I wish i could post pic of my penis under a microscope and call it a dickonite.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's too small.. on a semirelated note, there is a mineral called cummingtonite

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

morphodite

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, is pyromorphite the love child of the human torch and a mighty morphing power ranger?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Precisely

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd be cool to see the pics compared to normal photos of the minerals. Good stuff though

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a good idea for next time!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh god, I'm so rock hard right now

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah, one of these days I'll cave and post more

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For reference, how big are the pieces of mineral before you put them into your microscope?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well they are the same size no matter where I put them ;) but these pictures have a field of view from 5 mm-1 cm and 20 or 40× magnification

Fuck Arizona, Arizona sucks! Reason: I live in fucking Arizona

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Arizona is ass, but there is something about it that I love. Reason: I live in fucking Arizona

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel your pain bro. It sucks

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Opal isn't a mineral, my dude. It's a mineraloid. You've been geonerded.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shhhh you're embarasing me in front of my friends!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't lie, the arizona vandinite is actually a close up of pepperoni from those $1.29 pizzas at walmart.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Shit....

I have to take optical mineralogy this winter. -minerals have unique patters in thin sections.

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Same

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

PLMs are amazing and beautiful to look through. There is so much you can do with them.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they don't teach you about Kohler illumination, look up how to do it yourself. Much improved resolution.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Taking a test is great when you're colorblind, trust me!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Optical mineralogy is hella fun

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

PLMs are amazing. There is so much you can do with them.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm taking sed/strat and all we look at are carbonates and fossils in thin section. Enjoy optical while you can.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I found strat/sed and sed pet kind of boring compared to ig/met and optical mineralogy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm in CA. I literally have every geologic field example within a short drive.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, same here. Death Valley is pretty diverse in the different types of outcrops present

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was a geology major for a while but never got to thin sections, seems really interesting!

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Opal isnt expensive, why dont we see more Opal made products??

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Opal actually can be pretty expensive, it all depends on the particular stone. The variety/ammount of color, size, locality all contribute

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Opal can lose its' lustre and fire if it dries out, and opal with very nice fire in it (i.e., black opal) can be expensive as shit

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What made you change/stop?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

School isn't for me, there is no point sinking money into something you don't want to put effort into. I still absolutely love geology tho

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

well, I plan to make a career out of it. Due to the retirement of baby boomers, the job market there is set to explode.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do it, if I don't make a career out of the Air Force, I'm going back to school and will try to get a job in petroleum

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice! Currently in NM on a rock hounding trip. Rocks and minerals are awesome.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What are you looking for?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We're kinda all over the place just adding to our (my girlfriend and I) collection. We're on one last trip before my dialysis starts.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have fun! There are few things more rewarding than pulling your own stones out of the ground. And good luck with dialysis, get hounding soon

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you! Not much competes with the fun of rock hunting!
