What a sad realization that relatively young men cant run mire than a couple of yards. obviously they arent young, but they are nowhere dead

We did this at a party. One tripped and busted out their two front teeth at 10pm. We used flashlights to find their teeth for the dentist.

nothing an older body likes more than explosive, sudden exercise with no warning
OtziOzbjorn
As an owner of an older body, age is not the problem here.
tanebot
Ah but what about explosive, sudden exercise with no warning after a huge meal and quite a lot of alcohol?
IAmAngry
Specially when it is American older body... full of "healthy" diet and lifestyle

Was told we had about 5 minutes to try to catch a connecting flight the other night. (see username) 4 hours of sitting in an airport, 1/
then a small airplane, followed by an all-out sprint. Only one young guy beat me there. We still missed the flight. I was wheezing for 2/
36 hours off an on. Lol. Measured it via Google later. 3590ft+/-. No cramping, though. So I've got THAT going for me. Which is nice.
RedOnDaHead
This happened to me a few months ago. Made it on the plane after sprinting, to then sit at the gate for an hour due to a delay.
Truly sucks!

Stretching has been pretty consistently shown to not make a difference. Warm downs are important, warm ups some evidence. Not stretching

As the oldest guy in my first unit, everybody teased me about how much I stretched. My body hasn't betrayed me yet though.
dwilson0725
In all seriousness, stretching cold muscles is not as ideal. A short warm up, then stretching before going harder.
Howlatthemoons
Yeah this. Dynamic stretching is more beneficial than static stretching. Do lunges, hip gates, squats and high steps. Good to go.
Vanguard308
I feel like it Depends on the sport. Some sports or positions benefit more from a pure static stretch than dynamic stretch.
Yeah I guess my comment didn't specify that at all but that's the case for running.
Don't stretch at all. Every well structured study has shown some evidence for warm ups and zero for stretching
More info? I've heard this before from an athlete / sports coach, but all of the measures he used were about strength or endurance, /
not injury rates or flexibility (which are kind of the point of stretching, I thought?)
For preventing injury: warm downs have good evidence, warm ups have some evidence, stretching has no or conflicting evidence.
And stretching before running is not ideal. Jog a little first to warm up. Stretch after.
SnarkyJester
Me and I'm only going to be 47 next month.

Could also be low potassium, dehydration, or a mix of things, too.

I mean, if you never use your legs....also you need potassium and magnesium. You know Electrolytes! IT'S WHAT PLANTS CRAVE
I'm on my legs all day at work. Granted I'm not running but you'd think walking around in the pharmacy all day would count some. Have 1/2
My legs got worse when I was cashiering. But, that is just my experience. It might have been early signs of my osteoporosis.
Wondered about magnesium though... 2/2
If you are on your legs all day, an electrolyte pill or a banana might not be a bad idea. Also, stretching and a hot bath work wonders.
Epsom salt ftw! Also tiger balm is as good as the medicated patches the VA gave me for my musculoskeletal stuff. For bad day aftermath.
Thanks.
