We live off of narratives. We tell each other - and ourselves - stories about everything. We see patterns we do not understand, and we make up stuff to control them. Rain dances and dowsing, sacrifices and obeisances, lucky shorts and attending church on Sundays so God knows you love him. It's all about the narratives.
Ah a true existentialist! I guess a lot of people wish that their actions were contributing to something more important. Or maybe they imagine themselves being judged and they want to know what the criteria for that judgement might be.
The ultimate answer to life, the universe and everything is 42, and 6*7 does indeed equal 42. However, the ultimate QUESTION of life, the universe and everything, whose answer is established to be 42, is explicitly stated in the books as “What do you get when you multiply six by nine?”
I was taking the general point from the book's inside joke that people were using for their comments to immature levels since 6*9 looked like 69 by moving onto the 6 7 thing kids do. Don't worry, it wasn't funny at all and I accept that.

If you’re living a joyful and fulfilling life, you probably won’t wonder “what’s the point? Reason?” as much. :)
