Sadly, having a pet on a cruising boat makes it harder to go from country to country. There are quarantine procedures that need to be followed. Can't even take fruits from one country to another due to the possibility the seeds would grow a plant that could be invasive.
Its all fun and games until the no one sees the salty sea cat fall off the boat and drown. My friend lived on a sailboat with three cats. Now she lives on a sailboat with two cats.

If there is any other species that is as used to the seafaring life as humans are, it would be cats. They've been at home on ships since the ancient Egyptians sailed to modern day Lebanon, Somalia, and the Aegean Islands.

3/10. Not enough cat, too much not cat.

My cat would be wearing a life vest with water activated alarm, lights and gps. Ain’t no way I’m letting a man overboard

It was believed that a cat with extra toes was better suited on a boat. The extra toes and claws would enable the cat to hold onto the boat better.
njessup1992
I would say rats.
FiftyShadesOfArugula
Touché. That's why we needed the ship cats after all. I suppose that means the rats came first
