I copied my boss's "best regards" years ago and still use that. This is not the first time I've seen shade thrown its way. What are we supposed to be using? I feel like more people want to have their email to be more like chatting and just drop the salutations and signatures. I definitely feel the giant billboard signatures are hideous & archaic, but also feel like my not at least putting "Hi Steve," is too, something, I don't know. (Not even touching on e-mailing Japanese or Korean co-workers.)

Yeah in the US that's the federal base wage for tipped positions, most commonly seen in foodservice. In *theory*, your boss is supposed to pay the difference between that and the 7,25/hr standard minimum wage if your tips didn't meet that level, but in practice? Get fucked. Some states have set higher minimum wages but the reduced 'tipped employee' wage is still very much a thing across the board, it's just reduced to a different level.

I think some places, like Seattle and NYC have instituted regular minimum wage with tips being a benefit/bonus on full minimum wage.
