A museum bought my drawing!

Apr 9, 2025 3:24 PM

Almost a year ago I shared a post about my cash register drawing that ended up going viral here and even attracting the attention of @ElbowDeepInAHorse

A bunch of you lovely people reached out to inquire about the original and I'm beyond humbled that The Fort Wayne museum has just purchased my drawing!

I'm so excited to celebrate the incredible design of this beautiful object and to bring more attention to the makers of the National Cash Register and their incredible artistry!

Thank you so much for looking!

I have other finished drawings and timelapse you can see at www.instagram.com/e.copeland

that's awesome!

Very, very beautiful, congratulations.
How long does it take for such a drawing?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For this size it's about 2 to 3 months of drawing time

Back When things were designed with both beauty and function in mind.

We honestly don't make anything like this anymore. The object is breathtaking to interact with and the fact that this was an everyday object is wild to me.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How do you avoid smudging the heck out things when you're drawing? Do your hands basically end up absolutely black?

1 year ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I constantly have to wash my hands. I draw standing up to ensure that the charcoal dust falls to the ground. You can't remove charcoal very well so you have to be very careful while working with the medium.

1 year ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Thin plastic/silicone gloves are a no go? I'm just thinking this must fuck up your skin if you wash often

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not just that the technique is hard, but doing it photorealistic, is something else... I say, MAGIC!

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Beautiful. The drawing is quite good too

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@OP: Painstakingly incredible, I love the medium you used as it allows for photorealism that can still be recognised as a hand-drawn piece, congrats for now your artwork is officially, museum-level quality!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate these kind words <3
