CMYK coasters
Physics and psychophysics of four color printing demonstrated with acrylic slides that assemble to reveal Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring". Cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (key) comprise the elements of the subtractive color model used in most color printing. -PhysicsFun

NekoMiko06
Didn't look at the description and was really irate at first, like "THAT'S NOT CMYK, THAT'S GREYSCALE" Then the yellow coaster was added.

This is basically how printers work.

WHEEEitstheUpvoteFairy
Same principle is used for screenprinting shirts. image is split into the 4 colors and then each color gets printed over each other.

My first job was in an offset printing shop where we still had to use film negatives to create CMYK color plates for the printing press.
usernamerelevantsoon
offset lithography?
TheBentPianist
Digital printer here for going on a decade. Currently running Xerox iGen 5's. Getting closer to offset quality every year.

So more BYMC than CYMK?
Klockwerk13
The "K" in cmyk is "key", referring to black.

I think you mean... the YMCK
BahamutBBob
What does the K stand for? I can guess the others.
tooomanysteves
Google "why does K equal black"
Semlohwerd
K is for black. Technically Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow added can make most colors, but in ink pigments you need a darkener for image quality.
cameraman502
key. It was the term used in early color cinema where the basic b/w image (usually from green) then had layers of colors like above.
Debug200
It says "black (key)" in the description, so Key.
ElHuhn
Key as wikipedia told me

DoubleXchromosome
I knew my associate in graphics/printing would come in handy,K stands for key in the four color process of CMYK. Go on ask about spot colors
Forclaz
OK. What theses spot color make them special?
DoubleXchromosome
A pure or mixed ink that only has one run on press example PMS colors or standardized formula ink mix like Pepsi blue or Colgate red
MNItalian
Like 325 blue or 486 red. Watch paint get made at your local hardware store. Same principle on a big printing press for a specific color.
DoubleXchromosome
That's a good example I'll put it in my pocket for future use
