I’ve been saving to go from my 10 year old PS4 to a 5Pro since GTA6 was the only game I thought to be worth upgrading, and welcomed the delays as then I can also save and upgrade my 2015 3D HD tv to an OLED. But my estimated cost of all equipment and accessories has already gone up 30% since that game was actually announced
Buys game in 1979 for $50: "this is great!" Buys game in 1986 for $50: "this is great!" Buys game in 1996 for $50: "this is great!" Buys game in 2006 for $50: "this is makes sense!" Buys game in 2016 for $50: "this is expensive!" Buys game in 2026 for $50: "this is insanity!"
I'd have to buy a new desk, a new chair, a whole new expensive ass pc, upgrades all the damn time... Cheaper to get a console and not have to worry about buying anything but games for 10 years.
I've pretty much always used a PC.. but the costs to build a great one to keep up with new games' system requirements is getting pricier and pricier. Especially with all this AI bullshit using up all the good tech. So unless you're playing a TON of games, it's cheaper to use a gaming console IMO
PC's are also useful for more than dedicated gaming. While mine was built to play games it can also serve media for my household, support a bunch of my technical hobbies, and works as a proxy for remote work.

Indeed. It's not that things are expensive in many cases, it's that we've been squeezed so much that no one but the rich have disposable income.

$50 in 1980 is $210 today, and there were games over $100 that were a couple squares on the screen. Lol

At this point there's no reason to buy a console. It's just a computer.

And sail the seas.
Einstein9073
You don't even need to. There are enough free and reasonably priced games that piracy is unnecessary
MightyIink
Games are much cheaper on PC, you save a lot more money in the long run, and no multiplayer subscription either.

Or you could play indie games while the new ones become less new (and on sale) and keep buying slightly outdated (but vastly cheaper) hardware...
