How do you burn NaCl?
naytorin
With Mario Kart and a lighter.
ReedCallais
Fire
LukePerry
NaCl is not burning but its electrons are being excited by the flames and producing the colour. Its called flame fluorescence.
Fleaofpain
Dissolve it in methanol overnight, or dissolve it in water, soak wood in the water for a long time, then let the wood dry and light it up.
thegrimnar
Even now I assumed that was a 'soak logs in wood' joke...

I'd be curious as to how hot it burns... Is it less visible because it's not that hot of a flame? Does it work that way?
icanttype
i think it emits light, just not much visible light
Djohaal
If I recall my chemistry right, clean flame with little to no soot = not enough heated particles to emit light. Its all heat.
somnif
Just shy of 1,900C (about 3,400F). The color isn't really a temperature thing though, more a complex physics/chemistry thing.
Is that hot or cold compared to your average fire?
For comparison, gasoline burns at about 230C (just under 500F)

Methanol burns almost invisibly
It's a methanol fire at the pits. It's burns near invisibly, making it more terrifying.

Its more the stuff around him was on fire. He was just being burnt
CaptainSl00000000w
No, Rick Mears was on fire. Suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns on his face and respiratory damage.

I'm not quite following what you're asking
slapyamomma
He's probably wondering how it would look through an infrared camera
it's a different wavelength, so it'd probably be quite visible
