Pure definition of the term "Freightshaker"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jesus Christ. Unless the guy killed someone or is trying to kill someone, stop chasing him. You got his plate. You'll get him eventually.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh damn I was certain this was going to be a Swift driver.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Alright, who volunteers to try a pit maneuver?

With enough meth you can think all things are possible.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@op of course he's from. .. CENTRAL Florida. 😂That's like 20 minutes north of me.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Of course, he was from Florida. Of course, they found controlled substances and ammo in the cab. Of course, his name was Lebowski!

How do police stop semi trucks, anyway? Wouldn't the truck just be able to ram their cars out of the way?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Follow it by copter and wait for it to run out of gas?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

bulldozers bigger than these. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOb2BqiGZGA

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Spike strips, or if they are getting crazy and hitting cars the police might open fire. Only someone fucking crazy is going to try to run in an semi. You can't outrun a two way radio, and you can't hide a truck that big.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are designed to try and deflect wind to gain what little gas mileage bonus they can, not stop cars. Also, depending on who owns that truck, it may be governed down to 80, 70, or 65 miles an hour. The police could literally just follow along behind it, it's not like it could ever accelerate away or outrun them.

Ramming anything still risks disabling your own vehicle either because debris gets trapped under or it defeats your own crumple zone and impacts your engine. It’s a trick, not a tank. That said, spike strips still work to remove tires and fuck up the axle and drive shaft to disable it.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

truck** not trick.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 things. 1, why is this not set to East Bound and Down. And 2, where is his trans am running interference?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Smokey and the Bandit /gallery/6u0UdcC

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did they damage it somehow? Why's it cruising along all dancy-like?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

you can see its got a traffic cone or something stuck under the front bumber

If only a good guy with an 18 wheeler was there

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Wasn't this the opening scene from Beverly Hills Cop? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiuBWPKHTPA

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

three different perspectives, all filmed vertically. ugh

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

I don't really mind vertical filming, however I do have a problem with them not keeping th3 subject in focus :c

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If only there was some more effective way of capturing a scene that's mainly in the horizontal plane. Oh well, i can dream right?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't get it. Why is he alive? Oh wait......

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 20

Probably because a semi with a dead guy at the wheel would do incredible and likely fatal damage to anyone nearby, including the cops.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I can't white put my finger on why they wouldn't just shoot the driver.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 19

It just seems white I guess.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 16

Whats the deal with the shaking cab?

2 years ago | Likes 127 Dislikes 0

as eddie money sang, there's a whole lot of shaking going on /gallery/6u0UdcC

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The driver was super-pissed at all the people vertically filming a landscape action scene; his tantrum shakes the cab.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

At some point during the pursuit the 18 wheeler realized the jig was up and started shaking its head no as a form of protest. Unfortunately it was being controlled by the person inside so it had no choice but to continue on.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The driver is doing it on purpose. There's another gif going around of it on the freeway just wobbling in synch for the whole gif.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well...it is a freight shaker for a reason

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If this truck is a'rockin then don't bother knockin'.

2 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

The driver. You can see the wheels turning very slightly from this angle. /gallery/6u0UdcC

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The link has the reporter claiming a broken front axle.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The poor thing is scared to death :(

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Did one of the sheriffs throw some spike strips?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what I thought he did, but can't be sure from the video.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a Freightliner, they all do that over about 50 mph.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Freightshaker!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Known as a death wobble, I've never seen it in an 18-wheeler before. It's pretty easy to correct from, but requires that you reduce speed, and know what you're doing.

2 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 18

It definitely looks like they hit a curb or something and knocked it out of alignment.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On a skateboard that’s called speed wobbles. And it’s terrifying.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Can’t you also accelerate into it?

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

It is possible to accelerate through it but it's MUCH safer to alow down to stop it. It's possible the death wobble will get so bad it'll brake your axles or sheer the lug nuts off of your car or truck before you can fix it with speed. You have to have a whole lot of faith in your vehicles parts before you can do that and I for one, will never have that much faith in car parts no matter how much I love my truck

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

death wobble would be much, much higher frequency. I've hand to handle them on bicycle, motorcycles, and old farm trucks with manual steering.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I don’t think anything more than 3 wheels do that, but alright

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Except skateboards

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've had it happen to me in trucks

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Fair enough than I’ve definitely had it happen to me on motorcycles but never in my truck or car

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Death wobble only happens with certain types of suspensions, most commonly solid axles like those found on Jeeps and older pickups. New Jeep Wranglers actually have a steering damper to try to prevent and reduce the severity of death wobbles.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When you want to be a silly goose, you can crank the wheel back and forth rapidly and it'll do that. Never seen anyone do that in an 18 wheeler before though.

2 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 7

Looks like he won't be running for too long

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I do that often in my car. Dance with the music.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not the running from the cops part, though.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They said he was shaking the steering wheel. …and guess what they found in the cab? I guess the meth was so good he couldn’t keep still. Florida man strikes again!

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

too consistent even through corners to be induced by the driver. Pretty sure its just fucked up front alignment, maybe hooped a curb or somethuing

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I agree, it had to be something else. I’m a truck driver myself, but I’ve never experienced something like that. I was just mentioning what the report said, it was the reason they pulled him over in the first place.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At about 44-45 seconds in, you can see something stuck under the front bumper. I’m assuming that’s what’s causing it.

2 years ago | Likes 124 Dislikes 3

You can see the cop throw something under it right before it gets onto the entrance ramp, i had just assumed it was spike strips and it didn’t blow out all the tires or something

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or just whiffed…

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That just looks like one of those plastic road drums. I's say they hit a curb at some point and knocked the alignment out.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The linked video says the chase started when other drivers reported the wobble

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Where does it say that? They reported wreck less driving when he almost hit someone head on

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

In the video that OP linked, it's at 3:25: "the chase began after multiple drivers reported the front cabin wobbling"

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

yep, that's way more likely than the "silly goose" theory :-D

2 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

I had a coworker at a trucking company who was heading back from Montreal when a goose crashed through his windshield. Somehow the goose was okay, and apparently it spent a few minutes sitting on the floor of the truck, staring down the driver and his little dog before eventually leaving through the open passenger door. Didn't even offer to pay for the windshield.
