i was 20 years old and working at my summer job, drinking with a co-worker. we thought it was cool and no big deal. i don't remember when i blacked out, or driving home, but i did. it was the single biggest regret of my life, especially when i think of all the damage i could have caused. i haven't driven while impaired since, and still feel bad about it every day.

edit: i know i didn't damage anything since i woke up in bed at home and there were zero signs of damage to the car. i am now 30 and it's still my biggest regret.

FP edit: send cute cats.

I did this once when I was 21 and it still makes me sick to my stomach thinking back on how stupid it was.

My dad refuses to touch alcohol after blacking out and driving his friends home when he was 18. You're lucky, don't waste perspective.

I've done the same stupid shit and I regret it as well.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I did it when I was 21 7 years ago. I'm just so happy I didn't hurt anyone and it was a big wake up call.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think I did that every other day for a year or two. Never got caught but totalled a couple cars..Glad I'm past that

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did the same thing once. Scared me so bad I promised that I'd never do it again. I couldn't live with myself if I hurt someone.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Did this once. Thought it was a weird dream until I saw the white mark on my hood from hitting a flexible reflector lining a ditch. So close

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

16 years ago I woke up in my truck. In my garage. No idea how I got there. Still drunk the next morning. Never again.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You live a charmed life if your greatest regret is the night something bad could have, but did not, happen.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My neighbor lost both his adult sons b/c they were driving drunk. Person they hit came out unscathed though. I will never drive drunk now.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If this was the biggest mistake of your life your doing pretty good so far.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Guilty. It makes me feel horrible. Never again.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Id say pretty much Everyone getting fast food after midnight is drunk driving. .

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I believe you

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It seems like you learned from your mistake, which is the really important thing.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why would you regret this every day of your life? why would you feel bad every day? shit happens at least you learned from it..move on..

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I did this on a bottle of wine and tab of LSD. Not good.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've done this, thank you for the reminder.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I blacked out and drove home once. No idea why my friends didn't stop me. I came to on my deck smoking a cigarette, no idea how I got there.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I once woke up on the couch and didn't know how I got home. Looked out the window and saw my car. I called my friends and they said

9 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 0

I was too drunk to drive so someone drove my car home and helped me get inside. I have good friends, be a good friend to others.

9 years ago | Likes 105 Dislikes 0

Perfect suspense builder between those two comments

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I like that I could upvote this twice! Keep those friends around!

"Once" noob

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

You fucked up, but you got lucky. Don't wallow in it, learn from it and don't do it again. Internalize it, keep it close, but move on.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Guilt is useful OP. Keeps you from wanting to repeat a mistake. Shame is useless. It means "I am a mistake"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You sound wise

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never done it, but I have got so drunk I didn't find my car for 3 days....

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Dude where's my car.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I did that.parked it in BFE as a Drunk Driving deterrent. Can't drive drunk if you're too drunk to remember where you hid it from yourself

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

We clearly have the ability to see into the future. We are X-Men

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

BFE?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Butt f*cking Egypt"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At least you learned from it and didn't do it again.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I once came out of a heroin nod and realised I'm riding my scooter... Yes, I had a real bad accident the same month.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In case you read that? Don't worry, I haven't done heroin for 9 years now. :)

Uber and Lyft

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agreed, but Uber wasnt around 10 years ago and usually only metropolitan areas have public transport or taxis

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I kinda meant like what to do now if you indulge. ☺️

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Samesies. Have never done it again. It was a very poor decision and I'm glad nobody got hurt because of it

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Me too, once. The deadly 'too drunk to realise you are too drunk to drive' state is noone's friend

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Life lesson - define your mistakes not by outcomes, but by decisions. Good decision makers come out on top in the end.

Screenshotting your wisdom my friend

I like this. Literally did this IRL:

Life lessons from a poker table. Results oriented thinking will get you into trouble.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Indeed I do play a lot of poker. Used to stream big online tourney sweats on twitch 3 times a week, hope to again soon.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is also true in Magic The Gathering

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I might have lifted the idea from Limited Resources.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Go on...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can play a hand correctly and lose. Just because you lost doesn't mean you made a mistake and should change anything about the next time

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the contrary is true. If you make a mistake and win you shouldn't do it the same way next time.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait until you wake up not knowing how you got home, and the motorcycle you rode is in the garage.

9 years ago | Likes 354 Dislikes 7

I can't even walk when I drink too much let alone get back on my bike. That's impressive but I hope you've never done it again.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Amazing what our body can do with limited short term memory shutoff

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In Mexico.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea that's pretty scary.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dude ive done this. Scared me so bad. Have not drove drunk sense. Itvwas my wake-up

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I did that while dead tired once. I didn't remember the ride at all. Wondering how I got home was a terrifying thought. Never again.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Especially when you don't own a motorcycle.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It's even scarier when you realize you aren't in your house and you don't own a motorcycle.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Im 12y and biggest mistake is running mazabi up in my nose.....

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Trevor?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wasn't black out but pretty close and had my best friend follow me home on my bike. Called him the next day asking why he let me.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Granted, should've been smart enough not to in the first place. My fault and can't blame it on him.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

can i use this as a song lyric?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have at it ;)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

thank you

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

can i use this as a song ltric?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I fairly regularly don't know how I get home. Drunk me is an asshole but at least he knows all the back roads that no one's on at 3am.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

Or you could not drive...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Again, drunk me is an asshole. It's less I don't care about others and more I don't care about myself.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Been there.woke up just inside my door in full gear.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Not gonna condone it because I've done it once, but at least you wear in full gear. I'm not an ATGATT person yet

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Wish I still had pics from my wreck. My R6 fit in the back of a ranger with a toolbox in the bed. Slid 700ft at 60mph+

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Jesus man. Glad you're alright after that. I'll start one day but hoping before I go down and not after. Gonna happen to everyone

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's disturbing how many people are admitting to driving fucked up.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 4

It's quite normal in South Africa

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live in a city where a lot of people do it, often. I drive very defensively

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I live in Vegas .... so, yeah

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bike home drunk the pizza guys are used to it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In 2013, 28.7 millions Americans aged 12 or older (10.9%) drove under the influence of alcohol at least once.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not to excuse anything but I'm not seeing a definition of "under the influence" here - could mean a beer at dinner and driving hours later

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

t's self-reported, so might be that. Nevertheless I expect the number of people driving blackout drunk to be smaller but roughly 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

proportional to the numbers in that report. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Numbers go as high as 20.7% for the 26-29 age bracket, so I imagine there's a decent amount of such drivers in imgur's demographic.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For whomever is interested, plots and link to the source can be found at /a/1U6k7

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

almost like alcohol lowers your inhibitions and people do things they normally wouldn't do

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 4

Or maybe people are immature, selfish cunts.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Yea I'm sure you're an angel

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

that's also true

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've been drunk tons and never drove drunk, so idk bro

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

take the high road all you want, I'm just pointing out the known fact that alcohol lowers inhibitions. not saying it's right to drive drunk

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Getting drunk doesn't force anyone behind the wheel of a car

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

How about *police car you drove?

9 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 0

I drunkenly stole a horse once, didn't make it too far

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good Will Hunting reference?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What about *attack chopper you flew?

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

What about the submarine you commandeered?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't worry about that. Missiles, spacecraft, and other flying objects are covered under my renters. HOA doesn't say I can't either soooo...
