in California.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Come to Appalachia. Be awed by our ability to make new homophones. And dont even get me started on the rare Appalachian silent "L"...

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yea, in Idaho they are. We also have many many many "For Sell" signs to marvel over.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've seen it done. (English prof for 13 years)

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You should have heard my grandmother call my stepmom. "Hello, Sayandy? Thiyis is Beyetsy." Southerners and their extra Y inserts, man.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Born and raised in VA and I say them the same haha.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am here to say this, from Georgia.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Same with when and win

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

When sounds just like win in Georgia.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Southerners absolutely say win instead of when.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I wish we could stop equating spelling errors with intelligence, I'm guilty of it too, but I try to look past it, some wisdom isn't in books

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

And this is coming from a bibliophile. My new way of looking at it is if a person can understand what you mean or not

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

This teacher is doing an excellent job, IMO. Spelling and grammar are important. Language evolves, but we should still teach the basics.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

One of my bosses was dreadful with spelling, but he was easily the best manager I have had; he was in his 1st year of it too.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have the same problem, but some people really write wrong on purpose and it's just horrible...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

R u trying to say sum ppl jus dunno wut there doin wen they is righting becuz they is lazy??

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Those aren't spelling errors. Those are the wrong words.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sure it all comes back to a grammar but I stick by my point, just cause u used the wrong word, incorrect spelling etc doesn't mean ur stupid

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I guess my main issue is pedants confusing the tree for the forest

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

It does, however indicate a certain lack of care or effort.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Your use of punctuation is concerning.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Word, I make no excuses but I was on the throne writing this and it all just felt right
