In response to this post http://imgur.com/gallery/zZOz7, people wanted to see some of the models I build at work.

Please be aware that no matter how nice of a camera, I cannot take good photos. The progressively get worse.

Most of what I do is special event builds (marketing events, social media, adding to our current displays, etc), but sometimes I do build for other purposes.

I personally prefer to build small to medium sized models.

Sometimes the models are very tedious to build, like this one. Divvy bike stands to put in our city display. We had to put the wheels on over 100 bikes.

This was a group project done the day after the Cubs won. Designed mostly by the super talented Travis Polad.

Currently our team consists of four model builders and one master model builder. Often we work together on displays due to time constraints, such as here - Cloud Cuckoo Land from the LEGO movie.

At the time of building, we were very limited on green pieces. I plan on redoing this one day.

An example of what we do to our city. We change out trees (over 100), add snow, and various models to make the city look more alive.

Another group model done with our now Master Model Builder, Greg Nuse.

I do occasionally help with large models. This guy was a big pirate I helped work on.

This wizard was one of the first models I worked on. Definitely a challenge at the time, but good practice.

Rick and Morty portal gun I made for last year's Secret Santa on Imgur.

It's a fantastic job and I love coming into work every day!

How much do you pay them to let you do this?

Omg these are all amazing. Im so insanely jealous of your collection and talent!

What was job interview like? Did they just give you a bag of pieces and tell you to be creative or did you show them childhood work?

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I actually did have a building aspect of my interview! I had to recreate a model I saw for about 30 seconds, as well as do some other things

Is the last picture from the comic east of west ?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live in Batavia, but in Schaumburg all the time. Gone by a million times and never stopped in.

What batteries do they use? Asking for a friend

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are your fingertips perpetually sore?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They were when I first started, but after 3 years, I'm used to it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I built a cube once

Do some of the models you build go to Legoland Windsor because that wizard is familiar

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are some models that are at multiple locations. I'm sure the wizard is one of them.

+1 for Mr Bean and his car

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

HOW do you motivate yourself to build a bikestand for 40 bikes out of Lego

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You constantly remind yourself that you're getting paid to build!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well then money is the motivation. Which is fine. We all did weird stuff for money.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well shit I need to take a trip to Schaumburg.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Well this is cool

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So do you get instructions on how to build the things or do you freestyle?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All our own designs!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but do you have instructions on how to build them or so you just make them up on the spot? I'm really curious!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Love the Mr. Bean car!!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh. My. Head. How did you do those trees towards the bottom?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait wait...this is what you do for work?

'progressively get worse' is code for 'the drunker I get'

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I want this job, this os unfair!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

At first, I thought it was only one picture, and I was like, "Dude, that's called 'polaroid', not 'portfolio'."

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The irony is that the Polaroid is the best photo OP took.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I too live in Illinois, what legoland do you work at?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The one's in Schaumburg

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*one

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dope I have been there. How do you become a builder for Lego?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're not just the type of rich guy I like and want to be friends with but you're skilled enough to get laid all night every night. Niiiice

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hate to break it to you, but I'm not rich and I am a single cat owner.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm a single dog owner we should get together and see if we can make catdog

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm sorry. What? This is your job?

How did you get hired?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Shiiit. I live in Chicago, love the city display and the World Series trophy. Gotta go there now. On my list OP!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not a job. That's living as a kid. What are requirements?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

What sort of requirements are needed for such a job?

8 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Probably a diploma or master of arts. Heard about ways with a Master-degree in media- and communication design + products development/design

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

From what I believe they usually like some kind of creative background. In the interview you're given bricks and timed to build something.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Cool as fuck, but so much pressure to not be a complete shitter.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes we are waiting to see if we qualify pls answer

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

resume.doc

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I am qualified, you see, I know what Lego is all about. *clacks two thin bricks together*

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Whenever you have a bad day at work, just remember that you are living the dream life of 7 year olds everywhere. No pressure.

8 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 0

And 30 year olds!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't think you can have a bad day at work here. Just doesn't work like that

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Unless you step on a brick.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That is an acceptable risk. At least you die surrounded by Lego.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless you step on a brick and fall into the wall of bricks and they all land under you before you hit the ground and then choke on one. :(

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

how would you retrieve the body? anyone going in there would surely step on another lego and bam! 2 dead people.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not just 7 year olds...

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Really it's ages 4-99

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And 24....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

39-year-olds, too.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also 25 year-Olds. Lego is a timeless, ageless toy.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same here. I once bought Legos for our daughter. Or so I thought. I went to work come back and find a castle. Praising my daughter she 1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Says no mommy not me. Daddy did it. Tell daddy he did a fantastic job. She says this in her 3 Yreka old voice and points to daddy :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice. AND nice that it's something they can bond over - at only 3, it's probably best she have a mentor show her the ropes. Just... don't
