My wife and I had friendsgiving with our fellow 30+ year old friends on the 24th. Half the people there are single women and none of us have children. We all agreed it was the best thanksgiving we'd ever had. I will say that staying single for a lot of people is really depressing, but that doesn't necessarily mean cishet marriage. Technically, despite being cishet myself, I'm not even in a cishet marriage since my wife is non binary and bi. And our room mates are a bi transwoman and her bi gf
Why, as a man, am I expected or encouraged to have children any less than a woman? This man would probably shit on single father's as readily as he tells women to be single mothers.
So in his world women are somehow very easy to influence and then only realise they made a mistake at 35. Also not having kids means they're single...hmm
I’m 35, single, with a fabulous career (and no children). Some days it’s lonely, but I make up for it with all the disposable income and free time at my disposal. Kids would be cool one day too.
My mum was popping out kids til her mid 40s, my sister is considering a second kid at 43. Unlike what this guy thinks: it ain't like you hit 35 and automatically get a dried up raisin for a uterus. And if it is a struggle there's always options. I'm considering fostering when I'm like 45 (if I'm doing okay enough to care for a kid/teen)
Why is there a never ending stream of men that insist they know what is the cause of womens' happiness or misery? And why do they insist on trying to make policy based on that without consulting a single woman?
Because they endorse patriarchy openly. They dont just think it's 'ideal', they think it's a fundamentally necessary part of the human condition. An inherent natural balance that needs to be kept.
Dude posted this from his garage, where he's spent the entire weekend hiding from the chaos that is family thanksgiving. His wife is cleaning up all the leftover dishes and watching 3 kids. He will never see his situation for what it is. She took a lover several months ago. She'll be getting a second phone soon.
Just how "hidden" is this pain? Because I'm a few years past the 35 year single, childless woman mark and I have yet to find it. I feel pretty damn good, honestly. It's got to be SUPER well hidden. Like, body-of-Jimmy-Hoffa level hidden.
Women can be pretty bad about it, too. Especially older generations and in certain cultures. A mom pushing their daughter to 'find a good man to marry' is a picture I'm sure you've seen countless times in your life. But of course the intentions behind the push is very different to why men do it. Maybe still unhealthy in some sense, but not outright malicious in the desire to control and have women be dependent on you.
My EX declared independent money accounts in our marriage. Her earnings are hers after house bills. She put herself in debt and asked for help. I paid of her credit card and her bounced checks. Early 1980's. Had her start a budget since we needed 2 earners to pay the bills. Left me saying I didn't make enough money. She really was a big spender.
The "find a good man" goes back to when women had nothing without a man (some cultures still very true) and "good" was because you had to have a man so if you did not find a good one you had to settle for shit.
It was to help and protect their daughters that they pushed that.
Some women push it because they are not happy and fulfilled and want to make sure every other women is the same as them.
I am a man so this is just my observation and may be flawed.
This. It's an archaic concept dating back to times when women literally had nothing but their husbands and children. Their entire goal in life was to find a "good man" so they could from the comfort/protection of their father's house to their husband's house, and then spit out as many kids as possible for child labor and because infant/child mortality rate killed about of them before adulthood. Women couldn't have their own credit cards bank accounts in this country until what like 50 years ago.
When I was in the military there was a single mom in the squad I led that had a bumper sticker: vaccine your pets and spay and neuter your crotch goblins.
Yea fucking republicans ruining women's lives, good thing that there are so many democrats in power to oppose them and prevent their attempts at ruining people's lives https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/03/politics/joe-biden-draft-supreme-court-opinion/index.html You want to improve people's lives? start removing anyone who takes money from billionaires from power.
Yes, I've posted this in every goddamn reply. Yes, I'm sure it's getting on some people's nerves, and for that I'm sorry. Save it if you want, and maybe consider posting this anytime you get the chance.
Oh no this dudes "big accomplishment" thus far has been advertising his book about illustrated animals cursing. You might've seen their persistent advertisements rise to the front page from time to time.
The Nazi side isn't a political agenda. It's a declaration of war against humanity. Wanting to take away voting rights for women, murder LGBT people, force teachers to harm kids and regurgitate disinformation, institute a dictatorship on day one, deport legal immigrants, remove citizenship from people who got it legally, etc., none of that is a political agenda. Just like I can't burn your house down and claim we are having a civil debate, Republicans can't be Nazis and claim to do politics.
There are a lot of people that have no idea how to navigate parasocial relations, and are wholly unprotected from the reality that is the cesspool of social media. The idea that the people they're surrounded by are spouting nonsense is ludicrous to people that barely understand TV - how would that be allowed, there are people watching this stuff, y'know! ...and then all the media deregulation isn't helping. It's no wonder we're getting another racist populist movement worldwide...
10% of the country makes shit up to justify the vote they already chose, then picks a lie and screams about it for four years, trying to manufacture evidence for it on the way. In this case, "shit is expensive and the Democrats are why". To get it through the heads you need to reach you need to start this January for 2028, and this is what empowers the liars: with a lie for your standard, you can keep on the same message regardless of the truth.
I mean, it's never been remotely as bad as it is now. Republicans have been shit for a long time, but Trump has truly broken this country, helped by the ubiquity of social media and people's complete lack of media literacy and critical thinking to handle it responsibly.
Their actual strategy is stacking courts, economists, educators, speakers, and lawmakers with deeply right-leaning corrupt individuals who subvert our cultural left-leaning policy preferences. They've been doing it for decades and they nearly have a complete victory. The name-calling and lies are a function of the larger strategy, one that the left should leave behind while we copy the rest.
Just got into this exact conversation with a conservative on here last night.
"Inflation is high!" It's 2.6%. "Gas prices are high because of Biden!" It's $3, down from $7 at the height of Trump's OPEC deal. "Wages are stagnant!" They've outperformed inflation, and income inequality fell under Biden. "The border is open!" Trump doubled border encounters pre-COVID19, Biden's are currently lower than in 2019.
"Okay, but Trump still won, so people know what's *really* going on."
Which is why I hate when people complain about Democrat messaging or that they need to 'go low' like Republicans. Like no, if Dems just started pushing bullshit in order to sway low information, emotional voters, they're simply gonna look terrible to the huge majority of their loyal voterbase. And it'll prove all the 'both sides are the same' types right, which will only encourage even more apathy. I dont know how to fix the US, but Dems copying Republican strategy aint it.
I don’t think that’s what people mean when they say go low, at least not what I think. I think dems need to name and shame. Fight back. Stop being polite and start reminding society that it’s objectively *wrong* to think the way republicans do. But not that they need to make things up to do that.
Yeah. Instead, leaning into the "liberal bias" that is clearly held by the media, institutions of higher learning, etc. is a better strategy. "Hey you are trying to cancel me, the left controls the media vlah vlah vlah woke mind virus" yes exactly, as it should be. Vote people in place who will overtly push a left leaning agenda, in all levels of education, economics, medicine, and government. That is the actual decades-long Republican strategy that is working and we need to copy it.
That "liberal bias" has mostly been taken care of in the last few years by large media conglomerates (headed by right-wing interests) buying up all local newspaper, radio and television channels. /gallery/jB8clq4
Yet another example of how the Republican strategy is winning with more insidious techniques than mudslinging. If liberals want to better represent the population which, while electing Trump again, is still voting for left-leaning policies, they need to actually cater to folks on the left and abandon their current strategy of reaching across the aisle while Republicans move the goalpost further and further right
