Sounds like a fuel flow issue. Could be in the carb jets. I'd change the fuel filter first, because it's cheap and it might work

She’s using “traditional grip”. Marching drummers hang their snare at an angle, and this grip makes it easier to play with your left hand.

Traditional grip comes from when drums used to be carried at an angle on a sling. Now they're mostly kept level by a rigid harness
